Mm I think Hogg relegation/promotion should be more aggressive to help promote league rankings.

There's teams in Div 1 & 2 that wont finish in the top 100'000..... I know REB wants to reward the coaches that have been with Hogg since it got going, but I really dont think these coaches will give a sh!t if they are relegated.

Actually, now that I look at it, perhaps Hogg Champions should be based on Top 18 highest scorers.

Or create a new league, Hogg Elite League.

I tend to agree.

However, the top 18 from last year certainly won't be anywhere near the 6th placed that league I posted above would be. (Hindsight is a wonderful thing!).

Trying to work it out based on the current scores from last season's top 18 (noting a few teams have either left or changed names), and you get something closer to this:

Last year rank, team name, total score, This year rank, team name, score
1 Harrynutts 50960 15 Harrynutts 8853
2 The Spuds 50892 45 Spuds 8652
3 WLF 50721 ??
4 Longwood Lions 50498 55 Longwood Lions 8578
5 sharks 50482 70 sharks 8432
6 Don't Drop Catches 50309 ??
7 Captain Who? 50244 9 Captain Who? 8911
8 Darksiders SCE 50239 18 Darksiders SCE 8817
9 Has Been 50172 31 Has been 8710
10 Hodges_Heros 50001 ??
11 Ecky's Fevolas 49967 26 Eckys Fevolas 8735
12 MILLER MOSQUITOES 49892 11 MILLERS MOSQUITOES 8894
13 Les's Men 49795 33 Les's Men 8706
14 Big Al's Big Boys 49794 ??
15 cdfcdevils 49741 77 cdfcdevils 8322
16 Hzlwood Pk Cowboys 49676 38 Rack City Cowboys 8689 - ??
17 Boongas Bulldogs 49652 82 Boongas Bulldogs 8253
18 Underdogs 49641 29 Underdogs 8724
19 Marion ManBearPigs 49609 44 Marion ManBearPigs 8654
20 Buddy Franklin 49496 63 Buddy Franklin 8483
21 Crab Mustard FC 49491 76 Crab Mustard FC 8332
22 Rumcoks 49439 ??
23 The Cat Empire 49409 ??

24 Q Before You 49393 37 Q Before You 8695

So for those 18, you get an average of 2158.89 which would push them miles outside the top 6!

I was thinking of omitting the Piglet and Bunny Bowl Premiers from the HCL for next year but let's face it, last year's guns aren't necessarily this year's guns as some scoring has shown. Add to that our best eighteen coaches still won't crack it for a top league ranking because we don't have a large enough pool of coaches to compete with the likes of Big Footy.

As for the promotion/relegation system. While it's true I agree with rewarding coaches who have remained loyal to the Hogg, the current relegation system was actually voted in following an election we had of Hogg Shield participants back in 2011.

With the amount of coaches leaving the Hogg each year, especially poorer ones, you'll find that the relegation system is more than just two up/four up and two down/four down than was decided upon in the election.

Anyone who is a gun SuperCoach and wants to play in a better league should be heading to BigFooty. As the years go by the Hogg is more and more becoming (with some exceptions) a safooty comp. And the rankings are going up but obviously not as fast as some would like. ;)

Rumcoks are still Rumcoks but not in the Hogg. Wish I was, but will rejoin at some lower level. Again hindsight is a wonderful thing.

My score: 9201

but like REB will say, Hogg or GTFO!

I wondered who was going the other way to make it so easy for me to go from 16th to 3rd!

Ah well, my turn next week to go 3rd --> 31st! haha

Rankings don't mean much at this stage of the season - decisions like whether to play Viney or O'Meara on the field this week was enough to change your Hogg ranking by 15 places alone.

At this stage, the amount of cash a team has made so far is a much better predictor of its true strength and hence season finishing position than its current Hogg ranking.

Voice of reason :D
Long season.
Byes will sort out plenty, don't think hardly anyone is planning for them.
Plenty thinking it's okay to trade sideways because we have an extra 6 trades this year.

I think I recall reading though that the byes are a little more forgiving this year compared to seasons past with only 18 players being able to score points.

More forgiving certainly. Your top scoring 18 players on the field (not emergencies) all count regardless of position. Will still be plenty of teams only starting 14-16 players on the field some weeks. Especially Round 13 - most midfields will be decimated with Ablett, Pendlebury, Swan, Dangerfield, Thompson, Murphy, Judd, Watson and others all having the bye. 8)

That starts the age old argument of whether to forego loading up on players from a certain bye group beacuse you will cop a heap of donuts regardless of whether they are the highest averaging players in the game.
The problem is having to burn trades to get them in after the bye though and seriously how much effort was put into setting up a team for the byes last year just to be hit by injuries and late withdrawls, made the exercise irrelevant in the end

Who really cares what your league ranks?

I'm sucking at the moment as I'm getting 2+ injuries a week, so I'm constantly trading to fill holes rather than improve my team.

All I want is the W every week.

Yep. The Hogg Shield is a head to head competition. Rankings are for those that honestly believe they can take home the 50k. My team is going like yours Matteeee and I'm after one thing...four points!
