CCC, Play Off's 2009

Postby johntheclaret » Wed Apr 15, 2009 8:34 am

I know it's a bit early to start this, but I thought "what the heck", it is getting a bit tight up there now so why no?

Looking at the table, apart from Wolves who have opened a bit of a gap at the very top, ther is still plenty to play for.

So here are my predictions for the final run in

Wolves:

H QPR Win
A Barnsley Win
H Doncaster Win

By far the easiest run in on paper, expect them to collect 9 points and th title.

Birmingham:

A Watford Draw
H Preston Win
A Reading Loss

Tough final two games, with the final game away to Reading costing them an automatic spot, expect them to collect only 4 points.

Sheffield United:

A Burnley Win
H Swansea City Win
A Crystal Palace Win

Three straight wins, two that will go along way to deciding the play off places, will see the Blades home and dry, with the piste' da la'resistance' being Wanker Warnock having to suffer the ignamy of watching his former club beat his current club to win a place in the EPL. expect them to collect 9 points.

Cardiff City:

A Preston Draw
A Charlton Win
H Ipswich Win
A Sheff W Loss

A game that neither can afford to lose will see Cardiff draw at Preston before dishing up an automatic spot to Sheffield U. A fixture conjestion may well hold the sway away from Cardiff with a last game loss to the Owls. Expect them to collect 7 points

Reading:

A Derby C Loss
A Norwich Draw
H Birmingham Win

A last game home win over Brum will be too little too late. Readings form has been crap lately and that will continue as they drop points strugglers Norwich after being turned over by the Rams. Expect them to collect 4 points

Burnley:

H Sheff U Loss
A Soton Loss
H Bristol C Win

A devastating loss at the hands of old foes Sheff U, will be followed by an even more devastating loss at Soton who are fighting for their CCC survival. But at last it will come good as a home win against Bristol who have nothing to play for should be enough for a play off spot ? Expect them to collect 3 points.

Swansea City:

H Bristol C Win
A Sheff U Loss
H Blackpool Win

The defeat at Sheff U will be the decider for the Swans as they should take all thrfee points against both Bristol and Blackpool. Next year maybe ? Expect them to get 6 points.

Preston NE:

H Cardiff Draw
A Birminigham Loss
H QPR Win

A very, very tough run in for PNE, witht hem in a tense draw with Cardiff, and a loss to Birmingham will see the end of their challenge this year. Expect them to collect 4 points

so my shot at the final table is:

Wolves 92
Sheff U 85
--------------
Brum 81
Cardiff 80
Reading 74
Burnley 73
--------------
Swansea 71
Preston 69

As for the playoffs, Burnley can turnover both Reading and Brum, and personally, I would like to avoid Cardiff (big if's I know)

Burnley beat Brum
Reading beat Cardiff

Burnley v Reading at Wembley. Woohoo.

I know there are a lot of if in there, but IF we did, we would probably do a Derby.

Not that it would bother me too much. Just to be hosting Man U, Chavski, Arsenal, Liverpool and the rest would be sensational. A full house every home game, and of course 6 easy points agains tthose b4st4rd scum.

And don't forget the £40m+ and the parachute payments we would put in the bank ready for a more serious push in 2010/2011. ;)

Derby couldn't beat Arsenal, Chelski, Spurs, etc.

Would love to see a local grudge match against bastards at Turf Moor.

Well we are going into the last game of the season with everything to play for.

Here is the table (top 7)

Teams P GD PTS
1 Wolves 45 27 87 Already promoted as champions
2 Birmingham 45 16 80
-------------------------
3 SheffUtd 45 25 79
4 Reading 45 33 77
5 Cardiff 45 13 74
6 Burnley 45 8 73
-------------------------
7 Preston 45 11 71

And here are the fixtures

Sunday, 3 May 2009

Burnley v Bristol C.
C.Palace v Sheff.Utd
Preston v Q.P.R.
Reading v Birmingham
Sheff.Wed v Cardiff

So what if's:

If Birmingham win at Reading they are promoted.
If Reading beat Birmingham and Sheffield lose or draw and Palace............Reading are promoted.
If Reading beat Birmingham and Sheff Utd win at Palace............Sheff Utd are promoted
If Reading draw with Birmingham and Sheff Utd draw at Palace........Birmingham are promoted

and as for the play off's it's 2 out of Cardiff, Burnley and Preston.

If Preston lose or draw with QPR then Cardiff and Burnley are in no matter how they do but.....

If Preston beat QPR, and let's assume they will....

If Cardiff and Burnley both win................Cardiif and Burnley are in, Preston are out.
If Burnley draw or lose.........Cardiff and Preston are in, Burnley are out. (unless Cardiff lose by 5 or more goals, then Burnley are in and Cardiff are out)
If Burnley and Preston win, and Cardiff lose then Burnley and Preston are in, Cardiff are out.

Cardiff only need a draw to be in.
Burnley need to win to be in if Preston win.
Preston must win to have a chnace.

It could come down to GD as well with Cardiff's playoff place.

They have +2 on PNE and have scored 1 more goal so if PNE win 1-0 and Cardiff lose 1-2 then I'm pretty sure they will keep their spot, but if Cardiff don't score and lose by a goal with Preston winning then it is dead even on goals scored and goal difference?? Correct me if I'm wrong though. If it comes down to head to head then Cardiff are in deep trouble after that match a week or two ago.
