Why would you risk him against Adelaide?

From Fox Sports

Geelong could lose three players for their bid to win a 13th straight game when they host Adelaide Crows on Sunday.

Brownlow medallist Jimmy Bartel was heavily concussed for the second time this year and the club will take no risk whatsoever with his health, while Darren Milburn and James Kelly are under a cloud after pulling up hurt after Saturday night's clash against St Kilda.

"He copped a bit of a whack and he didn't really know what he was doing after the game," Geelong's general manager of football Neil Balme said.

"He may well play - they do the CogSport test and a lot of other 'how are they' tests, but we certainly wouldn't take any risk.

"If there's any doubt, we won't play him."

Teammate Paul Chapman told Triple M radio that Bartel was in a bad way.

"After the game I tried to talk to him and he was in la-la land ... he is a hard man Jim and you know if he struggles to get up, he had been hit pretty well," Chapman said.

Milburn has a sore achilles and will be treated through the week. Kelly has an ankle strain.

"They both need to be treated, so there's a chance they won't come up," Balme said.

Hawthorn's seemingly endless injury list has another addition after Rick Ladson hobbled away from his side's 71-point win over Gold Coast Suns with a thigh injury.

Ladson was subbed out late in the second term after tightening up around the top of the thigh and groin area and could be another casualty with the short week leading into Friday night's clash against Essendon.

The Hawks are hopeful Ryan Schoenmakers, a late withdrawal from the side due to a foot problem, will be fit to play.

Essendon could lose a key onballer due to concussion after Heath Hocking was carted from the ground after a heavy collision in general play against North Melbourne.

The Bombers seem certain to also lose Cale Hooker after he pulled a hamstring. Key forward Michael Hurley also pulled up sore.

With Buddy about to be suspended, Mcevoy, Goddard, Nicky Dal have the bye, Bartel doubtful, some of my teams looking decidedly sick. Add to that talk that Heppell to be rested & Lower, Puppy & Duigan a bit jaded lately, well I might be in the Bunny Bowl for another season.
Glad I picked up Suckling & Martin this year early tho, my 2 positives.

Craig only has this week to play him then. He won't be coaching the Crows as of next week.

Take a risk and play him i say. One game IIRC for centrals, but still 2nd best in that game, his rehab has been talked up as absolutely superb and professional. Freo did it with barlow and mzungu (because of there big injury list to some extent), and crows should do it with callinan (because they are poo).

Players out for me this week: Franklin, Riewoldt, Goddard.

Players in this week. Krakeour, Swan and a trade for Shaw maybe

A couple of good pick ups I got in the last few weeks were Stefan Martin, Isaac Smith, Mzungu...

I've had Callinan sitting on the bench all year in either my SC or DT side, and may just give him a crack if he gets a gig...

Not sure if I'll do any further trades this week though, after finally nabbing a couple of wins, I don't want to tinker too much...

If it aint broke, don't fix it...

EDIT: At this stage no trades whatsoever, but Goddard to the bench for N Krakeour (they're only playing the Bulldogs whereas my other playing benchie is L Thompson of the Crows, and they're going to be slaughtered), and upgrading Petrie to Captain as he's got the bye week of battling the Power... And the decent value pick up I forgot was Howe (Melbourne)
