Interesting results in a few games last night. If United could manage to be in first place by Jan 1 then it would be a huge psychological edge considering their perceived problems so far this season.

Also Chelski need to cover for the loss of Essien, Drogba (their 2 most important players IMO) and Kalou for the African Cup of Nations in January.

After yesterday, United don't have a single centre back that isn't injured.

correct me if im wrong please but doesnt the rule state that when a penalty is being taken the keeper MUST stay on his line before the ball is kicked?? i.e. sorenson with the penalty save against wigan and like last weeks against us?? even the commentators stated in both saves of his that it should have been taken again?

Almost all keepers do this now to reduce the size of the target. It's NOT allowed, but the useless refs and more importantly, the USELESS linesmen refuse to penalise it.

Further to that, players taking a penalty must not stop and start their approach to the ball when taking a pen. But CR9 proved the effectiveness of doing this and with refs refusing to penalise it, many others are starting to do this also, including last night against sorrenson.

So I guess it could have been a case of 2 wrongs make a right?

Goal of the season was wrapped up last night by Wigan's Figueroa. Check this out:

What a piece of absolute brilliance. The awareness to take the kick quickly, keep it low, hit it hard and most of all to get it on target.

He could not have hit that any more perfectly.

Scroll up about 5 posts cosi ;)

But agreed - one of the best goals I've seen. Better than Beckhams effort against Southhampton all those years back IMO and dare I say - even better than David Bentley's effort against the scummers.

Probably the best goal ever. Can't believe we didn't win!

Did you see Rodellega's penalty? The keeper was about 2m off his line!! FFS!!!

EDIT: Just read the above discussion re: the penalty, but god, Sorensen took at least two steps off his line.

Yes he was off his line but the bloke Huth fouled to give away the penalty was offside as well I reckon.

The penalty was abysmal, it seems that footballers have lost the ability to score from the spot lately.

It just kind of dribbled at him didn't it? There's a lot more players trying to gently place it rather than blasting it.

Smash it, give the keeper no chance to even see it.

Oops should look a little further than my nose hey?

I think its deemed good enough to post twice anyways :) i loved it, so intentional and well taken, hats off to the guy!

Remember Robinsons against Watford a couple of seasons back? A free kick just outside his penalty area that bounced over the keepers head?? was good but unintentional!
