Round 11 Previews

Has Been vs. Captain Who? MATCH OF THE ROUND

This week sees ladder leaders Has Been up against 5th ranked Captain Who? The Captain doesn't look all that scary but somehow his boys keep getting over the line but he faces his toughest test this year against the super-consistent Has Been who haven't done a lot wrong in their Premier League history. However, even the Beeners would be hard pressed to win this week as they look to be very light on for troops. The Captain is missing heaps as well but he starts this match with a decided advantage. Like most rounds this week the score projections are dodgy as and it's down to whether or not the coach trades. At 8-2 I can see Has Been resisting that temptation in a move that could provide dividends later in the season. My tip - Captain Who?

REBCats vs. Honey Badgers

It's just as well us SuperCoaches don't cop the same level of attention as real coaches or I would be copping the Mick Malthouse treatment at the moment. The REBCats have lurched from one disaster from the next and at the moment the only time I'm optimistic is on Monday morning. Usually by mid-week this feeling has well and truly evaporated but I think the Cats can get over the Honey Badgers even though they have been outscoring us regularly in the last few weeks. For some unfathomable reason, I reckon the REBCats are a chance even if we can't match the Badgers' ruck pairing of Goldy and Nic Nat who are both looking solid. I might just phone Simmo and tell him to give the lad McGovern a two week rest as surely the Eagles can't afford to lose him. My tip - REBCats.

Cotch Lickers vs. Buddy Franklin

Both of these teams have threatened to be mid table teams but can't quite seem to consolidate that spot in the top eight. Cotch was looking very good a few weeks ago and now Buddy has moved into the eight. I don't reckon there is room for both of these teams in the eight so what an important match for both. A win by Buddy would give them a two game plus percentage gap on the Lickers and that would be tough to track down in six rounds. The Lickers have the higher projected score and Miller looks set to be milked for an upgrade in the midfield. I think this mooove and his bevvy of Tigers should see him home against Buddy. My tip - Cotch Lickers

SHARKS vs. Squeakeroos DTC

It appears SC Gold is as guilty of underestimating Squeaky as I have been this season. The SHARKS have been absolutely decimated and have well and truly lost that loving feeling. Squeaky will have at least eighteen players on the field and that's before he presses the T Button. Try as he might any changes Spiro might make would be akin to shuffling the decks on the Titanic. Just like the Titanic passengers, Squeaky won't have to worry about SHARKS because they have gone stone cold. ICEBERG DEAD AHEAD! My tip - Squeakeroos DTC.

Les's Men vs. Underdogs

Last week Les's Men got the job done against Hondo after the Bye Gods smiled on him but this week they have turned around and bitten on the arse like a pack of hungry Underdogs. But there is no need to fear as Les has been on the ball all season and you sense he might have been resting easy as he swatted Hondo away and has kept his powder dry to chuck a few Flea Bombs on Gibbo. The Underdogs normally go all right though and I can see them sneaking over the line in the closest match of the round. My tip - Underdogs.

Q Before You vs. Peptide Army

These two blokes have to be the tinniest blokes in the Hogg....more arse than Freddie Mercury's trailer. Q routinely makes a shitload of early season blunders but still sits in the top four and every team seems to shrivel up and score bugger all when they play the Army. Well, the fun is over lads as one you buggers is about to lose. Ah, but which one I don't hear you ask? I reckon it' s Troy..he doesn't sound all that convincing with his confident talk to me this week...Rik E smells a rodent but maybe it's time to change my aftershave. My tip - Q Before You...but I'd like to see a draw.

Ecky's Fevolas vs. Hondo SCC

I've been whinging all week about SuperCoach but if anyone had a right to throw the toys out of the Cot it was Ecky. He held back early, not pressing the T button and then appeared to amp it up just before the bye period. Then he comes out last week and scores a very good score but can't get the job done against the mighty Rolfs. Talk about stiff. The ladder is not doing Ecky any justice at all. The ladder is quite accurate in Hondo's case though as he has struggled with consistency perhaps because he appears to be as patient as Ecky with blokes like Henderson and Bennell still on his list. This week I think Ecky might be in for a bit more pain as I reckon Hondo can gather up enough points to make up for last week's reversal. My tip - Hondo SCC.

wycbloods vs. Cork in the Ocean

Both teams have been on the up in recent weeks with the bloods in particular under plenty of pressure to stay up after an early season losing run. Corky meanwhile, have bounded back into the top eight and back into premiership calculations on the back of a few wins. The bloods haven't had much luck in terms of injury this season and that has continued as he has gun ruckman Mummy out of action for the year which is exactly what he doesn't want during the bye weeks (step up Mr Goldstein?). Despite the predictions of SC Gold which has this match as an easy Corky victory, they don't look all that much better. But better they do indeed look so it's back to the loser's list for the bloods and another win to Corky. My tip - Cork in the Ocean.

