Boxheads Beauties 1,973 def 1,842 The Ginger Ninjas

There were some massive 'lifeline' wins this week with Poon Army leading the way with a comfortable victory that dumped the chardys on the bottom of the Premier League ladder. Hawkeye had an upset win over Squeaky that gives his season a real shot in the arm and congratulations to Brown Nosed Fev who was rewarded with several weeks of good scoring with an upset win over top eight side FOOTYLEDGENS.

darcy finally got his win as both himself and my REBCats had serious point drop offs during this round. The Crusaders ensured that dunKsKrew remain an extremely inconsistent combination and the Q Man has one foot back in Division I after he suffered an eighty point defeat at the hands of the reigning Champion. Boxhead took out the match of the round with both he and Gingernuts not scoring all that much. The story of Hogg Premier League so far this season is GordonBlues who is keen to make amends after letting an opportunity slip last seson. Gordy's victim this week was Parko whose Buddy and the boys were well beaten.

I would need to win 7-8 of the last 9 games to sneak into the top eight. Unlikely prospect. Just gotta lift myself from the foot of the ladder and away from relegation.

A 6 point win for the REBCats over The Cub in spite of no cover for Barlow and Gibbs' scoring spree. I pulled two trades this week and a loss would have been a disaster.

Gordy won the top of the table clash against Boxhead this week to go to 'the turn' unbeaten which is a very good effort in Hogg Premier League. Gordy is proving very hard to beat and has a happy knack of finishing in front week after week. In the other half of the draw it is the reigning premier Darksiders who tops the bill going in after seven at 6-1 and looking good things to retain his title. Cubby was dead stiff to lose to the REBCats by six points after Gibbs' gargantuan score nearly did the business for him as I got a donut for Barlow.

Poon Army paid a heavy price for underestimating a plucky Hawkeye who promptly knocked off the Poon and climbed into the top eight as a result. It was a bad week for dunKsKrew as they were smashed by the Q Man who is starting to mount a Hondoesque comeback. Dunks now finds himself back in tenth spot after sitting second on the ladder not so long ago. Bottom eight sides who scored important wins in Round seven include Buddy and the Boys and the Squeakeroos. Both of these sides have kept in touch with the pack. Gingernuts lost his first match whilist overseas on holidays - just ask Gordy how much life can interupt a Hogg Premier challenge. I mean come on, why go overseas when there is a Hogg Premier title to be won. I ask you!

Hogg Premier Round 8

darcy DTF vs Poon Army
FOOTYLEDGENS vs Squeakeroos
The Quiddities vs Buddy&TheBoys
Chicky's Crusaders vs Boxheads Beauties
Darksiders SCE vs GordonBlue
dunKsKrew vs The Ginger Ninjas
REBCats vs chardy socialists
Brown nosed Fev vs Hawkeye

The match of the season, let alone the week is the heavyweight blockbuster clash between the runaway leaders of Hogg Premier Darksiders and GordonBlues. Both teams have been the standout combinations of the last two years in Hogg Premier and if Gordon can defeat the Darksiders then it could be a signal that a changing of the guard is about to take place. With only one loss between them all season its fair to say that there aren't too many weaknesses in either side but I always get the feeling that Darksiders primes himself for finals action rather than minor round clashes in a Catlike fashion. For this reason I'm tipping that Gordy will remain unbeaten.

Most of the other matches in Hogg Premier are fairly tame by comparision. The match between Squeakeroos and FOOTYLEDGENS may just determine which one of these two sides qualifies for the finals as there may not be room for both. I think Cubbys side looks a little more settled and he'll keep the Squeakys out of the eight for another week. Pup's Crusaders look to have another tough match ahead of them in Boxhead who normaly starts dropping games about this time every season. Pup will be hoping history repeats or teams like Hawkeye and FOOTYLEDGENS will go right by him. When you are on a roll you can sometimes get thrown a bone and that's the case with Hawkeye who can consolidate his spot in the eight with a win over the struggling Brown Nosed Fev.

Two sides with finals aspirations in Q Man and Buddy and the Boys face off with four invaluable points up for grabs in a match neither side can afford to lose. I'm on Quichey here, but only just. Table neigbours dunKsKrew and Gingernuts are also starting to wonder where their next win might come from as dunKs scoring fest of earlier rounds appears to be well and truly over. I reckon dunKs might just salute here and avoid a totally unexpected drop into the relegation zone. Speaking of which - what a task the Poon has of getting out of unfamiliar waters. If he thought his half of the draw was tough now he faces the other half that has five of the top eight in it. All the best hammo ha ha. With no offence to finny, I'd rather be playing the chardys than facing up to darcy again.

