Review Round 7

Only one wrong this week with my Lions going down to Cossi’s Carnts who have been scoring consistently for the last 4 weeks to come back into final 8 contention.

Les’s Men continued on their unbeaten run by beating the Heroes by 30 points in a close one.

The Spuds had the highest score for the round and bundled the Beasts out of the 8 who had a shocking sub 2000 round to destroy their percentage.

Buddy was the benefactor of this by beating the Potenza and jumping into the 8.
The Potenza’s scores are improving but they still do not have a win and are looking down the barrel with FootyLedgens at relegation.

Rumcoks are in an interesting position only sitting on 2 wins but with a better winning than losing score in the home and away rounds so far.

With some of our cash cows now mooing and the last round before the byes a lot of sleepless nights will now be the norm for the true Supercoach coaches as they fine tune strategies and change the plan over and over again (a bit like preseason really).

I only hope the real AFL coaches don’t mess up the plot by resting guns to give them two weeks off around their byes. Shirley they have games against GWS, GCS and Melbourne to rest those that need it?

Round 8 tips
Last round before Bye psychosis settles in. Do Geelong, Essendon or Collingwood rest any players this week due to the General as they have the byes against the easybeats. All three have the round 12 bye so it may be on the cards as Essendon rested Heppell last week. With Tom Hawkins and Crameri looking to have a 3 week break, others could follow. Or we could be in for a record braking round for those that have their guns from these three teams.

Les’s Men on the other hand do not look like taking a break just yet and should beat DunkzKrew whom seem to have gone into a pre bye snooze spudding up donuts in defence and make it 8 straight.

The Lions are snarling after their close loss last week and look to have the Heroes from Hondas’ measure based on last couple of weeks scoring. I have not played the Heroes before and am very keen to start off with a win utilising my strength in the midfield eg J Kennedy, J Selwood, S. Selwood and Boyd against his rookies Magner, Shiel, Horsley and McDonald,.

The Denver Crows and the Honey Badgers meet in a battle of defeated 2011 grand finalists the Crows Div 2 and the Badgers Div 4. They both have different strategies for playing this game with the Badgers charging out of their den and front running and the Crows biding there time waiting to pick the bones at the end of the season. I think the Badgers should win as they are a bit more savage now.

The next game appears to be the close one with only 3 points separating them last week Cossi has moved up a gear and is looking strong, but the Bullies also look to be building a stronger team each week and should just win.

SlimShady who crashed out last week perhaps blaming Sandy, Sherman, Swan, Cloke and Malceski take on the superstar of last week in The Spuds and will struggle to make up the 300 point deficit and will fall short.

The ManBearPigs will be anxious to not let Buddy get away from him as only one win separates them on the ladder, however Buddy looks more accomplished at the moment and should get up.

The Cobras seem to have stayed on the land and recovered their composure and take on an injured Beast’s outfit. Both these teams do not have the worry about whether Buddy fires or not so are even from that perspective and they have a lot of POD’s to each other. The Beast’s need to win this and should just get up.

We now come to another critical match for the year the two winless teams play off to force the other to take the spoon for now. Unfortunately Cub's FootyLedgens have hit some tough times and doesn’t look like he can beat the Potenza.

The last game sees 14th play 4th and if they had played last week 14th placed Rumcoks would have won, but Has Been has been more consistent and should triumph in this clash.

Hasbeen and I should have a good battle. Potentially 15 or 16 players that will be in both teams. Hasbeen has the edge, with GAblett in his midfield.

Round 8 Review
7 out of 9 this week and once again I would have accepted that in my Footy Tips on the AFL.
As predicted the Cats rested 3 on the eve of the game and I thought the SC gods were having an impact a couple of times on the weekend with Selwood and Pendels hobbling early in their games.
It will be interesting to see if there is any long term impact of this.

