Re: Hogg Champions League2013

Postby Alaska » Thu Apr 11, 2013 2:40 pm

As usual I am a little slow off the blocks and I have missed the start so my POD analysis is after round 2 so some corrective trades may already have been made.

Some general comments on the squads selected this year for Champions league are:

O’Meara is in all teams
Goddard and Viney are in every team but cdfcdevils
B. Goodes is in every team but wlf
Gibbs is in every team but cdfcdevils and wlf (getting the drift?)
Stevenson and Macaffer in 15 teams
Wines, Blicavs and Karnezis in 14 teams
Pittard and Rockliff in 13 teams
Ablett, Cox and Neade in 12 teams
Bartel is in 11 teams
Pendles, JP Kennedy and Franklin in 9 teams
Swan only in 4 teams
Watson only in 3 teams
Delidio is only in Millers team after starting in 11 teams in Division 1 last year.
The starting rucks are by far the most varied and apart from Cox the biggest POD between teams

Round 1 Predictions

Rack City Cowboys vs Q Before You

The Cowboys POD’s of Cotchin, Bennell, Roughy, Martin and Dwyer have been underperforming so far and add B Hill to this and they are in a world of pain in this first game.
Q’s POD’s of Ablett, Mundy, Goldstein, WCE Kennedy and Cox are all firing so should win easily and show the Div 5 winner from last season some Premier polish.

The Hotshots vs Richo Richo Man

This game has many differentiators, Heater has POD’s of Hibberd, Houli, J Russell, Watson, Ablett, Jack, Moloney, Rich, Ryder Leunberger, WCE Kennedy, S Reid, Watts and Kanezis and an array of others on his bench such as Staker, L Ball, S. Mayes and J Daniher that could bite him as the season unfolds.
Cover King has POD’s of Pittard, Adcock, Stevenson, Pendles, Cotchin, Fyfe, Murphy, Lucas, Jacobs Roughy, Bartel, Rockliff, Franklin and Martin. Once again the experienced Premier League campaigner should easily account for the Bunny Bowl winner from last year.

Longwood Lions vs sharks

Two teams that were only separated by 16 points at the end of last year have again started off together only being 9 points apart.
The Lions POD’s are Heppell, Taylor, Watson, Mundy, Greene, Wines, Jacobs, Roughy, Rockliff and Zorko.
Whereas Spiro’s team has POD’s of Pittard, Suban, Ablett, Swan, Moloney, Dangerfield, Kreuzer, Cox, Martin and Varco
I think it will come down to a Watson v Ablett tussle with Jobe winning out and doubling the difference to give the Lions the win.

The Ginger Ninjas vs white line fever

Two very different teams line up where it is easier to list the common players, being Goddard, Ablett, O’Meara, Wines, Viney, Jacobs, Pav and Karnezis than the POD’s the Ninja’s seem to have settled earlier than WLF and look to have this one won.
It would appear that white line fever has let the new location affect his scoring and he needs to concentrate on AFL not NRL.

Ecky's Fevolas vs Crockocrack

The Fevolas fresh from a GF win in Div 4 take on the losing GF team from Div 5 from last year. Ecky’s POD’s are Pittard, Pendles, Fyfe, Moloney, Rischitelli, Jacobs, Varcoe and Byrnes look to be too good for Crockocrack’s POD’s of Terlich, Swan Redden, Embly, Kommer, Leuenberger, Bartel and Roughy.
The Fevolas in a close one

Has Been vs Greedy Guns

Last years Champions League runner Has Been up takes on Greedy Guns fresh from both Div 2 and Div 6 wins last season. Has Beens’ POD’s of Heath, Newman , Pendels, Syd Kennedy, Fyfe, Ryder, Rockliff, WCE Kennedy, Roughy and Zorko compare to The Guns POD’s of Birchal, Russell, Swan, Cotchin, Dangerfield, Jacobs, Franklin, Dwyer, Pav and Vickery.
I think Has Been with his very high Hogg winning % of over 81 percent will win this one

harrynutts vs Darksiders SCE

Last year’s highest scorer in the Hogg harrynutts takes on the Premier Division Heavyweight Darksiders who has POD’s of Malceski, Terlich, Syd Kennedy, Swan, Dangerfield, Leuenberger, Bartel and Franklin the Nutts POD’s are Grimes, Hartlet, Mundy, Murphy, Mitchell, McEvoy, Chapman and Martin. Harry is not used to loosing with a brilliant Hogg winning percentage of over 84 percent but I think the Darkside has his measure in this contest.

