TEAM_FISH and Harrynutts have earnt promotion to Hogg Division II next season after scoring excellent wins in two high standard qualifying finals. I wasn't confident at all when I had a look at FISH's excellent forward line and despite several Empire stars really racking up the points the donut from Chappy and the decision to bench Lake proved decisive. Well done FISH you have had an excellent season this year and you are a much improved Hogg coach. Harrynutts isn't improved - he has merely continued on from the excellent standard he displayed in his Rookie season as he went unbeaten all year in the Bunny only to lose the Grannie to Pump up ze Jams.

With two spots left to earn in Division II our attention is now focussed on the completed finals and those that are to come. THE BLOODS were on paper the weakest team to make the eight in this division and they were duly dispatched by On Song's Sunny Palm Pilots who will prove a real handful for the defeated WLF who could incredibly remain in Division III next year if he can't drop the Pilots. pels' backyarders meanwhile is that thing that should not be as they have been standing next to an open grave on many occasions this year but the Backyarders refuse to read the script. Backyarders ended the season of the highly fanced Crab Mustard who had a shocker this weekend to get knocked out of Champions and Division III leagues. While Crabby will prove to be a real handful in Division III next year Backyarders will now face the Empire on the rebound with hopefully one of Chapman or Porps back on board to bolster our scoring.

Remember that my Empire cannot be promoted so the promotion scenario is as follows...

The Cat Empire vs. Backyarders (41038)
WLF (43499) vs. Sunny Palm Pilots (42070)

Empire, WLF win - WLF, Pilots go up unless Backyarders can outscore them by 1032 points.
Empire, Pilots win - Pilots, WLF go up unless Backyarders can outscore them by 2461 points!
Backyarders, WLF win - both go up
Backyarders, Pilots win - both go up

If Chappy and Porps come back I give myself a pretty good chance of making it two zip against you pels. ;) If they both miss again it's party time for the backyarders.

Hogg Division III Finals Preview

1st Semi Final The Cat Empire vs. Backyarders

Pels and his Backyarders have come from almost the relegation zone to be a contender for the Hogg Division III title after cleaning up the highly rated Crab Mustard last week. This week the Backyarders face an even tougher opponent in the form of the Minor Premier Cat Empire who will be hell bent on avoiding a straight sets exit from the finals race. The winner gets a tough Prelim against the awesome Harrynutts side.

With four teams to go up from this division this is a match that Backyarders must win so there is little margin for error. The Empire is of course focused on what needs to happen in the Premier League so this makes me a little vulnerable to ambush in the lower grades, not that I’ve got any trades to play with anyhow. The Backyarders and the Empire have fought rear guard actions to remain in the hunt so perhaps pels is in a similar boat to me in regards to trades. Pels got over the line against an undermanned Crabby but with Chapman back I’m backing the Empire to get the job done and end the Backyarders’ season and consign them to another year in Division III in 2013. The Backyarders trail Sunny Palm Pilots by over 1000 points in the scoring so far this season so this is a match that pels must win in order to go up.

2nd Semi Final WLF vs. Sunny Palm Pilots

In the second Semi the Sunny Boys will face a stern test before they can advance to the Preliminary Final in the form of big scoring WLF who was outgunned by a very impressive Harrynutts outfit last week. The Sunny Boys had a soft final against THE BLOODS but all of a sudden it gets a bit tougher for On Song. WLF didn’t get his act together earlier in the year to accept the offered Division II promotion but he hasn’t done a whole lot wrong since and he is one of the leading teams in the Hogg Shield this season and he looks far too strong for Sunny Palm Pilots.

The Sunny Boys started off trying to be conservative with trades but a slow start by them saw them turn up the heat in order to remain competitive in this very tough league that is ranked higher than Division II this season. The reward for promotion is that you can avoid the gun teams coming up from Division IV such as Ecky and Stazza AND get into a softer division next year. If the Empire gets up this week then both of these teams will go up so it will be nice to have someone cheering me on ha ha. I think that WLF will win this one but Sunny Boys will earn the promotion by a TKO on points anyway. The winner of this final will play against TEAM_FISH for the right to progress to the Grand Final.

I was beaten by WLF in a high-scoring encounter earlier this year.
I know he has the arsenal to be very dangerous on his day.
Hoping the players I have selected with finals in mind can turn it on.

I was thinking of Dangerfield but the last time they played, Raines went to him instead of Thomo and he only scored 70 odd!

The dust has settled in the Division III Semi Finals and the end result is not good for the Sunny Boys. The defeated Sunny Boys needed my Cat Empire to defeat Backyarders in the 1st Semi to be promoted to Division II but despite leading the match for most of the weekend, pels finished up a 32 point winner to send the Empire out in straight sets. WLF finally won through to Division II the hard way after defeating the Sunny Palm Pilots and both teams are deserved winners and Division II participants.

Looking ahead the 'team that cannot die', Backyarders now face Harrynutts who have a scary looking aura about them right now. Surely pels can pull that one off? WLF will play against TEAM_FISH in what should be a high quality match next week. The prize on offer for the winning Preliminary Finalists is the chance to play in next year's Hogg Champions League which makes Division III look like the Bunny Bowl.

Bugger.
Lance Franklin plays, I make Ablett captain, things could have gone my way.
Could have created an EMG in the forward line too with some MPP shuffling.
Only myself to blame.

Congrats WLF
