The Q Man has excelled himself in the opening round with a very healthy 2423 to start the season which sees him lead the Premier League scoring charts after the first round. Hammo and Squeaky nearly repeated the dose and eight coaches topped 2300 so a huge season is on the way. Dutchy and wycbloods have some rearranging to do after failing to flatter and SuperCoach king Alaska also had a quiet start to the year.

Week Two Team Rankings

1 MILLERS MOSQUITOES 4722 2271
2 Squeakeroos DTC 4609 2393
3 Q Before You 4572 2423
4 Poon Army 4553 2394
5 Darksiders SCE 4528 2312
6 Underdogs 4450 2303
7 Hawkeye 4443 2218
8 chardy socialists 4438 2259
9 Captain Who? 4431 2253
10 Texas Danger SSC 4430 2310
11 REBCats 4421 2310
12 Spuds 4362 2202
13 Richo Richo Man 4349 2156
14 Longwood Lions 4303 2092
15 Cork in the Ocean 4295 2315
16 The Ginger Ninjas 4253 2241
17 Dutchys Dodos 3862 1983
18 Buddyroughhawks 3848 1935

Once again it appears that it is MILLER time with the Mozzies jumping out to an early lead scoring over 2400 when most coaches this week didn't get to 2200. Squeaky is also looking pretty sharp early doors and Hawkeye reaped the benefits of having a Hawkfest after their unexpected win at Subiaco. Already Dutchy and wycbloods are looking like easy kills unless both are playing possum prior to the kick off for the head to head matches which is next week.

Round 1 Previews

Poon Army v MILLER MOSQUITOES
These two teams are amongst the top scorers in the Premier League over the pre-season period but that won’t count for anything for the loser. MILLERS racked up a huge score over the weekend and he should go on to open his account for the season. MILLERS MOSQUITOES to fly off with the points .

Cork in the Ocean v The Ginger Ninjas
Corky scored very well in the first round but the Ninjas have failed to flatter this season and look to be underdone at this stage of the year which suggests that Gingernuts has not put together a strong starting squad. Gingernuts will have tougher matches than this one but it is Corky who has drawn the Ninjas and he should get the four points. Cork in the Ocean to bob up with a win .

Underdogs v chardy socialists
The socialists are looking pretty sharp so far this year but you can never discount the scoring ability of the Underdogs. The chardy socialists have struggled for most of their Premier League career but seem to have stepped it up a notch this season as they must. Despite this the Underdogs have gone about what they do best, scoring competitive totals. I expect the Underdogs to win this and leave the chardys in the doghouse.

Hawkeye v Longwood Lions
The Lions normally roar loudest at the business end of the season and appear vulnerable against a Hawk-laden Hawkeye combination. If Hawthorn can replicate last week’s win against the Eagles against Collingwood (a team they beat easily twice last year), then Woggy could ride all the way on the back of Clarkson’s men for an unexpected victory. I think the Hawks will rack up good numbers again and that Hawkeye will swoop on the points.

Richo Richo Man v Darksiders SCE
Last season CoverKing overtook the Darksiders in the rankings but so far this season the Dark Side look to have the force with them. Richo Richo has had an understated build up and while they scored more last week than the week before but I don’t believe that they can overcome the difference in time to rack up a first round win against the perpetually prepared Darksiders. Darksiders will win this one and leave Richo Richo Man in the dark.

Q Before You v Buddyroughhawks
The Q Man is up and about early so far this season but the same cannot be said for wycbloods’ Buddyroughhawks. The Buds are averaging less than two thousand points per week and it might take more than the two trades available to fix that mess. Q Man couldn’t have asked for a softer start to the year and they’ll make mincemeat of the Buddyroughhawks. Q Man to win this game and head the Q after round one.

Captain Who? v REBCats
The Captain will be keen to exact revenge on the Cats after they were defeated by them at their last start. The Captain of course went on to bigger and better things after that game and as the defending champion deserve to go in favourites in this match after outscoring them in the pre-season. The Captain will salute in this first match with a narrow win over the REBCats.

Texas Danger SSC v Dutchys Dodos
The Dodos are a bird that always seems to be a bit slow getting off the nest and judging by their scoring efforts so far in 2013 this season will be no different. Dutchy’s scoring is down there with the Buddyroughhawks so far this year and that means an easy kill could be on the way for Hondo. I’m tipping that it will be Texas that holds em with more than just a lone star.

Spuds v Squeakeroos DTC
The Spuds were the number one seed going into this year’s Hogg Premier League comp but it is Squeaky who have started the season in red hot form. The Squeakeroos have been smashing it in the scoring and trail only Q Man in the scoring and Jared looks set for a big season. Spuddy hardly lost a game last year in Division I but faces a tough initiation into Premier League play. Squeakeroos will Squeak by the Spuds in an appealing opener.

My kiss of death status as a Hogg Premier tipster remained unscathed as a heap of 'upsets' occured in the first round of head to head action. After leading the Hogg after two rounds the MOSQUITOES were slapped aside by the Poon Army. Two time premier Darksiders were pipped by CoverKing's Richo Richo Man and the unheralded Buddyroughhawks jumped the Q in the upset of the round. The Squeakeroos who were also scoring heavily failed to do so when it mattered as The Spuds failed to live up to their name with a solid first round victory.

The reigning premier topped the scoring to record a percentage booster over yours truly (mutter mutter when will I get a 'soft' early draw ACK) but at least I managed to score reasonably well. The same can't be said of The Ginger Ninjas who won't be winning too many matches in the Premier League with scores of 2016. So far it's me and Ginge in the relegation zone and hopefully it won't take me seven weeks to get out of there this year.

