Moderator change?

Postby The Sleeping Giant » Tue Jun 07, 2011 6:25 pm

I know this will go down like a lead balloon for some, but is it time for some mods too retire gracefully, and let some fresh blood do the job? Some have been doing the task for longer than 5 years now. Some would have become stale, out of touch, complacent, angry and bitter in that time and it would become increasingly difficult too remain impartial.

Not suggesting a full clean out. What I would like to suggest is maybe a time limit on moderator places, as I believe this would help keep this site fresh and unbiased. It is quite common for forums to rotate moderators on a regular basis. There are also forums I have used in the past where moderators don't post, but I'm not suggesting that here.

Look forward to other user's thoughts.

Interesting...

If they changed anything, it could be to hide who is a moderator...

Currently, where I am shown as a Coach, based on the number of posts I have, Mods show "moderator".

If we didn't know which posters were moderating the discussion, would you still feel the same way?

Wouldn't we still know who they are? Making the moderators "faceless" would make the problem worse I believe.

We have actually changed a few, for various reasons Punk Rooster, Brad, Jimmy, Zip Zap, Sam & Stan have all stepped down in the last fortnight. All of them played a significant role at the start of this site and we thank them for it.

We are currently discussing replacements.

Agree its worth chaning from time to time, this will usually happen naturally when Mods cant spend the time on here that the job requires/needs.

Having 'Moderator' under our names is fairly recent change.

We've never been faceless as anyone can see the full list of Moderators by clicking on 'Global Moderators' just under the list of who is online on the Index Page.

I am well aware of the where abouts of the Moderators list thanks JAS. I think you will find I was saying it would be a bad idea to make Moderators faceless.

Natural progression has meant mods have left and others have joined - almost the point there's no need to cycle through mods.

Unless of course, the mods you don't like are still there. Then it doesn't matter what we do :)

Good news on the fresh blood Dutchy. Did notice the list was shorter. Any thoughts on a time limit? Maybe some sort of Logan's Run crystal implanted in the hand?

The only Mods that have made contact with me over my time on here through PM is Dutchy, redandblack and Wedgie. Usually it's some type of rap across the knuckles, and I have taken it on board. Some mods are good value as posters on the boards like some users, others are not so good like some users. I'm sure if you changed all the moderators, the results would be the same. My suggestions aren't a personal attack on anyone person.

One particular Moderator is frequently belligerent and unreasonable and bullies and insults posters who have a different view to his own. He either needs reigning in or dismissed because IMHO you are defintely losing traffic on this site as a result of his arrogance.

Quite a bit less than 5000 and I'm not sure "getting the arse" is quite what occured.

Don't let the truth get in the way of a good conspiracy theory though.

I think the Moderators here have done a good job and have kept a reasonable balance.
It is a job I would be reluctant to take on because of the potential time involved.
I've had a minor brush with a couple, but all has been resolvable by PM.

There's change for the sake of change and then there's the challenge of finding people that have the time and willingness to commit to the role.

I am not sure a fixed rotation is a good thing if it means a diligent, committed moderator has to go and is replaced by someone who is less passionate about the role.
