Congrats Adelaide United, an amazing effort from where they were after 8 games. I cannot think of any club from any top level sport in the country that has achieved ultimate success from such a position. Well done.

My wife and myself love our sport, and while I've been to a few A League games, I've always been an Aussie Rules supporter due mainly because that is what our parents and broader family follow.

Sunday's game would rank up with one of my favourite sporting events I've been to. The atmosphere was electric, and the game itself exceptional. That free kick from Isaias was top shelf and Sanchez's late sealer were unforgettable moments now entrenched in my memory.

The grandparents kindly baby sat our little ins and we'd made a weekend of it by staying at a hotel in the city. I must say the many Wanderers fans we met were all true ambassadors for their club and it is always unfortunate when the actions of a few are unfairly reflected as the majority. That being said lighting flares is just plain stupid and dangerous and I'm sure the AO will be passing on their surveillance tapes to the FFA.

So should AFL be worried? Of course, bring a quality product like that and we'll be back every week and so will the 50k other people. Rule changes, too many uncompetitive teams and a completely uneven draw has seen me increasingly lose interest in AFL and I can assure you I am not alone.

And let us not forget that the A league GF is not locked into Melbourne or Sydney like AFL and league. As someone living outside these cities it is just amazing to have it played in our 'backyard' and in doing so is actually winning over more support for the code by being truly national.

So congrats to the Reds, you've converted me...

I've been to a number of great sporting events, from SANFL grand finals (winning and losing), seen my favorite all time golfer, Greg Norman,at the SA Open and chatted with him as a 13-14 year old... Been to A League games in Sydney and Canberra, have been to Bradford City games, seen Carlton in finals games...

but nothing compares to the experience of being at the game yesterday...

It was magical, the atmosphere, game, location, noise, it was just immense...

Have been a season ticket holder since season 3 and unfortunately wasn't able to get the family tickets this year so to get to see the GF in Adelaide was just beautiful.

Sitting in the front row of the 5th level, directly behind the Southern goals was an amazing view... looking over the Red Army... best day at a sporting event ever....

Personally the only thing that i reckon that could out do it is being at an FA Cup final with Bradford City playing, or being at the game where Bradford City get promotion back to the PL. :)

It's not generally AUFC fans portraying themselves as innocents. It's the media banging on about WSW are 'evil'.

I didn't foresee the advanced progress of Kamau, thought he was a year away from producing what he has this year. No coincidence that when Mauk replaced Jeggo our form took a dramatic upwards turn.
Will stand by my thoughts on recruiting, Babalj was an ordinary pick up and Dugandzic was terrible.
Even through my criticism I still attended week in week out, missed only 3 home games and went to 6 away games also so not sure if that means being "back on board". If only more people were members and not bandwagoners we would be in a far better position financially to keep this squad intact

Just describing what I witnessed after all.

My cousin drove over with his family from WS. He has a 12 yo girl and 13 yo boy and wife who go to all the home games. Hadn't seen him in over 10 years and have only been to 2 United games before so took up his offer of sitting with him in the RBB. We were not far from the fence that separates them from the members stands. Went to the Queens Head for a drink before the game and marched with them from outside the Cathedral through to the Bob Quinn gates.

The atmosphere they created was brilliant I thought. The singing got louder when United kicked the first goal. I did a quiet fist pump to myself, not wanting to reveal myself seeing I was stuck on that side of the fence! My Dad and sister came too. I admit I was nervous in the week leading up, but they were harmless and fun. Quite a few kids and all were friendly enough at the pub. They were passionate and loyal. Much like the old end to enders at Centrals.

The two intruders on the pitch were actually Adelaide United fans. They were feral as they got escorted up the race near where I was. The seats were broken from Wanderers fans standing and dancing on them. That was not needed I thought, but wasn't like it was deliberately ransacking the place. There were a few who answered back aggressively to the taunting from the AU supporters on the other side of the fence. I left straight after the final
whistle, but Dad stayed with my cousin and was most offended when they turned their back when AU got presented with the trophies.

All pretty harmless though and it made for a sensational atmosphere. I felt lucky to experience what it must be like at a big time soccer game in my home town. The game itself was highly entertaining as well. A great day out.

We started winning towards the end of November. Jeggo left in the middle of January didn't he? He was still there for at least 7 games after the turnaround. Very harsh on Babajl was injured in pre-season and then cops a serious knee injury.

Yes we won a few games whilst Jeggo was here but thought we really stepped up once Mauk came in. Mauk just clicked instantly with the team and was a real catalyst for our finals push.

I probably walked within meters of you Aerie! The Queen's Head crowd seemed normal enough, as I said. A bit of singing and shouting, which would be expected for that situation.
You make some good points and I am glad to hear that you were able to stand safely amongst the mob I witnessed. The two guys that got thrown out contributed to the opinion I had formed, turns out they were AU fans so perhaps the severity of my judgment was premature. There was still a lot happening there, and I think the cops were correct to stay out of it. My original opinion was based on what I observed from my position, which was perhaps 30-50 meters from the fence that separated the two crowds, whereas you were amongst them and actually experienced it.
Thanks for the perspective.

Not sure the price on the double, but when bottom after 7-8 games they were only $26 to win the league.

I too think Jeggo was ordinary.
The player who seems to be forgotten is Jordan Elsey. Pretty sure he never started again after being suspended for too many yellows in the second half of the season. This kid can play. United re-signed him up mid year when interest was being shown by at least 3-4 other A League clubs & overseas clubs also.
His passing is excellent, he gets to the right spot time & time again and he's not worried about going in hard - which makes opposition players think twice. It's a true reflection on how balanced United were, that Elsey only got limited minutes when he came back.

If our "ordinary" players win young player of the year and gets sold overseas then we are doing ok.

But I do agree that mauk was awesome.

Jeggo hasn't played any first team for his Austrian club. He improved in the last year or so but he was still not much more than ordinary. Any fee we got for him was a good deal.

Agree with the above re Elsey and our depth. Next season he'll feature a bit more, I expect.