Dutchy came to play but was an unlcuky loser to the Texan but perhaps the chardys were the unluckiest loser of the lot when they went down to a mere 12 points to the best female player in the Hogg, Underdogs. Hawkeye broke a run of successive Premier League losses when they defeated the highly rated Lions but the toast of the Premier League tonight is Cork in the Ocean who has bobbed up after the first round of matches.

I had Kruze and Varcoe with the dreaded early game red vest so I'd actually have been dirty if I had lost. I don't recall ever having two red crosses in the first quarter in the same game before.

yeah i had varcoe and my opponent had neither of Kreuzer or Varcoe. I also had Wines on the bench cause i was very wary of him being the sub and around 1pm on triple m they said they were hearing Wines may be the sub. cost my a few points but can't do much about that.

Happy with the win first up!

O'Meara is the one doing my head in. Played him twice and he got less points than the one week I didn't play him! Not too much choice this week either with Kommer looking likely to get outed.

The rolling lockout was my friend this week

I had Hill on field and Wines on the bench because of rumours Wines would be the sub.

With about 2 minutes to go before Hill was locked on field I found out Wines was not the sub and then switched him on field. Dutchy would have beaten me otherwise.

I won all my leagues this week, but Zorko the Not-so-Magnificant is on the verge of being traded.

Round 2 Preview

Captain Who? v Squeakeroos – Match of the Round
This week’s Premier League match of the round sees the all-conquering Captain Who? up against Squeakeroos who were put on the back foot by the Spuds last week. Squeaky flew through the preseason and if he can return to that level of scoring then the Captain will have his hands full. Dustin Martin was an important player for the Captain last week but I’m tipping that he won’t get 150 against the Pies and that makes this match a close one. I’ll stand by my Captain o Captain though and select Captain Who to win this one.

The Ginger Ninjas v Poon Army
The Ninjas currently sit at the foot of the Premier League ladder and things won’t get any easier this week as they take on the might of the Poon Army. The Army is fresh from their round one kill of MILLERS MOSQUITOES and will accept this tasty little morsel and advance to 2 zip. Troy won’t like this but I’m tipping him this week. The Army to march on .

MILLER MOSQUITOES v chardy socialists
Two round one losers square off in this important match with the chardies the unluckier of the two sides in round one copping a 12 point defeat. MILLERS were Varcoed last week and suffered a defeat at the hands of the Poon Army and will be looking to bounce back and square the ledger. The chardies are scoring well so far this season but the bar keeps being raised in this league and once again victory appears to be out of reach. MILLERS to get on the board .

Cork in the Ocean v Longwood Lions
Alaska’s nerve will be put to test here as he cannot afford to drop another game to a side that finished outside the top eight last year. Corky started his season off in flying fashion smashing Gingernuts and headed to the top of the class as a result. He is most fortunate to meet the mighty Lions early on and an opportunity exists here for Corky to stake his claim as a top eight side this season. I’m tipping Cork in the Ocean in this match as the Longwood Lions are yet to gather any momentum so far this season.

Underdogs v Darksiders SCE
This match pits a narrow winner against a narrow loser with the Darkside pretty keen to avoid an unwanted burger ring in the W column after two weeks. The Underdogs didn’t score as highly as predicted last week but managed to fall over the line against the luckless chardies. Darksiders suffered a close loss to Richo Richo Man who is seeking to take over the Darkside as the most respected Hogg Premier side but he actually needs to win flags to do that. In this match I’m thinking that the Darkside will rebound and square the ledger in what should be again another close match.

Hawkeye v Buddyroughhawks
Both of these sides struggled last season but they’ve started off the New Year with impressive victories. Buddyroughhawks turned back the clock to the 2011 season while Hawkeye has made a good start to the year as he always seems to do. This is a real toss of the coin job and it came up heads. This means roughead, roughhawks…um…er…Buddyroughhawks to win. Stuffed if I know really with this one. It’s going to be a real closey.

Richo Richo Man v REBCats
The impressive Richo Richo man is fresh from a kill against the Darkside and faces easier opposition this week in the REBCats who sit second last on the table. Scoring wise there isn’t much in it but I have a horrendous record against CoverKing even though the matches are pretty much even. Unfortunately for my mob, some poor early season performers have put me on the back foot and I can’t see the REBCats winning this. Richo Richo Man by 40 odd points.

Q Before You v Dutchys Dodos
Both sides suffered losses in the first round with the Q Man hit particularly hard by injuries. Dutchy’s side came out to play once four points were up for grabs but couldn’t quite get the chocolates. I’m normally not one to select Dutchy early on in the season and I’m anticipating that last year’s Grand Finalist Q Man will pull all the right moves this week at the selection table. With a bit more room for scoring improvement evident, I’m tipping Q Before You to emerge victorious.

Texas Danger SSC v Spuds
Tex was hoping to fly under the radar this year but the Spuds excelled at this after a quiet pre-season turned into an unexpected victory over the high scoring Squeakeroos. Matty is the king of winning minor round matches and Hondo will have his hands full trying to stop the Spuds from recording back to back victories. In what should be an absolute ripper of a game I’m tipping the Spuds to remain unbeaten.

Five winners last week, this week I’m hoping for eight. 8)

Regards,

Pretty happy that hawkeye didn't make the most of his 168 from Swan as the VC.

Should be about 60 behind with 2 players in hand.

Should be hawkeye + about 60 with Rockliff and Luenberger