Longwood Lions vs. Ben Rolfsburgers

Normally I'd have the Lions in the gun against the Rolfs but it's not a bad week to be playing the league's top scorer. The Rolfs are well down on strength and the Lions are not without a chance. This one looks like it's going to be incredibly close and like the first match will Rolfs trade this week or back his blokes in? He could have his cake and eat it too but that wouldn't make for a very good fitness routine mid season...you could come back looking like Colin Sylvia. So I'm opting for the Dermott Brereton tipping model here..spend the whole preview pumping up the underdog but then chickening out and selecting the favourite. My tip - Ben Rolfsburgers.

Henderson and Bennell have definitely been holding me back. Both being more on the POD side (esp Henderson) has hurt.

I'll have to finally fix Henderson this weekend and Bennell has the bye.

18 Honey Badgers 2 9 0 22354 23161 96.52 8

Squeakeroos have emerged as a genuine title contender this weekend unleashing a mighty 2000 in what is universally regarded as the toughest of the bye weeks. Other teams to do well included Hondo with his 1823 and unluckily, Ecky's Fevolas whose 1803 was twenty short of Hondo so it's another high scoring loss for the Fevs. I can't see Ecky continuing to lose matches but at 2-9 it's desperate times indeed for the Fevs.

The top sides showed why they are just that as they consolidated their top eight spots. Apart from a rampant Squeaky, Has Been, Les's Men, The Rolfs, Q and Cork In the Ocean all got the job done when usually the better sides have a bit of a stumble come the bye weeks. Cotch Lickers returned to the top eight after displacing Buddy Franklin in what was a crucial match and Underdogs couldn't go the distance with Les's Men to slide to 11th.

The SHARKS continued on with their barren run and it wasn't a good week for wycbloods or Peptide Army either. The REBCats ended their losing run after an elventh hour trade to bring in Neal Bullen who somehow kicked three goods proved the difference against bottom of the ladder Honey Badgers.

I had my phone set to monitor what I thought was my Hogg Premier matchup but it was actually Hogg Elite. So all weekend I thought home and hosed easy against Les' Men yet I had this tight tussle on my hands with Ecky as it turned out.

Not surprised ](*,)

I just cant catch a break!

As usual, i'm going to go zip-3 over the byes and fly up the rankings.

Its officially panic stations at the Honey Badgers now. All trades will be burnt in an attempt to knock off the top placed Has Been and 2nd placed Les's Men in the next fortnight!

Round 12 Preview

Last week of bye weeks. Thank god.

Q Before You vs. Squeakeroos DTC - Match of the Round

Both of these teams are red-hot at the moment with the mighty Squeakys rolling all the way up to third spot on the ladder. The Q Man appears to be one to watch in the run home and he can stake his claim for a spot in the top four by knocking off Squeakeroos DTC. The SC Gold Projections has Q out to a big lead but we all know that coaches have three trades to try and wrangle out a few points in order to turn around a projected dire outcome. I don't think Squeaky can bridge what looks to be a pretty sizeable gap against a coach I believe is in a reasonably trade-rich environment. My tip - Q Before You.

REBCats vs. Cotch Lickers

So far this season CoverKing has had a slip up when things have looked to turn around for his team. However, this week he looks up and sees that he is about to play one of the weakest teams in the Premier League and one that he has a very good record against. Since CoverKing joined the league, the REBCats have only saluted against him once and that was during a final. While this might be a final as far as the REBCats go, it's not actually August yet so the bragging rights should remain with the Lickers which would just about put me out of business this year. My tip - Cotch Lickers.

Has Been vs. Honey Badgers

These teams often are quite close in scoring patterns over the years but the form line in terms of wins and losses couldn't be more different. While Has Been deserves his place at the top of the ladder there are probably a few sides who should be stone motherless rather than the Badgers but he can't quite seem to get the W on the board. In the next two weeks the Badgers will be digging in and throwing everything at the top two teams that he plays in the next two weeks. Watch him score a bunch and lose both. I hope so cos he's right up my arse. He should have burnt the trades against my duddy mob instead. My tip - Has Been.

SHARKS vs. Buddy Franklin

Buddy Franklin has been one of the more inconsistent teams in Premier League this year and he can't quite string together a run of wins. As a result he's outside the eight and needing a win to get back in town. Meanwhile, the SHARKS have been very consistent. At first they were consistently good and lately they've been consistently shithouse. Now young Spiro knows how to play this game so I get the feeling that the SHARKies are about to turn the corner which doesn't bode well for Buddy. Franklin my dear I don't give a damn because he beat me and I'm hoping to get revenge on the SHARKS for beating me in the Piglet. This one is a real toss of the coin job but I think the SHARKS can get up. My tip - SHARKS.

