Being relegated is irrelevant cossi. The winners of the fa cup qualify for a Europa spot but as looks likely that Chelsea will qualify for the cl next year then win or lose Pompey will qualify for Europa
However as they are currently in administration it means they don't hold a licence to play in Europe and will apply to the league to grant a licence
Not sure what will happen if Pompey can't play but I suspect a Europa place will be offered to the 8th place club etc
Portsmouth's progression to the FA Cup final (where they will play Chelsea) would, under normal circumstances, have seen them take the spot afforded to the cup winners.
But the troubled south coast side are in administration and didn't apply for a Uefa licence because they were unable to fulfil the financial criteria required to make an application at that time. This would prevent them from entering the competition.
Portsmouth now plan to challenge their current situation.
"We will appeal. We follow a can-do approach," said Pompey administrator Andrew Andronikou.
"It will be an uphill struggle in terms of making the appeal but nonetheless we will try."
If Portsmouth are not able to compete in Europe, the place will revert to the seventh placed team in the Premier League.
so effectively Liverpool/Villa will still get a place in the Europa cup next year when they finish 7th...
honestly, it's probably better that way than having a relegated club in there...
not really Portsmouth have earnt the spot so they should qualify.