MILLER MOSQUITOES vs cdfcdevils

The Premier League Mosquitos have blasted out of the blocks this season and look unbeatable early on and must be Champions League favorites this year, take on the cdfcdevils who made it into this competition after making the Div 2 GF last year. The Devils POD’s are Birchel, Enright, Cotchin, Gaff, Jacobs, Jamar, WCE Kennedy, Franklin, Varcoe and Robinson and are up against the Mosquito fleets of Gibbs, Goddard, Pendels, Delideo, Kreuzer, Leuenberger, Rockliff, Cox, Lewis and Martin. Millers POD’s are in better form early in the season and should win easily.

Spuds vs Captain Who?

Spuds who was a grand finalist in Div 1 last year meet the reigning Premier League titleholder in Captain Who? for a match of the round encounter.
The POD’s that will decide the day are:
Spuds: Hanley, Yarran, Watts, Ablett, Fyfe, Stevens, Mumford, Ryder, WCE Kennedy, Roughy and Varcoe
Captain Who?: Heppell, Hartlet, Heath, Syd Kennedy, Barlow, Cotchin, Dangerfield, McEvoy, Jacobs, Wright and Dwyer.
I think this will be a very close match and go down to the wire or maybe even the Captain choice. Spuds just.

AAAAARRRR...... you must be a boy from the East Coast I was heavily involved with them years ago.

(And I have an aversion to the Adelaide District CC as previously documented)

However, in the best interests of our League. (Which we still want, to beat the other guys)
Kanezis may get back involved as early as next week whereas Daniher is still a project player and a "big unit" at that, so get rid of him.
Watts also has an upside whereas Staker is weeks from any potential gain.

Round 1 Review
Another pathetic start in my tipping with only 4 out of 9 predictions correct.

Although except for Captain Who?’s big score the remainder of the league all fell within a 265 point range, so some luck with matchups was required.
Q had a very disappointing weekend and his 2158 was not good enough for the second highest score for the league of 2281 from the Cowboys. The Hotshots put up a pretty good score that would have seen him account for 8 other sides in the league but unfortunately was beaten by Richo Richo Man who’s scoret saw him rise 11 spots in the Hogg for the round. The Sharks did everything right except for the Geelong v Carlton game where they lost the Kreuze missile and Varcoe to the Red vest early on. This enabled the Lions to limp over for a win. The Ginger Ninjas had the lowest score of the league and therefore handed the win to WLF by 43 points who would have been happy with the form of Hartlet, Monfries, Kommer and Cox.

Crockocrack proved too good for Eck’y Fevolas as they climbed the Hogg ladder following Richo up 13 spots. The Fevolas would be disappointed in the form of Rischetelli, Rockliff and Byrnes and the injury to Varcoe. Greedy Guns put a dent in Has Been’s winning percentage by winning this first round encounter that had a lot of differentiators and perhaps a Captain impact? Harrynuts was beaten in a close encounter by the Darksiders which has hurt the Nuts Hogg win loss ratio, they also will be worried about the form of Zorko and the injury to Varcoe.

While the Mosquitos slid down the Hogg table (Kreuzer affected) from top spot this week they did enough to beat Cdfcdevils who have made some changes to their forward line but are still in trouble with a couple of nonstarters and Varcoe’s injury. The Spuds while scoring its first win in the Premier League unfortunately came across Captain Who? and his top score for the round which moved him to 4th in the Hogg and this has put the spud at the foot of the ladder.

Round 2 Preview

Many teams will be assessing the situation around Ryder and Varcoe this week. Karnezis was ruthlessly culled from most teams last week with only Has Been and the Spuds still having him.

Richo Richo Man vs Rack City Cowboys
The Premier league stalwart Richo Richo Man made one trade last week getting rid of Adcock for Birchall and will be hoping he and his other POD’s of Murphy, Lucas, Jacobs, Cox and Franklin will outperform the 2012 Div 5 winner Cowboys POD’s of Hartlet, Heppell, both Kennedy’s and Dangerfield also having made two trades last week he will have to evaluate what he is going to do with Ryder and Varcoe. Overall the Richo Mans forward line looks stronger and should get him the points.

