I put out an EOI for a Divvy III writer and no one answered the call.

I liked the look of his side a lot more when I played him in Divvy II a couple of weeks ago than the stronger looking side I'm currently 200 points behind this morning!

Hah, had you worried for a while there! Pitty I did and Adelaide and went to sleep in the second half.

Yep, I thought I'd jump on Giansiracusa and Stevens at their current bargain basement prices, very good replacements for the average Dale Thomas and Malceski. Despite the loss last week I'm pretty happy with the squad at the moment, especially with the prospect of Bock and Higgins returning this week. My only temptation at the moment is to get rid of Lucas for the emerging Nahas to give some forward line depth, but my trades are dwindling fast. Need to pick up a win soon though to stay in touch with the 8.

Yeah Lucas blows hard but I don't reckon you've got all that many trades left. My guess would be ten tops. Gia actually dropped another 600 bucks this week but seriously, Stevens is a spud.

So what would be the minimum amount of trades you'd wanna have left at this stage. I'm guessing that, being only a third of the way through the minor rounds, you'd want to at least be double figures and anything above 12 is reasonable.

That maybe, but he's a better Spud than Malceski, and less likely to be dropped also. He scored 80 on the weekend which isn't too bad.

This is the dilemma. To get Ablett back I need to do 1 this week (cash grab) and then 1 when his price is right (Rich-Ablett). That will leave me with 12.

If I splurge and swap Krakouer-Franklin this week then I will be down to 11 after Ablett. Not sure if I will worry about Buddy yet though.

The guy who runs the Your SuperCoach Coach website says ideally more than half your trades left after round 11. However I am pretty sure he will be lucky to have 10 left by then LOL. REB, what you say?

It also depends on your injury run although over on BF some guys are burning trades down below 10. When questioned, most blame injuries yet if you look closley at what they are doing it's actually unnecessary trading that's killing them. Yes, they have some guns in their team but they are stuck with blokes like Barham and Macaffer on their benches.

I reckon with the injuries so far this year already, you will have an advantage later in the year if you have trades up your sleeve.

In answer to everyone's musings that it seems like there are more injuries this year than ever before - you may be right:

LMAO, you should see the carrots on my bench - not too many cash cows in there!

I guess the aim is to keep trades in case of injury, but you also want have the ability to upgrade players closer to finals and strengthen your team. I'm content with dropping a couple of games early on in order to do this, as I have my eye on a player from each line (except ruck) that I'd like to upgrade at some point.

The dilemma is when your team may not even make the finals, which is where I'm at. What's the point of having trades up your sleave if you're not even there at the business end??

I have managed to built a decent side that may now make the finals after a poor start and some bad luck with injuries, but now my remaining trades are under double figures which isn't good.....

I reckon that 'more than half your trades by Round 11' is bullshit. It depends on the strength of your league, the current injury situation and how good your original team selection was in terms of picking the right cash cows.

This is why that first team selection is so important. I had a few wins with

Broughton
Dawson
Ziebell
Rich
Beams
Walker
M Brown
Higgins
Krakoeur

But I stuffed up with

Tuck (playing injured and not getting points)
Cousins (in hindsight a terrrible decision. Wish I had gone Haselby instead)
Raines (out OUCH)
Ottens (out OUCH. But it looked a great move after 175 in round one!).
Masten (read too much Sandgroper hype)

But my remedial trades since then have redressed weaknesses in my lineup. My view is that you should have five trades by finals time. You trade to make the finals but need trades in August to win them. As Gingernuts says, no point in having trades up your sleeve if you aren't in the top eight at the end of the year.

The guy who suggests 12 trades after eleven is probably sitting at 2-3 and he's missed out on upgrading some players as well. It's a brave resolve, I prefer getting the runs on the board early and trying to hang on.

REB sez....5 for finals.

REB, he said at least half of the trades still left by round 11 ideally - so 10-11. But, as I said, I reckon they will be lucky to have 10 left themselves by the sounds!

I stress about what the right number is because I have been planning on 5 for the finals. Then maybe 2 between now and then for long term injuries? So then the dilemma I have is how hard to go with what's left over.

I am hoping to have 10-11 left once round 11 is completed basically. That gives me 4-5 to use between rounds 12 and 17 before the finals.

Too conservative?

I think you'll be right in Divvy II mate. Not many gun sides in that comp. You should go on and win it.

We think the same, that is about what I was aiming for. Strengthen my defence, get Ablett back and ride into the finals with a few trades left.

Got another tough game this week, up against Darcy, who still has one of the best sides in the league. Q Before You is as follows:

B: Gilbert, C Cornes, Newman
HB: Gilbee, Mackie, Hurn
C: J Selwood, K Cornes, Rich
HF: S Johnson, Pavlich, J Brown
F: Rioli, Krakouer, Ziebell
R: Cox, Bartel, Judd
INT: Hill, Higgins, McIntosh, Walker

IN: Newman
OUT: Petterd

Finally did something about Petterd - you are goneski, son - upgraded to Newman. Still got Didak sitting on the sidelines. In future weeks will look to upgrade K Cornes (to Ablett?) and Krakouer (to ???).
