I've never felt so empty on a Thursday afternoon.
Usually I'm buzzing, perusing the AFL website for the ins and outs etc.
Now I don't care.
What are we going to do with ourselves in the fantasy off-season??

Missed the start of the season. No point now. Played last year, didn't have the same buzz for mine.

I reckon we discuss how they will amend the game to cope with the bye next year. how will it go for teams that are stacked with players from one particular team (like a guy i work with that had about 9 power players in round 1!) when that team has its week off?
Will the bench increase (and therefore the salary cap) in size to allow room to move and adapt to players having a bye?
will the rules stay the same and teams will just have to ensure they only have 2 players from each side max (and ensure most of them will play each week when not injured). that would leave no room for sitting on a rookie, hoping they get a game late in the year.
will they allow "free" trades of players if their team is having the bye that weekend?
will they just allow more trades?
or is there other posibilities that i just havent thought of?

From what I have been told:
One extra reserve for each line except ruck.
24 trades allowed in the season.
Season starts round one but has off weeks for the big bye weeks. (3 byes)
The issue may be that Gold Coast have Round 1 as a bye so all those young guns will be cloaked from us for our initial teams.
New strategies to develop.

fair enough. it sounds like a reasonable solution. do you know if there will be a corresponding increase in the salary cap to fit in the extra players? (i know it is only 3 extra in this scenario but i am greedy!)
i agree on the new strategies too. no matter what the solution it will take a more careful approach to the season than previous years. i wouldnt be surprised to see a bit of a drop in average scores, or at least a drop in scores when the top of the table teams have a bye!

It's a whole new dynamic that has changed the game.
Can only be a good thing.

This is a good thing if you think about it.

just feels like next year you cant have too many players from the same team because when they have the bye you will be stuggling and lesser sides will be beating top sides throughout the year

Another thing to think about next season is that there might be 17 team leagues. If that happens there will be promotions going left right and centre in the Hogg.

that thought hadnt even crossed my mind! i suppose that means there will also be a bye (or two) within the fantasy leagues too. there could be lots of interesting permutations in the game next season!

Maybe it was in this thread or somewhere else but I heard a rumour that they may not have league games in the weeks where there's > 1 or 3 teams with the bye.

So have many people been on FanPlanner to have a look at their possible lines up for 2011 yet?
