Norwich 2 - 3 Watford

HORNETS STING CANARIES IN OPENER

Watford got their Football League campaign off to a winning start with a 3-2 victory against Norwich at Carrow Road.
John Eustace chested the ball down from a corner to put the Hornets in front and the impressive Danny Graham ran clear to slot in a second in the 24th minute .
The Canaries pulled a goal back through Andrew Crofts after a well-worked move, but Malky Mackay's men spurned a great chance to restore their two-goal advantage when Adrian Mariappa headed wide in front of an open goal.
Graham scored a second with a low, curling shot which beat the outstretched fingers of City keeper John Ruddy.
Michael Nelson pulled one back through a crowded area, but the home team could not find an equaliser.

Cardiff 1 Sheffield Utd 1

Cardiff had the majority of the shots and possession but still had to come from behind after Sheffield Utd were reduced to 10 men.

Round Up

Newly-promoted Millwall retained their position at the summit of the npower Championship by thumping Hull 4-0.
Steve Morison, a reported target for Tigers boss Nigel Pearson, opened his account early in the first half and Kevin Lisbie doubled the lead before the break.
Seven minutes into the second half Morison capitalised on some more poor defending and Liam Trotter added the fourth as the Tigers' travel sickness showed no sign of clearing up.

Neil Warnock returned to haunt former charges Sheffield United by leading his QPR side to a 3-0 victory at Bramall Lane which marked the end of Kevin Blackwell's reign as Blades manager.
The impressive Hogan Ephraim broke the deadlock in the 11th minute after smartly finishing a one-on-one, before then turning provider for Jamie Mackie to head home.
The result was out of doubt as early as the 23rd minute when keeper Steve Simonsen hauled down Adel Taarabt, who then stepped up to score the resulting penalty.

Swansea romped to a 4-0 victory over a poor Preston side thanks to three first-half goals in manager Brendan Rodgers' first home Championship game in charge.
The lively Stephen Dobbie opened the scoring with a well-taken finish in the 23rd minute.
Darren Pratley pounced from David Cotterill's corner to grab a second before Nathan Dyer then added a third before the break after a well-worked move.
It got no better for North End in the second half as Cotterill added a fourth from the penalty spot.

Chris Burke struck late on as Cardiff recorded their first league win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Derby.
The Glaswegian turned the ball home from close range with 12 minutes remaining after Peter Whittingham's cross caused confusion in the Derby defence.
Michael Chopra had earlier put Cardiff ahead after 15 minutes with a tidy 12-yard finish.
The lead lasted just 10 minutes as Tomasz Cywka poked home his first goal in English football to equalise for the Rams.

Clarke Carlisle's stoppage-time goal secured 10-man Burnley a 1-1 draw with Ipswich.
Burnley looked like they would be made to pay for playing the last 10 minutes a man light following David Edgar's red card when David Norris scored with four minutes remaining.
But Carlisle still found time to head home a corner and clinch Brian Laws' side a point.

Jimmy Kebe struck four minutes from time as Reading denied Portsmouth their first win of the season in a 1-1 draw at Fratton Park.
Teenage forward Nadir Ciftci looked to have given Pompey all three points in his first league start for the club but Mali winger Kebe got on the end of a Gylfi Sigurdsson cross to spoil the party.

Leicester and Middlesbrough secured their first Championship points of the season with an entertaining draw at the Walkers Stadium.

Grant Holt nodded home a dramatic header at the death to get Norwich's Championship campaign up and running with a 1-0 victory at Scun.thorpe.

Billy Sharp converted a last-minute penalty to complete a 1-1 draw for Doncaster against a Bristol City side that showed no ill effects from this week's shock resignation of Steve Coppell.
Rovers' club-record signing Sharp blasted home from the spot after Jamie McAllister's 89th-minute foul on Doncaster substitute James Coppinger.
It was a cruel blow for City, who had taken the lead early in the second half when Damion Stewart headed home McAllister's cross in Keith Millen's first game in charge as permanent manager.

Late goals from David Bell and Lukas Jutkiewicz saw Coventry battle back to salvage a point in a 2-2 draw at Watford.
The Sky Blues fell behind when Will Buckley headed home on the stroke of half-time, with John Eustace adding a second just before the hour mark.
However, Bell fired home from 25 yards in the 88th minute to reduce the deficit before Jutkiewicz levelled from the spot two minutes later.

Patrick McCarthy's own goal handed Barnsley their first points of the season as they held on for a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Oakwell.

Round Up

Craig Bellamy marked his return to Wales in style as he scored on his debut for hometown club Cardiff as they hammered Doncaster 4-0.
The 31-year-old striker, who this week joined the Bluebirds on loan from Manchester City, contributed the final goal for his new side with Jay Bothroyd claiming a double and Chris Burke also on target.

The win left the Welshmen in second place in the npower Championship table, two points behind leaders QPR, who were 2-0 winners over Scun.thorpe at Loftus Road.
First-half goals from Bradley Orr and Heidar Helguson maintained Rangers' perfect start to their league campaign.

Relegated Burnley are in hot pursuit after a 3-0 home victory over Leicester courtesy of strikes from Ross Wallace before the break and Chris Iwelumo and, from the penalty spot, Graham Alexander after it.

Coventry too extended their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win over Derby, although they had to wait until the final 10 minutes to claim all three points.
Lukas Jutkiewicz had fired the home side ahead from the penalty spot 12 minutes before the break, but Dean Moxey levelled seven minutes after the restart only for Ben Turner to win it when he headed in Lee Carsley's 80th-minute cross.

Leeds came out on top in the battle of the promoted sides as they came from behind to beat Millwall 3-1.
Richard Naylor's 15th-minute own goal gave the visitors the perfect start, but Lloyd Sam levelled after 32 minutes and substitute Davide Somma's late double proved decisive.

Fellow newcomers Norwich left it late to secure victory over Swansea as Ashley Williams' 87th-minute own goal and Simeon Jackson's injury-time effort clinched all three points after David Cotterill had seen his penalty saved by Canaries keeper John Ruddy.

Roy Keane's Ipswich had former Sunderland duo Grant Leadbitter and Carlos Edwards to thank for their 2-1 win at Crystal Palace, the former scoring from the spot six minutes after the break and the latter adding a second within five minutes to make Neil Danns' injury time consolation strike meaningless.

Bristol City and Barnsley shared six goals at Ashton Gate with Andy Gray's double for the Yorkshiremen only good enough to claim a point, while Rob Earnshaw's equaliser ensured Nottingham Forest left Reading with similar reward.

Portsmouth's miserable start to life in the second tier continued with a 1-0 defeat at Preston with Paul Hayes' 18th-minute effort doing the damage, and Hull were held to a 0- draw by Watford at the KC Stadium.

Get up!! The clarets seem to be determined to drag themselves back up to the top flight. Good signs early anyway, as some relegated teams can really struggle with the drop.

Come on you clarets!!

I was pretty happy with a 3-1 win against Milwall. We've still got 3 or 4 key first team players out at the moment. Hopefully we can get some more wins on the board and keep in the top half of the table. Our defence is pretty suspect though.. :?

Bellamy scored on debut in a 4-0 flogging of Donny Rovers, hopefully the first of many goals for him this season.

Made 2 others as well Marty. Bit of unrest about this signing particularly as Cardiff are in such dire straits but Bellamy is either going to be a fantastic signing or a disaster. His temperament will decide that outcome
