I think REB makes a great point about Andy Otten

I know people who got stung so badly by Malceski in 2009 that they avoided him in 2010 when he then turned into one of the key players of the year

The other difference apart from the knee injury for Otten compared to 2009 is that the Crows likely won't be as good a team (including not having Bock) so he may have to work harder to get the same stats.

We just have to watch his pre-season form. Don't just jump on because he's cheap.

In SC, the three most expensive players will be Goddard, Ablett and Swan

Which of these players will you be starting, if any?

Ablett I think needs to be monitored as he has a bye in round 1 and we don't know how he will score away from Geelong. After the round 9 bye he could be a good upgrade target for the run home.

Goddard is a lock if he is still listed as DEF. The other two will be upgrade targets for me.

Hondo I reckon you should put all three in your team right now.

This. Swan normally starts slow and what Ablett will get is anyone's guess. Ablett has both byes out of the way by Round 9 and Swan by Round 13. That's when you have a squiz in my book. I see Swan as an eventual lock but not so sure about Gaz.

I am actually planning to start Swan and Goddard but will have to see how the salary cap looks. Swan seems a contentious one based on forum discussions purely because of his price. Sometimes you just have to spend the money though to get the high scoring players but we only have $10m and those two could chew up $1.3m.

Goddard however will be a lock for most people.

Last year I had Gaz and ended up with Swan and Goddard. Goddard looks the one to start with this season.

Goddard is so consistent that hoping for a price dip can lead to you never getting him if you don't bite the bullet and start him. It's hard to bring in $600K+ players during the season.

It's what I am wondering about with Swan.

The other factor is that last year all the gun midfielders dropped around $100K from their starting price at some stage so whoever you start with will likely drop.

In all these premium midfielder plans we then have to consider the byes as well. ie, if you start Goddard you have to think about whether you start a Montagna or Dal Santo as well.

Judd remains good value in SuperCoach but isn't as great as a Dream Team option. A solid, if safe bet is Judd in SuperCoach and Kane Cornes in Dream Team. Judd will get off to a flyer as he normally cleans up the Tiggers and is a sound Round 1 captaincy choice. Beware of Bluebaggers though as they won't be available for the Prelim Final due Carlton having the bye that week. Strong bench cover is required if you get on Judd because he is a keeper.

Say.....do you want to join our league. ;)

Gary Ablett looks to be a prime upgrade target in Round 10. His preseason has been compromised by a groin injury and he won't play in the NAB. I reckon he's a monty to suffer a price drop in the early part of the season as he comes to term with his new football environment and now with the added factor of the disrupted pre-season he's looking very good for a Round 10 trade in after Gold Coast has their second bye.

This is exactly why I'm not starting with Swan, I am hoping to pick him up for 550k while others pay over the odds. So many obvious improvers in this year's playing group in multiple positions. You could almost get away with a no premium strategy this year or maybe Goddard, Sandi, St Nick and a Judd as a max. High risk but high reward.

Anyone got a list of players returning from LTIs that either didn't play last year, or played very little?

Off the top of my head

A Otten
J Adcock
J Drummond
D Kerr
D Petrie

Or any player on Fanplanner that has a discount next to them. All of the players above carry a large element of risk. A lot will jump on Petrie but he stuffed his feet last year al a Croad/Egan so buyer beware.

I was keen on Petrie before but now I have gone cold on him. Apparently he will be playing mostly at full forward so that's not good for his scoring.

If can stay on the field he'll be worth it. He'll make money for you as he is priced at what, 220 or something? Josh Fraser at a similar price is probably the better option.
