Pre-Season Friendlies 2010/11

Postby johntheclaret » Sun Jul 11, 2010 1:36 am

Here's th place for all of those pointless games. And to kick it off here is the 1st result that also has an Aussie connection

Sydney FC 0 Everton 1

VICTOR ANICHEBE was on target as Everton beat Sydney FC in their first pre-season game in Australia.
The striker scored a minute into the second half, receiving a pass from Leighton Baines and turning well before shooting into the roof of the net.

Aussie ace Tim Cahill received a strong reception from the 40,000 strong crowd inside the ANZ Stadium when he came on at half-time.

Everton boss David Moyes was pleased with his side's showing. He said: "I thought we played well tonight against a decent side. They are a bit ahead of us in their pre-season but the players played well. The way we passed it looked a lot like the way we were playing towards the end of last season. We controlled most of the game but they were a bit of a threat. They weren't a poor team by any means, I actually think they were one of the better teams we have played in pre-season."

Yeah, I think he is a good catch.

Eagles and Elliot looked pretty sharpe too.

We did bring on 9 subs at half time though, but Wallace played for the full game

Bournemouth 0 Tottenham 4
Kidd'minster 0 West Brom 3
Sturm Graz 0 Blackburn 0
Sydney FC 0 Everton 1
Ayr 1 Motherwell 2
Dunfermline 0 Hibs 4

Bournemouth 0 Tottenham 4

Robbie Keane made his Tottenham return but it was fellow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko who shone in the friendly win at Bournemouth.
Keane, who finished last season on loan at Celtic, played the first 45 minutes but could not get on the scoresheet, with strike partner Jonathan Obika taking advantage of a defensive error to open the scoring after 36 minutes before two second-half goals in a little over a minute made life more comfortable for the Barclays Premier League side.
Roman Pavlyuchenko scored in the 61st minute after good work from Andros Townsend, then the same pair combined a minute later to set up Danny Rose for the third.
Spurs hit the woodwork twice through Adel Taarabt and Townsend, before Pavlyuchenko grabbed his second 16 minutes from time after latching onto a long ball from Younes Kaboul.
The only disappointment for Spurs was the sight of David Bentley limping off in the first half.

Kidderminster 0 West Brom 3

Premier League new-boys West Brom opened their pre-season friendly campaign with a 3-0 win over Kidderminster.
Abdoulaye Meite scored his first goal for the club as Roberto di Matteo's men cruised to victory at Aggborough.
Ishmael Miller netted the opener on 11 minutes, Roman Bednar doubled the lead on 68 and Meite got in on the act 17 minutes from time.
The Baggies fielded different sides in each half.

Sturm Graz 0 Blackburn 0

Blackburn played out a goalless draw with Sturm Graz in their opening pre-season friendly.
On a hot day at the UPC Arena, there were few chances for either side, but it was the Austrians who had the better of the play, especially in the first half.
Paul Robinson pulled off a fine save from Imre Szabics, though Maceo Rigters did go close with an overhead kick at the other end.

Mike Tyson made an appearance at the Spammers v Posh friendly:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/westham/7891717/Mike-Tyson-makes-appearance-during-West-Ham-friendly-against-Peterborough.html

Image

Tyson is in the UK doing a series of talks on his life and career and making a television show for American television.

And the 44-year-old former undisputed heavyweight champion, looking trim in a blue strip with ‘Tyson 1’ embossed on the back of the shirt, failed to inspire the Peterborough, who went down 2-1 to West Ham.

Tyson, who was in Peterborough to appear at a special 'Evening With Mike Tyson' on Thursday, came on the pitch at half-time and spoke to the crowd.

And the former heavyweight world champion did not exactly endear himself to the Peterborough supporters, by admitting that he had not heard of their club before.

"I’ve never heard of Peterborough before but as soon as I heard it was West Ham I thought, we’ve got to really give it to them," Tyson said.

Well, if he doesn't like the spam, I guess he does have some class left

Bohemians 0 Wolves 3
Bournemouth 1 Fulham 1
Brisbane Roar 1 Everton 2
Carlisle 0 Newcastle 3
Crystal Palace 0 Chelsea 1
Darlington 0 Sunderland 1
Fleetwood 0 Blackburn 2

Barnet 0 Arsenal 4

Arsenal opened their pre-season campaign with a comfortable 4-0 win at npower League Two side Barnet.
Russian Andrey Arshavin put the Gunners ahead after just two minutes, with youngster Jay Simpson netting a first-half double and Samir Nasri - one of 11 second-half substitutes - wrapping things up with 15 minutes left.
Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia, who has seen his position as Arsenal number one come under question over the summer, was absent from the squad, despite having been named in the original 22-man party on Friday, along with striker Eduardo.
Lukasz Fabianski was between the posts, as new signing Laurent Koscielny lined up in defence, while fellow summer arrival Marouane Chamakh was on the bench.
England under-21 midfielder Jack Wilshere, who spent last season on loan at Bolton, was in central midfield, with Czech winger Thomas Rosicky captaining the side as Barcelona target Cesc Fabregas is still away on leave after helping Spain lift the World Cup.

Crystal Palace 0 Chelsea 1

Michael Essien marked his return from injury with a goal as Premier League champions Chelsea defeated Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park.
It was an eventful Saturday afternoon for the Ghanaian who has been sidelined with a knee problem since the turn of the year. The 27-year-old came close to opening the scoring but his shot hit the crossbar.
It looked like Essien suffered an injury towards the end of the first half but he emerged after the restart and scored the only goal of the game late on, curling a shot beyond Julian Speroni from the edge of the area.

Bohemians 0 Wolves 3

Wolves eased to a 3-0 victory over Bohemians in their opening pre-season friendly.
Mick McCarthy's men took the lead after just six minutes when Jody Craddock rose to head home a David Jones corner.
Wolves doubled their advantage shortly after the hour mark, striker Steven Fletcher firing home on his debut after good work from Andy Keogh and Matt Jarvis.
Substitute Geoffrey Mujangi Bia added a third late on when he cut in from the left before finishing coolly.

Bournemouth 1 Fulham 1

Managerless Fulham came away from Bournemouth with a frustrating draw in their second pre-season friendly since Roy Hodgson's departure.
Anton Robinson blasted the Cherries ahead with a well-timed volley before Bobby Zamora marked his first pre-season appearance with a first-half equaliser.

Darlington 0 Sunderland 1

A late goal from second-half substitute Bolo Zenden denied Darlington a draw as Sunderland secured a 1-0 victory at the Northern Echo Arena.
The Premier League side dominated possession early on and Darren Bent forced Sam Russell into a couple of saves before hitting the crossbar with another effort just before the break.
It looked like the Blue Square Bet Premier League club would hold on for a creditable goalless draw but Zenden broke the deadlock with seven minutes remaining.