Q Before You vs sharks
Q made one trade last week getting rid of one of his mid-price forwards in Karnezis and freed up some cash to Dwyer. Now he is faced with the dilemma of Varcoe and Ryder in his forward lines and with Macaffer not playing he cannot hide all of them. Spiro has his own problems involving Kreuzer, Varcoe, Karnezis and Macaffer.
I think Q can shrug off last week and return to his early season form to drown the Sharks.

The Hotshots vs white line fever
The Hotshots had a tough match last week and come up against WLF who has the early season dream draw. Both teams made two trades but The Hotshots are scoring better at the moment and should win in a close fought contest.

Longwood Lions vs Crockocrack
Crockocrack made two trades of two midfield mid-pricers down to rookies to free up some cash and hopefully create better cows for the future but one in Mitchell seems to have backfired. Based on the scores from last round Crockocrack should be victorious over a slow starting Lions outfit, whose POD’s are not yet with the game plan.

The Ginger Ninjas vs Greedy Guns
The two Ben’s will fight out this match with the Ninja’s having a slow start with some of his POD’s underperforming and the Waters injury also a concern. On the other side the Guns have improved the forward line with Kennedy and their other POD’s are doing well so should win this game easily.

Ecky's Fevolas vs Darksiders SCE
The Darkside look too strong for the Fevolas in this matchup with the Darkside catching up one POD with the WCE Kennedy trade last week and should win the game in the middle with Syd Kennedy, Swan and Dangerfield too strong for Fyfe, Moloney and Rischitelli from the Fevolas.

Has Been vs cdfcdevils
Has Been interestingly pulled the trigger on Ryder before his big score last week but this has saved him the trade this week. Also he is clearly in a suffer no fools mood as Newman also got the chop last week, both trades freeing up a lot of cash. He is travelling a lot better than the Devils who have a lot of ground to make up in this League and seem reticent to prune non-performers in the same way as Has Been is doing. Has Been should put his first win on the board.

harrynutts vs Captain Who?
The match of the round and should be a high scoring affair.
Captain Who? bought in WCE Kennedy and Walters last week and it certainly helped their score along. Whereas Harrynuts two trades were about fixing forward rookies . The two are very evenly matched, once again I think it will be won in the middle with Harry having Pendels, Ablett and Mundy against the Captain‘s mids of Syd Kennedy, Barlow, Cotchin and Dangerfield. Captain Who? to salute.

MILLER MOSQUITOES vs Spuds

The Spuds have the hard start to the season having been beaten by the Captain with his big score last week and now meeting the Mosquitos who scored 150 below their average last week but still managed a win. On paper the Mosquitos have the advantage and one has to worry about Kreuzer and the other Ryder. Perhaps it will come down to a Pendles v Ablett captain choice but my pick is the Mosquitos.

Well it did get worse, only 3 predictions correct this week. The scores for the Champions league continued to be subdued this week but less volatile which suggests coaches are smoothing off their rough edges. I don’t think too many had Viney on the bench so that had minimal impact on head to head and the Captain choices were mostly average.

That Div 5 Upstart the Cowboys is giving me grief beating two Premier League regulars in his first two games, both against my predictions. The most recent was downing Richo Richo Man. Q put up the worst score for the league and again was beaten, by the sharks this time and seems to be in a world of pain. WLF’s dream draw continues with an improved score and second win this week against a disappointing Hotshots and WLF is ready to prey on the wounded Richo Richo man this week.

The Lions although improved went down to Crockocrack by 15 points that leaves them undefeated. Greedy Guns were the other team to remain undefeated putting the Ninjas to the sword by over 200 points. Also in another changing of the guard for the Hogg the Div 4 Premier Ecky's Fevolas put their first Champions League win up against the grizzled Darksiders who are not having a good start to the season.

In the closest contest of the weekend Has Been just eclipsed the Cdfcdevils by 7 points to leave them winless so far this year. Harrynuts returned to form with the league’s highest score and beat the giant of last week in Captain Who? who would have had trouble beating another 11 of the league competitors with that score. The Mosquitoes had another disappointing week and unlike last week were not able to survive the clash and went down to the Spuds who pick up their first win.

Round 3 Preview

Rack City Cowboys vs sharks
Richo Richo Man vs white line fever
Q Before You vs Crockocrack
The Hotshots vs Greedy Guns
Longwood Lions vs Darksiders SCE
The Ginger Ninjas vs cdfcdevils
Ecky's Fevolas vs Captain Who?
Has Been vs Spuds
harrynutts vs MILLER MOSQUITOES

Lots of Splits in the round this week with lots of manoeuvring possible for Captains and Emergencies. Although as some have discovered it can be very beneficial to have a sure fire DPP donut on the bench to take advantage of these. I have had to come up with a different tipping technique this week to try to improve my strike rate.

