Moves in the top 4 this week, as the Sharks, as expected had too many slots to fill lost to the Spuds and dropped to 3rd and were replaced by Has Been with a solid win who are now breathing on top spot. Q’s loss to Harrynuts has dropped him out of the 4 and allowed Rueben’s Darksiders into the 4th spot. Crockocrack’s surprise loss to the devils has given the Spuds 8th spot on 9 wins. Richo Richo and Ecky’s Fevolas along with crockocrack remain 1 win out of the 8 nevertheless still have a chance to get in. The other move in the ladder was the Ninjas climbing off the bottom due to a good win against the League leaders and leaving The Hotshots with the wooden spoon at least till next week.

Two rounds before the finals and the three teams trying to get a spot in the 8 have a tough task this week. Ecky has to beat Q, who, I am sure will not make the same mistake as last week and should terminate the Fevola’s aspirations. Richo Richo Man has to triumph over the second placed Has Been who are running at least a 200 point a week advantage and should win easily and maybe take 1st spot.

Crockocrack who were in the 8 last week now face their replacement Spuds who have picked up and will be a difficult proposition. I believe the Crock will not crack the Spuds and hey will remain in the 8.

The other game of interest this weekend is the battle for the wooden spoon between The Ginger Ninjas and The Hotshots the Ninjas leapt out of last spot last week with a good win over the Cowboys and look too polished for the Hotshots (although you have to feel sorry for Heater as he has had the most scored against him this year as teams have relished the chance of an easy win). However, the Ninjas have been able to snatch defeat out of many situations this season so they are no certainty.

Spiro’s sharks have hit a hard stretch, with injuries and suspensions and look to fall to harrynutts which will risk them tumbling back into the ruck of the bottom 4.

Rack City are on the rocks and could struggle again this week and will be limping into the last week hoping a big win in that week against the Hotshots could freshen the team up for the finals.

Only one change in the ladder this week and that was as a result of the Sharks picking themselves back up and defeating harrynutts thus dropping them to 8th place. Crockocrack had its last shot at a finals berth but lost to Spuds and although playing Harrynutts this week needs to win by 600 points to get enough percentage to gain access to the 8.

So the 8 teams are set for finals action one week early but a spot in the top 4 may still be up for grabs.

Rack City found some form in beating the Lions and look equal favourite for the title with Q before You, who had the highest score for the round in our league. They will be hoping that the Spuds beat the Darksiders next week and they can then take a spot in the top 4. The Spuds look to be the other in form team at the moment that could give the title a shake.

In the other notable game this week the Ginger Ninjas ensured the wooden spoon was given to The Hotshots by winning this round and putting them a game and percentage above them on the ladder.

First week of finals preview

First week of the finals and teams are full of stars that coaches’ hope will deliver them big scores to push them over the line for a win. Looking at the finals teams this week it comes down to only 6 or 7 players between each opponent that are different so all matches should be close.

1st Qualifying Final

Rack City Cowboys ranked 2202 in SC have POD’s Hartlett, Shaw, Priddis, Dangerfield Fyfe, Kreuzer and Walker play against Captain Who? ranked marginally better with 1986 have POD’s Houli, Goodes/Clisby, Barlow, Selwood, Jacobs, Nic Nat and Cox. The Captain snuck into the 4 last week but takes on the competitions benchmark coach this season and looking at the POD’s I will select the Cowboys to go straight into the Preliminary final.

2nd Qualifying Final

Has Been our highest SC ranked player in this League at 1400 with POD’s Heppell, McKenzie, Priddis, Selwood, Martin and Macaffer take on a finals hardened Darksiders SCE ranked 1537 in SC with POD’s Hartlett, Dixon, Delidio, Cotchin, Dangerfield and Walker. My take on the matchups is that Darksiders will win a close encounter that will leave Has Been to fight off for further glory next week.

1st Elimination Final

Q Before You are still building and will be livid at the Captain’s big win over the Devils last week that enabled them to push past him and the Sharks to snaffle the double chance. They take on harrynutts who has had a settled side for a while but I think has used all his trades and will be hoping that AFL’s coaches do not start calling on the General as Q has more depth across the field. Q should defeat the nutts to push them out for 2013.

2nd Elimination Final

The sharks shock loss to Ecky last week tumbled them out of the top 4 and into a cutthroat game with the Spuds who were beaten by a resurging Darksiders last week but had done enough to retain their spot in the 8. This will be a close match and could go either way and the captain choice could be the decider. I will put the mocker on the Spuds just.

1st Semi Final

The Teams:
The Rack City Cowboys currently are 7th in their second year in the Hogg following a 16th spot last year but qualifying for the Champions league by winning the Div 5 title last year.
Their opponent is Harrynuts who finished top of the Hogg last year after finishing 17th in their first year of 2011 have slipped a bit this year to currently being 26th. They qualified having been runner up in Div 3 last year.

I have done Harry a disservice in earlier predictions as Honda7 assures us he has trades left will need to look to these as he appears undermanned with Staker, Dixon and Zorko all being currently on the field I think this should give the Cowboys victory.

2nd Semi Final

The Teams:
Darksiders SCE have been very consistent this year (currently are 8th) like the previous 2 where they and also finished 8th in the Hogg last year and top in 2011. They qualified for the Champions league on the back of that 8th place as they did not fare well in the Premier League finals last year.
Their opponent is the Sharks who are relatively new to the Hogg and are currently sitting 19th having finished 55th in 2011 but qualified 5th last year and this gained them access to the Champions league.

The Darksiders have a 79% win loss record and look settled although with a few unusual POD’s this year that adds uncertainty to their scoring but should beat the sharks by a small margin as they are not quite at full strength with Nicholls and Ibbotson still out.

Not quite. The sharks have been in the Hogg for four years. However, his firs two seasons were pretty unremarkable. Spiro has kicked on in the last two seasons without a doubt.

Preliminary Finals Preview

Sharks missed most of the carnage last weekend with the likes of M Johnson, C. Enright, D. Terlich, R. Sloane and N. Vardy doing very well in the place of others most of us had that did not perform. They were only let down by Martin, Roughy and JJ Kennedy. They appear to be the Smokey to snatch a grand final spot away from the Captain who have issues with Heppell, Cotchin and their ruck division I am expecting a boil over with a Sharks victory.

Has Been has issues with Hanley, Heppell, Shaw and Cotchin but I know he has trades left so should be able to work through it over the weekend as he does not have football to worry about. Whereas, Harrynuts has issues around Heppell, Cotchin and will need some cash in the bank if McEvoy is a late out. The outcome of this battle will depend upon the intricacies of the trading and Vice-Captain/Emergency movements across the weekend and should be close (I mean to say both teams still have Zorko). I will select Has Been if Shaw or Hanley play to triumph but it will be close.
