Ultimate Footy

Has anyone played this before??
A couple of mates were talking about it on the weekend.

No salary cap, full draft where you pick your team... meaning only 1 team can pick swan etc...

Scoring is done on 9 categories, kicks, handballs etc. But total team score for each category counts.. eg if team a has a total kick tally of 400 and team b is 375, then team a scores a point for kicks... team with most points out of the 9 categories wins the round...

To me it sounds like an interesting and challenging way to play!

The draft and salary cap is similar to the NFL Fantasy. The issue I find with that is if one of your early draft picks goes down for the year or is given a different role and therefore scores a lot less you are severely depleted and cannot recover easily.
Draft day can also become crucial you have to be present to react to opportunities or fill holes in this case around the categories. I am in two leagues this year in NFL one I was not able to participate in the draft because I was at work, and consequently I am out of the finals as I could never recover and the second I participated in the draft and am involved in a minor final. In both leagues I lost my 2 top draft picks to LTI’s.
Also this prompts the selection of your idea of the best players and really leaves the rookies as unnecessary, which is a shame as I enjoy this part and juggling the salary cap to make value.

Having played both, what style do you prefer?? Supercoach/dreamteam or the draft style?

I've played the last few years and it is awesome.

The Live draft is absolutely brilliant.

A nice variation to the supercoach/dreamteam concept.

Also get on Simulated League Football. The ORIGINAL fantasy AFL. I used to play it when it was in snail mail format (much easier these days on this new fangled interweb).

Yep, played it last year for the first time and came second bottom in my mates' div of 8. Tricky to know when to hold em and when to trade em because your direct opponent might snaffle them and use them against you straight away.

Unlimited trades is great, especially for seasons of 17 teams

I'd much prefer this to the dreamteam or supercoach format because the scoring is much more simplistic. In saying that it's difficult to master because often you go for players who get lots of kicks but don't often handball. The best strategy is to try and get a good balance! (ie, get Priddis on your team!).

it is a cool concept. it works like a real draft - D. Swan can only be picked by one team, Ablett can only be picked by 1 team and so on and so forth until you have your squad of 31. You can trade between teams but both coaches have to agree on a trade. and you can delist players as you see fit also.

I'm certainly no expert in this format but I would pick at least 500? 18 teams x Squads of 31 = 558.
