Pick the Champions Comp Season 2010/2011

Postby johntheclaret » Tue Jul 27, 2010 9:17 am

Thought we would have a nice, simple comp. All you have to do is pick the champions of all 4 divisions. there's no play off's, no close seconds, and once the season has started you are stuck with your choice.

There will 10 points for picking the champs in each division, 9 points if your pick comes 2nd, 8 points for 3rd, 7 points for 4th etc right down to 1 point for 10th. No points for any team you pick that fails to make the top 10. Same rules for each division.

I'll tally up the total points for each punter, across all 4 divisions and the winner will get a mystery prize.

I've edited Wedgies sticky at the top of the Soccer board so you can easily find all the comps

Away you go

EPL Chelsea
I can't see United gaining the title although they are likely to be the only serious contenders. Arsenal are still too light weight, Liverpool will improve under Hodgson but they were a long way off the pace and have too much to make up. City, well what can you say except I think they have too many there for the wrong reasons. Implosion around January.

CCC Burnley.
Forget any feelings of misguided loyalty, the clarets will be the real deal this year. Hull and pompey are debt ridden and won't be back for a long time. Laws has spent well in the summer and we are club with money, security and hopefully the core of players who showed they were too good for the CCC last time around. Leicester, Leeds and nottm Forest will be the big threats, but whilst Leeds are a "big club" we have to remember that they are coming up from a lower league and will need time to adjust. and of course they have lost their talisman in Beckford on a free to Everton

Lg 1 Southampton
Only just missed out last year despite a 10 point deduction and the shock of relegation. Have stabilised and will be a real threat this year. look out for Charlton who should be there or thereabouts.

Lg 2 Bradford City
If only because Peter Taylor is their manager. Terriffic strategist and man manager, and knows how to get the best out of any side. They've made a couple of decent signings and will be a strong out fit.

But hey, what would I know

I'm not sure about Leeds this season. We've got a few injury worries at the moment. Kisnorbo will be out until January, Snodgrass is out for a while and our new signing Paynter is out too. We did manage to beat Wolves in a pre season friendly 3-1 on the weekend though. I'm sure Simon Grayson will get some good loan signings from the PremierLeague for cover. I predict we will finish mid table.

What about Middlesboro jtc? Surely they'd be in the mix to win the league.