I reckon 'Buddy and the Boys' would have Buddy as well. He is a mad Hawker after all.

Darksiders showed that he will not relinquish his championship rating in a hurry when he cleaned up GordonBlue (the world's first computer program designed to win SuperCoach matches) in the top of the table clash this week. In a possible Grand Final preview it's back to the drawing board for Blue as he attempts to find the 73 points he needs to turn the tables on Darksiders.

Boxhead has refused to repeat the script of the last two years and he's not going anywhere as he racked up 2359 to easily account for the Crusaders who are now clinging percariously to the top eight after some recent losses. darcy put a bit dent in the Poon Army's future as he dished out a 108 point victory despite Hammo getting quite a decent score. At 2-6 Hammo's thoughts now turn to avoiding the drop which is something I never thought I'd write about the 2007 winner. The Q man continued his revival by spanking Buddy and the Boys and he is now tantalisingly close to getting into the top eight. Squeakeroos are one step ahead of him though and he smashed the cub to send FOOTYLEDGENS out of the top eight and into a downward spiral.

Gingernuts cleaned up with a much needed victory as dunKsKrew is suddenly wondering where his next win is going to come from. Hawkeye meanwhile has snuck under the radar beautifully and is now sitting in a pretty good spot on the ladder after a slow start to the year. Interesting to note that even though there wasn't the massive scoring of Division I, no Hogg Premier teams scored under 2000 this week.

Hogg Premier Round 9

darcy DTF vs Squeakeroos
FOOTYLEDGENS vs Poon Army
The Quiddities vs Boxheads Beauties
Chicky's Crusaders vs Buddy&TheBoys
Darksiders SCE vs The Ginger Ninjas
dunKsKrew vs GordonBlue
REBCats vs Hawkeye
Brown nosed Fev vs chardy socialists

Match of the round in Hogg Premier is the replay of last year's Division I Grand final darcy vs. Squeakeroos. darcy is a credentialed SuperCoach but Squeaky has a better record over him than most and he normally arks up later on in the season. Both teams scored over 2300 last week and I'm tipping that Squeaky can maintain his mastery over darcy and end his winning run.

Another all top eight clash is REBCats vs. Hawkeye. If darcy is Squeaky's bitch then I'm Hawkeye's bitch as I have never beaten them in the Hogg Shield. This week the wheel will turn and I will have my REVENGE HA HA. Or maybe not the mongrel might beat me yet again. :(

At the ar5e end of the ladder Brown Nosed Fev takes on the chardies as both teams attempt to scramble away from the bottom of the ladder. Both teams seem destined for a relegation game in Round 19 but you would rather be playing the 14th ranked side than the 13th ranked side in the 'Elimination Final' and this game will go a long way to determining the spoon. Chardy appears to have done some recent work on his side so I'm selecting him to get off the bottom.

Perennial finalists Poon Army and FOOTYLEDGENS square off in a super important match for them both. Due to the closeness of the league neither are out of the hunt and the four points here would be a real tonic. I fancy Poon to win this one and my lad is not too happy with my prediction that he will be down with Mum in Division I next year LOL. Q Man's revival will be put on hold for a week as he won't be able to cope with the mighty Boxhead in full flight.

Chicky's Crusaders will want to win their match with Buddy and the Boys or they'll be out of the eight but the rest of the matches look fairly straightforward with wins to GordonBlue and Darksiders appearing to be a formality.

Results

dunKsKrew 2,488 GordonB 2,326
Hawkeye 2,485 REBCat 2,481
chardy socialists 2,120 BrownFev 1,986

There is a new leader in Hogg Premier League this week after dunKsKrew pulled off a sensational victory over GordonBlues who have now slumped to two successive defeats. dunKs racked up a massive 2488 to record an easy win over the Blues. Boxhead racked up an even bigger score to keep the Q Man in the wrong half of the ladder and I'm still wondering how I lost to Hawkeye after getting 2481!

Chicky's Crusaders lost by even less points than I did but he went up one place on the ladder after darcy cleaned up Squeakeroos (a bit like the Socceroos DOH). Poon Army joined dunks and Buddy and the Boys in keeping their season alive and chardys got off the bottom of the ladder at the expense of Brown Nosed Fev.

After nine rounds it is hard to see any of the top six teams missing the finals so that leaves two finals spots up for grab with eight teams fighting over them. The winners of this group play finals and the losers play in the relegation final in Round 19. That's how tight it is this year in Hogg Premier League.
