The Hogg Grand Final Thread 2010

HOGG PREMIER

Image darcy DTF ......Vs...... Image REBCats

In Hogg Premier League it could be third time unlucky for my REBCats as I take on the number one ranked team in the Hogg darcy DTF. Darcy knows what it's like to lose Grand Finals as well as he got done in last year's Division I final. While other coaches have been struggling to fill gaps at this time of year Darcy has remained relatively unscathed despite the loss of Jonathon Brown. Darcy outscored me by over 300 points last week and while I think I can get closer than that this weekend Darcy remains the favourite and he should go on and win this match to be the 2010 Hogg Premier League champion.

HOGG DIVISION I

Image CoverKing's Army......Vs...... Image Hondominators YSCC

The Division I Grand Final looks to be a more evenly matched affair than the Hogg Premier playoff. CoverKing has been a solid coach now in Division I in his two year Hogg Shield career and he's playing off in his first grand final. CoverKing was the best team in the minor round but this does not always equate to a premiership as we all know. Hondo has staged a remarkable comeback that brings back fond memories (for some) of Norwood's 1984 Premiership win. Hondo was at one stage 0-4 and relegation was looking a more likely scenario than reaching out for higher honours. With one donut apiece this weekend you have to consider recent form and on that score I'm tipping a Hondominators victory which probably makes CoverKing one happy coach.

HOGG DIVISION II

Image Slammers......Vs...... Image BenjisBeasts

I haven't written much about Division II this year as there is no REBteam in that league with co-captains hackham hawk and Bazza helping me out with updates. I know that for the majority of the year Matt's Slammers and Sam's Salad Fingers have dominated the year but only Matt's Slammers have made it through to the Grand Final. Matt is 'Matt 852', A Carlton supporter who posts on AFL Online. A lot of the AFL Online posters have proven to be very good at SuperCoach and Matty will be joining other AFL Onliners in Woody, Mozzies, Matty's Knights and LKIF in Division I next season. His opponent in the Grand Final is BenjisBeasts, a team that has slumbered through the majority of their three year Hogg Shield career so far. However this year the Beasts have roared out of hibernation in no uncertain terms with some truly impressive scores being racked up in the run home. Ben, a Lions man from SA is in two Hogg leagues and has made the Grand Final in both. But sorry Benny Boy, I'm selecting Matty to win this one.

HOGG DIVISION III

Image Marion ManBearPigs......Vs...... Image Straycat Strut

The Milky Bar Kid will ride into town and shoot down the villian with the long black twirly moustache in his high noon showdown against a Straycat Strut that is out of bullets. The ManBearPigs will have all 22 on a deck as my Strutties roll out a bakery worth of donuts for the Grand Final. The Struts were down to one trade about seven weeks ago and I hung on until last week only to bring in Mumford who gave me less than 50 points before going down. DOH. #-o This will be an outstanding win for the ManBearPigs who spent all year long chasing the pack and only just snuck into the top four.

HOGG Division IV The Piglet

Image The Underdogs......Vs...... Image REBCats

The Piglet Grand Final could be a historic match. The match up between Gibbo's Underdogs and my bridesmaids the REBCats is a match I believe that I can win. Gibbo has as many, if not more holes in her team than I do in mine. Both match ups this year between the two sides have been very close with The Underdogs winning the Qualifying Final a fortnight ago by a mere 12 points. Gibbo has been outstanding all year and along with the REBCats they have been the standout teams in the weakest of all the Hogg leagues in 2010. REBCats to salute!

HOGG DIVISION V

Image Loathsome......Vs...... Image Delicious

This match will be a high quality final with two teams who are destined for higher honours aiming to put something in the trophy case this weekend. I've played against both and was lucky enough to beat Delicious but it was Loathsome's lineup that looked the more impressive. It was hard to find a weak link and Delicious might have a fight on his hands if he expects to take this flag. Both teams have been sitting around the top of the ladder all season long and this one should be a beauty. I'm tipping a Loathsome victory here as not too many Grannies are delicious unless you live in Ipswich because they are only 38.

HOGG DIVISION VI

Image Longwood Lions......Vs...... Image BenjisBeasts

Division VI was set up as a 'latecomers' division and it turned out to be a very competitive league. Not only was it extremely close at the top end of the league it also proved to be a better league than more than one of the 'higher' Hogg Divisions. Longwood Lions have always looked a likely finalist and I reckon they'll be hard to stop for the premiership this week. As they did in Division II BenjisBeasts came from nowhere with a tsunami of great scoring to smash their way into the Grand Final. I reckon poor ol Benji will be doing a REB here, multiple Grannies with no flag on the end of it.

REB iv got 2 zeros with didak out aswell! So now my forward line of didak chapman pavlich v Franklin watts n rockliff is more evenly matched! And to be honest I didn't really look at it since Tuesday,
and the result means nothing as iv got what iv wanted, promotion to premier league, in which winning the grand
final is more important!!

Good luck to all sides!

Mate I'd take a flag in Division LXVIII right now. I'm well behind in all three grannies already.

And to rub salt into the wounds, three cats are out.

Selwood, Enright and Byrnes.

Thankfully myself and Hondo will both get a zero from Enrights loss

Wow! That's huge news with those 3 out. Far out. Some teams will be really hurting this weekend with Enright & Selwood especially missing.

Why couldn't they give chapman a rest instead! ;)

Both CK and I had Ablett captain - 176 points! x 2!

This game will go down to the wire. Damn Kelly scored a lazy 142.

EDIT: now it's down to me Watts + 57 points v Tuck. Too close to call. Watt's usually gets about 50-60 and Tuck could easily get 120.

Well played Hondo good luck mate

HOGG PREMIER

Darcy dtf 2266
REBCats 1940

Darcy is the new Hogg Premier Champion after I got well and truly owned in the Grand Final for the third year running. Darcy had a trade up his sleeve to replace Jonathon Brown and I was cruelled by the omission of two Cat players who would have racked up the points against the Eagles. Back to the drawing board for the REBCats but next year will be even tougher.

HOGG DIVISION I

Hondominators YSCC 2082
CoverKing's Army 2064

Congratulations to Hondo as the comeback kid has beaten the CoverKing to take out the Division I title in 2010 after winning a real nailbiter by 18 points. Based on this year's rankings both coaches look to be strong contenders for the 2011 season. Hondo has won his second Hogg Premiership after winning the Division II title in 2009.

HOGG DIVISION II

BenjisBeasts 2176
Slammers 2131

Congratulations to BenjisBeasts who won two Hogg Shield Premierships on the weekend and not the donut I thought he was going to win. The Beasts cleaned up the second big scalp in as many weeks on the way to the Division II title after it looked earlier in the year that the Slammers and Salad Fingers were on their way to a Grand Final appearance.

HOGG DIVISION III

Marion ManBearPigs 2049
Straycat Strut 1651

The milky bar kid has proven himself to be a master coach and his scheming ways has delivered the Hogg Division III title to the mighty ManBearPigs who absolutely thrashed my Strutties who recorded the lowest score I've ever gotten in SuperCoach. Just as well it wasn't an important game then! Well done to the ManBearPigs who will make a good account of themselves in Division II next season.

HOGG Division IV The Piglet

The Underdogs 2090
REBCats 1940

Ouch now this one really hurts! I've made everyone in the Piglet very happy indeed with this spuddy performance. I might have had half a chance if I had stuck with Gazza as skipper but instead I ended up with a subdued Swan after the late withdrawal of Selwood. Gibbo is the new Division IV champion even though she had plenty of donuts as well. Well done to the Gibb.