Well after bashing the Cowboys for the first two rounds and being put in my place for non-believing I will jump on board this week after observing that their match round scores are superior to the Sharks who had to replace Kreuzer and Varcoe with Leuenberger and Le Crass last week and will need to replace Suban this week as Lyon loses faith in him. The Cowboys should win by 120 plus points. (Although young fellas of today never listen, he’s picked up the Hoff??)

Richo Richo Man needs to pick himself up after last week’s score and try to take advantage to the injuries in the WLF forward line who in recent times have lost Goldsak, Pav and Karnezis. The Richo Man looks to be too good to stay down for long and this should end WLF’s winning streak.

Another coach suffering on the canvas at the moment is Q who also comes up against an undefeated Crockocrack who should ensure that Q’s misery will continue.

The top of the table Greedy Guns should easily account for the winless Hotshots who need to improve their score all over the ground by 200 points to become competitive in this League.

The Lions having lost narrowly last week take on the Darksiders who were a top four team in this league last year but have started slowly and are having difficulty adjusting to the rolling lockouts. The Lions whose defenders have now all hit their straps, should give them the edge in this encounter.

The winless Ninjas and the cdfcdevils who whilst both improving, fight out what could be a wooden spoon defining match unless they can advance their squads by more than 100 points per week. I suspect the more experienced Ninjas will produce this week and give them their first victory.

I think the match of the round will be Ecky’s Fevolas taking on Captain Who? whose scores this year and last are very similar. The Fevolas made two trades last week to strengthen up their forward line, whereas the Captain held his powder dry. I think The Fevolas just.

Another good matchup this week Has Been take on the Spuds both teams had their first win last week and made two trades to get them. They were both top four finishes in Div 1 last year and the Spuds got up by 100 points in their last clash in that league in Round 14. I think Has Been with a bit more Champions league understanding should get over the line.

In the last game Harrynuts take on the Mosquitoes who have fallen from favour in recent weeks and look to be in trouble as they try to regain early season form and will need to offload Kreuzer to remain competitive. Harry for mine and now that he has started winning will be a handful for future teams.

Well my best effort so far with 6 out of 9 tips correct.
4 Teams are setting the pace and remain undefeated after the three rounds Greedy Guns, white line fever, Rack City Cowboys and Crockocrack (who this round performed poorly but came up against the out of form Q and fell over the line by 14 points). The remaining spots in the eight are taken by teams that have won 2 games namely; harrynutts, Ecky's Fevolas, Has Been and Darksiders SCE. Q Before You, The Ginger Ninjas and The Hotshots are under the pump not having secured a win so far.

Has Been had the highest score for the round but the top 8 teams all had similar scores so leading to good match ups each week. The early wins could be critical in this league and close losses will be lamented later on when the run for the eight is tight.

Round 4 Preview

white line fever vs Rack City Cowboys
sharks vs Crockocrack
Richo Richo Man vs Greedy Guns
Q Before You vs Darksiders SCE
The Hotshots vs cdfcdevils
Longwood Lions vs Captain Who?
The Ginger Ninjas vs Spuds
Ecky's Fevolas vs MILLER MOSQUITOES
Has Been vs harrynutts

Problems for coaches this week with Goodes, Gibbs, Fyfe, Pittard, Walker, Crouch and Rioli out and fitness concerns on Heath and Vlastuin could cause issues in the back line which for most teams has been stable up till now. I note a lot of teams were trigger happy with trades last week, I hope this doesn’t come back to bite them later in the year.

Two undefeated teams clash in the first game with the Rack City Cowboys favourites to knock off the WLF crew who have started well but have been a little lucky with their low scoring, which isn’t quite up to top 4 standards as yet. The Cowboys (with probably two more trades) to win over the fever.

The sharks after suffering a loss to the Cowboys last round take on the undefeated Crockocrack and look competitive on last week’s scores but the Crack should get up with a more consistently scoring team.

Richo Richo Man whilst avoiding trading, has plummeted to new depths and needs to try to turn his season around. He now meets the undefeated early season bolter in Greedy Guns so I suspect he will have to wait a little longer to right the ship, the Guns by plenty.

