2012 Hogg Preview

Hogg Champions League

This league will be absolutely huge and I expect it to be the highest ranked league in Hogg history. Looking at the starting line up I can see as many as dozen contenders for the title of the first ever Hogg Champions League Premier. I think the winner of this league might be the one that is in the fewest leagues. If you are in a number of tough leagues it would prove difficult to direct your focus. Darksiders SCE are a good side of course but he is in that SCE league (ranked one last season) so the Hogg Champions League is one that might get by him. I’m going out on a limb with this league and I’m going to select Masha’s Buddy Franklin to win the title. I’ve already annoyed VC by selecting him as the Champions League spooner so why not do it again I reckon…Pump up ze jams for the spoon.

Hogg Premier League

Darksiders SCE has a record second to none in this league and he is a fair bet to land his third Premier League title this season before it all gets tougher again in 2013. I don’t think my mob will make the Granny this time and I reckon Hondominators YSCC might get there in the end to challenge the Dark Side. My relegation tips for this year are racing thebarton and Woody's Dropkicks who has admitted he is going in ‘half arsed’ this year. He should use his whole arse at this level.

Hogg Division I

For the second straight year Divvy I is absolutely brutal. That’s because we (um the Hogg Committee) always make the rising teams spend at least one season at this level before cracking it in Hogg Premier. Last year’s Division IV guns Has Been and Honey Badgers look the safe bet for the Grand Final (and promotion to Premier next season) but expect a much stronger challenge from Darcy’s newly named Slim Shady DTC but will the real Slim Shady please stand up? Relegated sides for me are one of my lad FOOTYLEDGENS or dunKsKrew and third time lucky for my brother in law the cobras.

Hogg Division II

White Line Fever and the Toolman are the standouts statistically but there are a gaggle of teams who have been flying in formation for several years now. Jims TigerRoos are a consistent scorer but not a consistent winner but I believe he will be right in the promotion hunt along with any one of Moneybrawl, Delicious or Mayhem. The premier will come from that group above and I’ll stick my neck out and select Toolman as the Division III premier. I’m writing off Brownys Boys again (another flag on the way he says) and I reckon the cdfcdevils come up short. On the way down to III is inevitably Voss’ Junkyard along with the less certain members of the drop club Destiny’s Uncles, Pidgeridoo and possibly my mate Spiro and his sharks.

Hogg Division III

Greedy Guns should fire here and win this flag against any one of Harrynutts, Crab Mustard FC or Trader. If my mob make the top four pencil me in for another Grand Final loss. For relegation HOLLANDS HEROS are a Monty for the drop and I reckon TEAM_FISH will also struggle to stay up. Other teams in the gun are The Willies, Backyarders and BlueOwlOde.

Hogg Division IV

Ecky’s Fevola and Stazza are the standouts here and this makes for a potentially one sided division, at least if they are as good as they say they are. So that leaves two other promotion spots up for grabs with Brodlach and Some Can’t the leading contenders statistically. Captain FOOTYLEDGENS should make the eight in this league but like the rest he won’t get past Ecky and Stazza. Looking good for the drop are the Kiwi Krappers, Sturt B Team, pafc1870 and Northern Cats which means I’m predicting an improved season from Carpe Diem.

Hogg Division V

With all the new coaches who bloody knows? It will be one of the new coaches that emerges from the ruck here but look out for Alaska Jnr no doubt getting some Fatherly advice from one of the best coaches in the Hogg. Lightning’s EIMC could also be a contender once he works out the nuances of SuperCoach as opposed to Dream Team play. At the time of writing this league hasn’t been filled yet and relegation won’t be a factor in this league.

Piglet Shield

Gibbo’s Underdogs are looking for their third straight premiership in this league and there are only one or two teams capable of matching them such as Premier League combinations The Cat Empire and Ginger Ninjas. This could well be the season for Underbelly to finally strike but Gibbo’s looking good for a hat trick this season. I reckon she should have some more kids as she obviously has far too much time on her hands. For the spoon I’m backing SC newbie Lily Turner’s iSwiTch.

Bunny Bowl

The way the Bunny Bowl has been structured this season there will be no ‘Hairy Chequebook’ type of domination by a new talented coach feasting on bunny stew all year. This means that the league will be evenly contested and will give struggling teams a chance to win a premiership which is the aim of the league. I believe the winner of this league will be someone who has spent a bit more time on SuperCoach than they have in the past. I reckon that coach might just be Parky Crusaders who showed some late form last year. Look out for the latest edition of the enduring Bunny rivalry, Strawberries and Mighty Eagles who are normally a lock for the worst two coaches in the Hogg. May the least hopeless team not lose.

regards,

REB

Cheers REB, identifying the differences between SC & DT will be a challenge for me, on the bright side, I'll be able to see their scores in the Sunday Mail without having to calculate them myself while I'm on the throne.

REB has no idea what he's on about. The Goory Growlers didn't even get a mention either. Pfffft

Hey REB - I'm coach of the Sturt B Team and I'm a bit confused. Your preview has me in Div IV but the SC site has me in Div V - so where am I meant to be??

Parkys Crusaders... ;)

Would you rather be the winner of the Bunny Bowl, or the loser of Div 5?

Not sure what's better... :D

Win the Bunny and you are in Hogg Champions League next year. Hang on, that still might not answer your question.

No mate my mistake. I told you that you would struggle to stay in Diviison IV. ;) You are in the right league.