Les's Men vs. Captain Who?

Like most Les's, Les's Men have been pretty solid so far this year. Hanging around the top of the ladder and handing out defeats to most comers it's been a pretty good season from the debutant. Looking at the Captain's side, I'm amazed he is not relegated already but the sly dog keeps on winning matches as well and knocking on the door for yet another finals campaign at this level. Score projections dares to suggest that Les might be in a bit bother but I like to amuse myself by tipping against Groover and I believe I shall do so again...just for the LOLs. You're rubbish dude! My tip - Les's Men.

Ecky's Fevolas vs. Underdogs

Ecky's mates aren't hanging around pestering him for Lotto numbers in the last few weeks. He has been beaten twice during the bye rounds despite scoring over 2000 in round 11 and topping 1800 last week. The SC Gods reckon he is going to score big again this week...could the poor bugger get rolled three times with three big scores in the bye weeks? Nah, even Philip J Fry isn't that unlucky and it's time Ecky brought out the seven leaf clover from the Ronco Record Vault. He's due. My tip - Ecky's Fevolas.

wycbloods vs. Peptide Army

Once again Hammo has been talking himself up saying that he brought out the heavy armour last week with wycbloods apparently in his sights. Now the bloods aren't exactly the league's best scorer so if the Peptide Army doesn't get the job done in this one he might end up joining finny, Woggy and Gingernuts next season. However, Troy reckons he'll look after me this week and 'take care of bloods for you'. With more hope than assurance, I'm selecting the Peptide Army to put the heat on wycbloods, but only one of these coaches was silly enough to keep Jordy Lewis.... My tip - Peptide Army.

Longwood Lions vs. Hondo

The SC Gold score projections rates the Longwood Lions the best side of this round which is tough luck for Hondo as a quick Captain Cook at the ladder might suggest. The Lions don't have a successful record at the Premier League level but they are making a good fist of it this season. If they can account for league heavyweights Hondo in this match they could go on to be a sneaky finals chance which would be a fine achievement for a bloke who rides Dinosaurs for half the fantasy footy season. My tip - Longwood Lions.

Ben Rolfsburgers vs. Cork in the Ocean

The Rolfs, like Les's Men have made a big splash in their debut Premier League season and one of the teams they are trying to elbow their way past is the reigning premier Cork in the Ocean. Corky has gotten his groove back in recent weeks and now looks set for a bottler of a season (ugh......sorry!) but he's been trying to keep a lid on it ha ha. This is close to being match of the round here and I reckon it will be a real nailbiter and a bit of a preview for a match up in the finals later on. Both teams are in good form but history shows a lot of teams save their best for the Rolfs and if Corky can produce a vintage crop then he'll have the Rolfs over a barrel. My tip - Cork in the Ocean.

Yes it doesn't look good for me. Not much I can do about it as league match ups over the byes have a lot of luck involved unless you monitor your match ups and set up your team JUST to win those 3 games. It depends on how you have approached your bye rounds and clearly Alaska was planning a big R13.

In fact across all my leagues Alaska's projected R13 score is easily the stand out predicted score. Why does he have to play me then? :(

My plan was to sacrifice round 12 but loosing Round 11 by 8 points hurt. :(
I also have so many trades left so I can match your Martin and Sloane and get rid of 3 players not playing to give me FWD and MID bench cover this week. ;)
From now I have a full team plus one, two trades a week to further enhance that backline will now be occurring.

18 Honey Badgers 3 9 24137 24911 96.89 12

This season is the closest ever in the history of the Premier League with only six wins separating the top side from the bottom. In fact it is so close that this week 18th ranked Honey Badgers knocked off top team Has Been to keep their hopes alive for another week. This week it was the established sides of the Premier League who got a bit of revenge on the newcomers as Squeakeroos climbed to a career best second on the ladder and the reigning premier Cork in the Ocean getting a win as well as the Captain and Cotch Lickers who consolidated their place in the eight.

It was a good week for a couple of teams outside of the eight this week. SHARKS ended a run of losses by cleaning up Buddy and Longwood Lions got the job done to stave off relegation worries. At the bottom of the ladder I've already mentioned the Badgers' win but Ecky's Fevolas finally broke through for a win after a couple of unlucky losses.

In this league there a couple of teams that don't look to be much threat and they are my REBCats and the wycbloods. Both the Badgers and the Fevs are going much better than us and it will take a big effort for bloods and myself to avoid the drop.

My big weakness at the moment is I do not have Fyfe and Martin did not work as VC so I went with Steven who also bombed. Also the reason I lost last week. Getting Fyfe in is my next target.
Although with Buddy, Sloane, TMitchell it may be hard this round.