The other team that has lost their way once the games for premiership points got underway is Q (another holding the trade button last week) and he will meet a long time Premier League rival in the Darksiders who are cruising through the games happily now, trading away and should account for the wounded Q.

The Hotshots start favourite this week looking at match scores against cdfcdevils and should secure their first win in Champions league if they make some judicious trades to those outed this week.

Captain Who? And the Lions battle it out to try to get their second win on the board to keep in touch with the eight. The Captain who made the popular Viney to Evans trade last week should win this, with superior scoring over the last three weeks.

The Ginger Ninjas will remain winless this week as the Spuds are far too strong in their scoring of late and will be smarting after their loss to Has Been last week.

Ecky’s Fevolas made two trades last week upgrading to Cotchin which makes him stronger, play the out of form Mosquitos that are holding the injured Kreuze missile on the bench but finally gave up on Lewis and bought in a budget priced Franklin. The Fevolas to get up in a close one.

Has Been who was able to upgrade Viney to Selwood last week and ensured him the win with the top score have another tough game this week with harrynuts who made some cash last week with two trades and should be upgrading this week, so I pick Harry to be victorious.

Back to only 4 tips correct this week, in what proved to be a difficult week for most fantasy coaches with normally reliable players spudding it up and those with Pendels as captain and Dangerfield really separating themselves from the field.

Rack City Cowboys remains as the only undefeated team on top of the ladder having taken care of White Line fever by over 100 points. The two other undefeated teams in Crockocrack and Greedy Guns had a horrible round and were beaten by at least 200 points each by the Sharks and Richo Richo Man.

What was good for the competition was that Q Before You, The Hotshots and The Ginger Ninjas all opening their account with the Ninjas getting up by only 7 points. Q also signalled a return to form by having the highest score of the round despite bringing in Hartlett who didn’t live up to expectations but Vlastiun helped as his other trade.

Ecky didn’t do well but the Mosquitos were worse and Has Been showed superior staying power by outlasting Harrynuts by 124 points. The Lions also had a horrid round and lost to the Captain as had been anticipated.

Round 5 Preview

The Supercoach community has been rocked in recent times by players not performing up to expectation. I heard of a perfectly respectable team last week each player a well-supported member in Supercoach teams but in this particular week a score of 1060 was only achieved due to that week’s idiosyncrasies. This should send a shiver down the back of all coaches.
All the scores in the Champions league since the beginning of head to head matches have been subdued with the Top score by Captain Who in Round 1 of only 2410. Let’s hope for some more freedom shortly and we can see some more free flowing scores.

The Cowboys as our only undefeated team meet Crockocrack who have only lost one in a terrible effort last week. Although Crockocrack should recover it will not be enough to worry the Cowboys and they should triumph.

WLF and Greedy Guns meet in a 2nd v 3rd battle that would give the victor a handy break and a chance to secure an early season top 4 spot. WLF has been under the pump score wise this season, but with some good wins early on. I would expect the Guns to knock off the Fever in the finish.

Darksiders and the Sharks are sitting on two wins a apiece but the Sharks have not faced the same quality of opposition that the Darkside have this season and this should see the Darkside catch the sharks out and bring home the bacon.

Richo Richo Man is a 160pt a game better player than the cdfcdevils this season and should easily account for them this week. Richo by 200 plus.

Q has been steadily improving each game and top scored and finally broke through with a win last week. He now has another tough match against the Captain but Q’s graph is moving in an upward trend whereas the Captain is currently going downwards The Q to stitch up the Captain and score his second win for the year.

The Hotshots fresh from inflicting its first victory last week will be eager to take on the demoralised Spuds who lived up to their name last week. However, I see a lot more room for improvement in the Spuds scores and they should shake off that defeat and return to the winners list.

The Lions are once again licking their wounds after yet another defeat and only having had shark as a meal this year are now ravenous for another feed and they will have to make do with Mosquitoes who are behaving like they have been hit with the Mortien since the head to head games started. Lions to roar.

The Ninjas woes this year are well documented and they will continue this week as they meet Harrynuts who is travelling at least 200 points per game better, so Ginger should get another belting.

In the match of the round 4th v 5th the Fevolas who had a bad round last week take on Has Been who seemed to once again get out of the carnage unscathed. This will be a close game with both I reckon going with Gaz as captain and it could come down to a Cotchin v Selwood shoot out Has Been by an old grey whisker.
