The Hogg Shield Promotion/Relegation Thread

Greetings Hoggers. This thread is for all things relegation and promotion for the 2011 Hogg Shield. With the relegation finals a mere three weeks away hopefully this information will help you devise your promotion or survival strategy for next season.
Promotion Rules: Hogg Division I to Hogg Division III
In Round 19 of the AFL season, the SuperCoach finals begin. For coaches in the Divisions above if you can make it to the Grand Final of your league you will be offered a promotion into the next highest grade.
Relegation Rules: Hogg Premier to Hogg Division II
In Round 19 of the AFL season, a 'finals' series is held for the bottom eight of your league. If you are in an 'Elimination' final that means you are in the drop zone and up for relegation. If you lose your Relegation final you will be playing in a lower Division next season (a drop of one grade).
Relegation Rules: Hogg Division III
If you lose your Relegation final (see above) you will drop into the Pool rather than be relegated to Division IV. All of the grades lower than Division III are in a pool with positions in Division IV offered by rankings points.
Promotion Rules: Hogg Division IV
The two highest ranking eligble sides (i.e. sides not already playing in a higher division) will be offered places in Hogg Division III next season.
regards,
REB

The Pool
The Pool is for all coaches who are not currently in Hogg Premier to Hogg Division IV, i.e. All Division V and VI coaches and first time Hogg coaches for season 2011.
Promotion Rules: Hogg Division V and VI
The top sixteen sides in order of rankings points will be invited to play in Hogg Division IV next season. Standings will be posted in this thread. If the Hogg Division IV coaches do not elect to be premoted (as we're pretty casual in the Piglet!) then the top two ranked sides would then be promoted to Division III.
If any coach in a higher grade elects not to play in 2011 then teams from the Pool may get shifted into Division III in this way as well.
New coaches 2011
Precedence is given to existing Hogg coaches. All new coaches must produce proof of their overall ranking points to be seeded higher in their first Hogg season. New coaches will not be offered a place in Hogg Premier or Hogg Divisions I or II regardless of how good they were this season.
regards,
REB

Thanks REB that is good info. A few questions:
Will the pool system for Divisions lower than III apply again at the end of 2011 or will Div IV, Div V and Div VI revert to a promotion/relegation system like the upper four Divisions?
Have you considered the notion of promoting/relegating four teams from each Division rather than just two - it would see more teams moving up and down each year and would make things more interesting for more teams.
What is the story with coaches (such as yourself) who have teams in several Divisions? Can these teams ever be placed in the same Division so they are effectively playing against themselves?

I reckon relegating four teams is a bit harsh. In English Premier League they relegate three out of 20 so four out of 16 is a bit rude. The current system allows for an off season. Another thing to remember is that a lot of coaches quit every year. So that means seeding can be a difficult thing to arrange and it would get a lot harder with four going in and out each year.
In answer to your second question, the only coach who has two teams is myself. Everyone else (eg THE BLOODS, Boontime) it's the same side in different Hogg Leagues. Straycat Strut has been created to help me manage the leagues. If I could find a 'captain' in each league I wouldn't need to create the Strutties. Straycat Strut will never play against REBCats.
As for the pool next year. Haven't thought that far ahead.

REB

Ankles a fair way behind Knuckle Sandwich so this looks done and dusted. If the Piglet teams don't accept their promotion then Longwood Lions and Jim's TigerRoos would go into Division III and Ankles and Goonies would go into Division IV.

Relegation Finals 2010
Losers of all matches relegated to the grade below it.
Hogg Premier
Brown nosed Fev vs. chardy socialists
Squeakeroos vs. Buddy&TheBoys
Brown nosed Fev will go into their second relegation final in a row but even though they are in form they face a tough test against chardy socialists. Squeakeroos won Division I last year but could go straight back down if they can't beat Buddy who was playing Hogg Premier finals this time last year.
Hogg Division I
LKIF vs. Pickles PA
Blue Boy vs. cobras
Pickles PA and cobras have been dragging the chain all year and both are likely to face the drop.
Hogg Division II
My Name's not Norm vs. Boontime
Copper Handfull vs. Raging Hooligans
Bum Crack was talking it up early in the year and has had a shocker this season but still he should have Booney covered. Permstance should take out the Raging Hooligans to earn a second shot at Division II.
Hogg Division III
Year of the Tiger vs. TheWorstThereIs
Onegameatatimers vs. Strawbsberries
Year of the Tiger and the Onegameatatimers should both stay 'out of the pool' with wins this week.

REB

Bye bye Pickles thanks for not doing anything this year other than picking a starting team and messing with Div 1's ranking. Don't think he logged in since March

Hondo, have u looked at where i ranking would be if we had another person instead of Pickles, say averaging the same as 15th placed?
Would we be close to Hogg Premier? Damn pickles!

Div 1 averages 2043 per player per round and is ranked 2761
If you assume Pickles averaged 1400 per round then the rest of us averaged 2086
Had we all averaged 2086 we'd be a lot higher but don't know how much. Surely closer to the top 1000?

My brother in law Dale hasn't done much either but he's been overseas for work and play and has at least looked at his side from time to time.

I'm very worried.
I'm on a downward spiral I can't seem to stop.
My last three weeks has cost me a spot in the finals.
Two trades remaining...
