After the second game in Uzbek, if the score is:

An Adelaide win, or a draw, we win
An Uzbek 1-0 or 2-0 win, Adelaide wins on aggregate
An Uzbek 3-0 win, it's penalties to decide
An Uzbek 4-1 win, we win because away goals count double.

Basically, if we can just get a single goal somehow, we would just about be home...

you got it

they also advertised that if we make the final we have the last leg of it at home, how ****ing huge would that be!!!

Isn't the final just one leg as per Euro champions league final??

Nope, the final is played over 2 legs on November 5 and November 12. If we make it the 2nd leg will be played here in Adelaide.

How effin huge would that be!!!!!!

The question is,where would/will they play it?

Footy Park maybe, crowd of 35,000+ or Adelaide Oval and only get 30,000? I think they would go to Footy Park myself as they (AUFC) will be hoping for 35,000 or more to attend.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

I can understand the desire to shift the venue to cater for a larger crowd, BUT surely winning the game would bethe highest priority, so you'd want to play it where the Adelaide biys are familiar, otherwise you'd almost be giving up "home field" advantage?

I agree with that. Obviously the bigger crowd the better (although it would purely be for the coin), but playing at Hindmarsh would surely be the best thing in terms of winning. There's nothing like having the crowd close to the pitch.

Haven't Adelaide already come out and said they don't want to move away from Hindmarsh for any future games?

I think that we play Sydney at Adelaide Oval again later this year.

At the moment I think that we are losing money when we are playing the ACL games at home. It's what I heard.

According to Dom Rinaldo, all ACL costs to date have been met by Nick Bianco putting his hand in his own pocket.
Runner up in the ACL final gets $400k, winners get $600k. No prizemoney for minor placings.
I'd say costs to date would probably match the runner up purse without too much trouble.

Their success is a nice dilemma to have though - by taking the game to a bigger live audience there is a greater chance to sell more merchandise and bring in more $$$ through ticket sales and memberships. But their best chance of success is to stay at Hindmarsh. I tend to think that if they move the game then Adelaide Oval that will be a better option - location for one and secondly, a packed house is better than some empty seats and for the sake of an extra 5,000 people at Footy Park they can incorporate that in a higher priced ticket at Adelaide Oval. Also, fans are much closer to the action at Adelaide Oval.

We can debate this forever but I think Nick Bianco has earned the right to make the decisions based on his financial commitments to date. After all, the Reds are owned by him and shared with the people!

I found it quite amusing watching Fox last night and hearing Andy Harper saying the SA govt MUST build a new football stadium that holds 40000 to be Adelaide's new base to truly realise footballs' potential in this state.
We only get more than 10,000 to a game if its AFC or we when are playing Melbourne FFS! Imagine the atmosphere at an A-League game against say maybe Perth Glory with 6-7000 fans in a 40,000 capacity stadium, it would be a joke.

I agree - plus if we do make it we are playign a Japanese team.
The Japanese do travel and have a huge fan base here.
You'd think a larger stadium would mean more of the opposition fans can get in.
Further diluting the home ground advantage.

I found all of that very interesting too.

It's a dilemma.

If they wanted to expand they should just do what they did with the Olympics with the extra seating but make it a permanent thing- just fill in those gaps on each corner of the stadium. This would give you an extra 5-7000 seats(just a guess, someone may actually know what the dif would be) and I can't see too many games attracting over 20,000 fans within the next 10 yrs.

I dont use the term often, but the Reds were HEROES last night! I was about 5 metres behind the goals at the scoring end and it was awesome, the crowd was in fine voice (still too many Generals and not enough soldiers in the chanting stakes tho) and the boys put on a great show. Very impressed with our new lads Jamieson, Reid, and Mullen.

10 years is a long time to predict, and soccer has come a long way in Oz in the last 3 years, I can honestly see the sport reaching unprecedented levels in this country as it's the biggest global sport.

Whether that takes 5, 10, 25 years etc is another matter, but I think it will grow significantly throughout the country from where it is today.

I was actually wondering where they were.
We hadn't seen Rann on tv much of late..
I figured if he was in town he'd want to be seen there.
I'm sure Media Monitors will be passing the reference on to the State Government and Mike's media advisor will be right on to it...

As for Kate Ellis, imagine telling Harper she had spent lots of time in Adelaide recently, attending the grand final of a 'second string' Australian rules competition ;)

Great game last night. I was also at the scoring end near all of the cheer squad. It was a great atmosphere. Rivaldo was just a joke. Diving all over the place. Robert Newberry would be proud of his efforts. Adelaide came to life after the first goal, before that they werent creating many chances. Hopefully they get through to the final. Go U Reds!!!

In his long and illustuious career i dont think Rivaldo has ever had to contend with the "RIVALDO'S A W@NKER" chant that rolled around Hindmarsh last night!!
