Yeah, the season is still going but I've been knocked out of the finals in a few of my leagues.

Things I will never do again:

React too early to hype around a player (ala Chris Dawes).

Choose Shaun Higgins over another player in a 50/50 decision.

Mess around with my captain choice and ensure it is always on a premium at all times (Daniel Talia was a captain choice of mine this year on accident - ack!)

It's my best year to date, can't complain, these are just a few things I won't do next year.

I will not keep LTI premium players on the bench, thinking they can be covered by a rookie for a week or two while I hum and haa over a replacement.

I will also not pick Higgins...until a few minutes before Round 1 lockout when he suddenly becomes too good to refuse for the third year in a row.

Another blunder I made was going with starting midfield of 3 premiums + 3 rookies. Should have had 4 premiums in the midfield initially and started with an extra rookie in defence. Had enormous troubles getting to the stage where I had 6 premium mids.

3 rookies in the mids worked really well for me this year. I like it as its easier to find midfield rookies that will play and score well than the other positions. Got to get your 3 premiums right though and Pendles, Swan and Murphy worked well for me this year.

Something I won't do again is get sucked in by someone who's cheap but not a proven premium when it comes to upgrading. Jack Roo I'm looking at you.....

These are great threads .... every year I learn new things and realise I have slipped into the same mistakes

- I keep getting sucked into early season bolters who cost the earth, this year Chapman and Mundy, and get distracted off my original plans and chew up too much money in the process
- I scrimped when I had to trade Selwood and Mundy and ended up with 2 alternatives I wasn't 100% sure about and who haven't performed like I wanted. Lesson = use an extra trade if you have to to get the right players
- if I pick a mid-pricer like Yarran or Gray I need to persist with them or don't pick them at all. I traded both very early yet both did well enough to stay for much longer while I focussed on upgrading my rookies
- I traded in Otten at round 3, lesson = if you are going to upgrade only do so to a premium
- for some reason in my starting team I selected Everitt over Heppell and tied up $160K which squeezed other positions - just back in the rookie
- Sandilands - like Quichey's comment I sat on Sandi for too long hoping I would be vindicated by doing so and he just ended up getting traded anyway

One thing I have got better at is not delaying trading just for the sake of delaying. If the right player is there at the right price then you need to bite the bullet and do the trade.

Cripes I did many of the same things.

- Mundy and Chapman. Tick
- Early Yarran trade. Tick
- Instead of Mitch Wallis put in Cam Richardson for me. You aren't going to get them all right though.

As for Wallis he had the best SC average in the TAC last year as well as the best average in the NAB championships as well. However, there was strong word that both he and Libba were not going to play all matches and I selected Libba as I thought he was ahead of Wallis at the time. Despite being rested a bit I got good value of out Libba.

For me. Higgins and Rioli. NEVER again with Higgins not doing it I mean it this time and Rioli is an even bigger tease. He racks up massive numbers but can literally break down at any time. No sale next season.

Yep, I buttered up for Mundy and Chapman too. Add Scott Thompson to the list as well.

Another I forgot to mention was picking up Brady Rawlings.

Brady has a reasonable history but his back pocket play has hurt his scores, whereas in the midfield tagging role at least he racked up some decent possies.

And I traded in Jonathon Brown after his return match. He plummetted in price and then knocked himself out for the season. That hurt.

1) Grimes
2) Brown
3) Dawes (think he's missed seven weeks or so)
4) Sandilands
5) Shaw
6) Hartlett (this one probably doesn't count as he only went under the knife last week, still, cost me a trade)

I guess six isn't bad??

I had 7 all up forced trades - Grimes, Mundy, Selwood, Sandilands, Newman, Shaw & Watson. Watson, Mundy and Selwood all happened in a short space of time and then one of the replacments in Bartel scored 4 and then missed a week so my middle of the season turned into a mess in my midfield.

It sounds bad on paper but I recall in 2009 I had 5 forced trades. Last year I seemed to be lucky in only having 2 that I can recall.

1) Grimes
2) Brown
3) Dawes (think he's missed seven weeks or so)

5) Shaw
6) Hartlett (this one probably doesn't count as he only went under the knife last week, still, cost me a trade)

I guess six isn't bad??

Watson, Grimes, Suban, Sandilands, Newman, Shaw and maybe you could count Cyril & Higgins.

I kept Sandi, Cyril and Higgo but traded the rest. 4 premium defenders suffered LTI which hurt a bit.

Only had three LTI’s Grimes, Sandi and Mundy (funnily enough toying with picking him up this week if he is back in DT)
Fixed my two obvious duds Round 3 Duffield to Enright and Bewick to Libba.
Byes and Subs did not affect me to much so the planning at the start paid off.
The big plus for the year was my use of MPP’s this has given me massive flexibility and allowed me to ride out niggles, the General and minor injuries without any donuts.
My two risky mid pricers in Petrie and Krakouer worked out alright.
Richardson was the only pain to carry on the bench when other years I have had 3 or 4 of them.

Drinking on a Thursday night and swaying from my plan on the Friday killed me a few times, I accidently got rid of DPP players and didn't replace them alike.
I ended up with about 6 fwds that could go in the middle and only 1 mid that could go fwd. I also had a few defenders that could go to the middle but no mids that could go back, screwed me big time with the byes.
I didn't research too far into the draw to work out who had the multiple bye rounds, I had too much faith in Zac Smith and it killed me in the end.
Biggest mistake was probably reading the sh!t on here about injury clouds Panicked a few times and made sure I had adequate coverage for crap that didn't eventuate.
Roll on 2012, hopefully they start the season on a Friday night and I'm really looking forward to the "no byes".
