The top of the crest are a copy of the Shankley gates.
The bird inside the crest is the Liver Bird, the symbol of Liverpool.
The flames on both sides of the crest are the eternal flame in honour of the Hillsborough disaster victims.

Stayed in a Hostel just out the back of the ground.
Canadian Paul Pescisolildo (can't spell) scored a left foot 'cracker' to equalise (eventally lost 1 - 3).
Great fun though - went to "The Tunnel" (where The Beatles played amoungst other 'Merseybeat' Groups in 60s) beforehand.
As for the emblem - Sunderland IMHO

It's the "Prince Rupert's Tower" which stands in the heart of Everton district.
The laurels, symbolise winners, and the Latin translation is "Nothing but the best is good enough".