Cossi continued his rich vein of form and easily accounted for the Bullies which now sees Cossi on 4 wins and 4 losses going into the byes.
The Manbearpigs also managed to stop Buddy (more than North Melbourne can say) and knock him out of the 8 with now both on 4 and 4 as well.
The Beasts with the third lowest score of the round managed an important win over the Cobras and propelled themselves into the 8.
The Badgers had the highest score of the round and beat the Crows by 240 points, the Crows seem to be having trouble with some of the heavy hitters in the league after a dream start.
As predicted SlimShady fell 3 points short of The Spuds trying to make up the 300 point deficit from the week before this combined with the Bullies loss has elevated The Spuds into 2nd spot with only 1 loss.
Puopolo Potenza opened up their account for its first win in style scoring 2303 which was fortunate as the FootyLedgens also returned to a bit of form but not good enough to beat the Potenza.
As Ron predicted his Ablett-less midfield paid the price and Has Been narrowly won to keep his hold on 4th spot safe.

We now enter into unchartered waters with the next three weeks only having two thirds of the teams playing each week. The various bye strategies will kick in and predicting wins will be impossible.
This should give the advantage to our resident sailor, the Cobras, so do not be surprised to see him with 3 wins over the next three weeks. It will be very interesting to see the positions on the ladder at the end of the byes.
With the relative evenness of the competition the impacts of 1, 2, 3 or even 7 donuts will have an impact and could see teams outside the 8 in the top 4 at the end of it. On top of this the downgrade targets have just about dried up with a number around now that will not see game time again after the byes with teams fighting for the finals, coming together except for injuries.

Interesting to note the 'Against' scores.

All the top 8 have had under 17000 kicked against, and the Bottom 10, over 17000 (*excluding Cobras/Hondo)

I think ladder position should be based on Points, then each teams 'For' score.

I like Head-to-head, but percentage is unfair.

Some good scores considering the byes to Les’s Men, The Spuds, Buddy Franklin, SlimShady DTC, Marion ManBearPigs and Rumcoks all scoring over 1,500 points for the round and winning their matches. The average score for Division 1 in this round was 1,349.

Boongas Bulldogs had the worst score of 977 that saw him drop to 4th spot on 6 wins. I hope he keeps that form line for the next match.

The Denver Crows and BenjisBeasts performed poorly and have dropped out of the 8 with the Honey Badgers and Buddy taking their spots. We now have a log jam with 7 teams on 5 wins and 2 on 4 all fighting for spots in the bottom half of the 8 at the moment.

So this week Collingwood, Essendon, Fremantle, Geelong, Melbourne and Sydney all have their turn for the bye. Please remember the lockout on Thursday and an opportunity for using the Captaincy loophole.

I predict an increase in our average score by about 300 points for this second round with fewer donuts but less premiums available to inflate the scores.

About time my side showed something! Ranked 549 overall, by far my best effort. Included a dirty 7 from Treloar too...

Round 10
1825 average score for Div 1 this week 476 more than the first bye round which was 176 more than I predicted.
Les’s Men kept their unbeaten run intact but only just as the Badgers fell 4 points short. In another close game The Spuds in second spot snuck in by 5 points over DunksKrew who now drop into the relegation zone. This was helped by the Potenza improving by 1173 points over the last game and begging for a swab to be taken.

Good wins to the ManBearPigs and the Crows see them vault into the 8 at the expense of the Lions and Slim Shady who suffered defeats.
With the last of the bye rounds this week we will see if the Bulldogs in 4th spot can dent the all conquering Les’s Men. The other match of importance which may determine the relegation state of affairs is DunksKrew versus the Cobras both on 2 wins.

Don’t forget Carlton, Gold Coast, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide, Richmond and St Kilda have the bye this week and with some tough games for the other teams with our guns in them Captaincy choice will be critical. I predict average scores will be around the same as this week with most teams looking at big outs in their defence.

One prophecy I will also make is shirley with two terrible scores over the first two bye round the Beasts will maul the ManBearPigs this week!

Prophecy or fact???
My MBR approach (or lack of) always had 11 & 12 as my strong rounds. Round 13, I will be smashed, having said that, most said over the MBR's that they'd take two wins out of the three games.

If I counted correctly Les's Men will have 6 donuts before trading with Magner named last on an extended bench (means nothing I guess)

I have 4... After trades... Hmmm... Could be an interesting one. Would be nice to come out with a win...

Looking at the table and the matchups it seems a very interesting week... I haven't looked at the sides etc but we could have 7 teams on 6-5 at the end of the round, we could also see a 2 game buffer created for the top 4...

Then again it could all go pear shaped, it is a bye round after all

Looks like my bye strategy has failed badly, looking at 5 donuts already before late changes for this round and therefore three losses from three bye rounds.
