I needed abit of luck and finally got it.

It was more a decision I made for a cash league I'm in, where my opponent didn't have Ablett, so I looked to counter his captain choice and beat him in the areas I thought I could (had a weak fwd line).
I was worried the Hawks might put some time into him too. They didn't. Lol
At the end of the day, I got through in the cash league ($30 league), so not completely unhappy.
Missed Hogg promotion as a result but WLF has been the more consistent player, deserved to win on that basis.
Right in front of me. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!

Hogg Division III Finals Preview

1st Preliminary Final Harrynutts vs. Backyarders

The seemingly indestructible Backyarders will face the toughest challenge of their Hogg career when he takes on the number one ranked team in the Hogg in the 1st Preliminary Final. Backyarders spent the majority of the minor round fending off relegation but since then they have overcome top opposition to earn promotion to Division II. While this is pretty impressive that is not nearly as impressive as the achievements of Harrynutts who have only lost 4 matches in their two year Hogg Shield career. Somehow pels’ Backyarders need to find even more points than he has pulled out in recent weeks and the challenge of toppling the top team in the Hogg may be beyond him. Harrynutts should win this one and progress to the Grand Final.

2nd Preliminary Final TEAM_FISH vs. WLF

TEAM_FISH are one of the leading contenders for the ‘Dutchy’ award for the most improved team in the Hogg Shield this year and he could probably clinch this title if he can get over the formidable WLF in the 2nd Preliminary Final. WLF have been a dominant force all year in Division III despite not being right up the top of the ladder for most of the season. WLF copped a tough loss to Harrynutts in the Quallie but rebounded strongly to eliminate Sunny Palm Pilots last week and he’ll need to play even better to beat FISH who has had a very strong year. In a match that is almost too close to tip I’m going with WLF to win this final and catch FISH out.

The "battle of the capital letters" game between TEAM_FISH and WLF looks very evenly matched.

Losing J Selwood has not helped me.

A lot will depend on whether the rumoured late withdrawals happen if they do I reckon I'm gone, as WLF has much better bench cover than me...

Cheers WLF you too.

Have taken a punt on Beams as captain and hoping he smashes it up whilst Gazza takes the field but is subbed off with the flu after 5 minutes.

Unfortunately it looks like you're gone pels :(

Meanwhile TEAM_FISH is on life support but I still rate myself a small chance to knock off the mighty WLF:

TEAM_FISH: 223points + Murdoch + Firrito
WLF: Chapman + Lake + Fyfe + Walker + Jacobs

I probably need one of WLF's remaining players to spud it up big time to win...

Lake isn't playing so WLF gets Buggs 51. So it's now:

TEAM_FISH: 172points + Murdoch + Firrito
WLF: Chapman + Fyfe + Walker + Jacobs

The favourites got up in the Division III Prelim Finals thus ends the fairy tale of the Backyarders and the FISH tail as well. WLF have been looking pretty solid but they'll remain friendless with the bookies in the non existent Hogg betting markets as they take on the mighty Harrynuts who will be keen to win their first Hogg premiership after their famous choke in the Bunny Bowl Grand Final last year.

Congrats to macca26 and WLF who will both be participating in Champions League as well as Division II next season (remembering of course that FISH and Backyarders are also promoted to Division II).

Statistically, Division II was easier than Division III this year. There isn't really a lot between II-IV tbh. It's once you get to Division I where it gets a bit nasty. ;)

Pels, great effort mate.
Before the weekend your side looked pretty good on paper and it deserved to be a lot closer game.
Look forward to battling it out in Div 2 with you next year.

Harrynutts meets WLF in a final for the third time this year. (One in Pineapple league).

Harrynutts v WLF (Prior to trades)
Enright v M Johnson
Hurn v Waters
Shaw v Birchall
Carazzo v Lake
Cotchin v Kennedy
Priddis v Boyd
Dal Santo v S Selwood
Murphy v Pendlebury
Natanui v Cox
Goodes v Chapman
Martin v Walker

Goodluck WLF, should be tight.
Well provided I don't choke like last year :Hangman:

Thats almost funny as I won the Pineapple league and would have preferred this one.
Maybe next year we can swap?
