Im not sure....will he score enough points as a key forward in the GC to make any return on investment?

The interesting call will be the more talented Ablett. Will he be the captaincy 'lock' that he has been for the last couple of years, or will his numbers drop now he has to carry a team?

surfer Ablett: Can't trust his desire. He's already served his purpose at GC. It will get too hard for him at one point. Could be a reasonable cash cow but wasn't a consistent scorer even during the Geelong 2007 model. Brandon Matera at the same price looks the better bet. Prestia will do well too but he costs nearly double.

greedy **** Ablett: Still a gun but not at that price with so many unknowns about him. What remains the same is that he still has that low centre of gravity and he can still win his own ball. What has changed is that he won't get the same level of protection in the Suns midfield. The Suns, like Geelong will look to give him the ball at every opportunity but might not do so with the same degree of skill. Upgrade target after the second Suns bye in Round nine rather than in your start up squad.

Surely with the lack of protection he will recieve at the suns compared with geelong, his disposal efficiency will decrease. A better investment at that price will be swan. Has that hardened midfield around him and knows how to find the ball and use it. I reckon he will be my choice this year for captain

Yes. He'll get a gig before Toy IMO as he has an AFL sized frame.

will he be listed as a forward or back? played for sturt as a forward but news is hes been training as a key back at GC?

anyone thinking about the less talented ablett if he looks alright in pre season comp?

Fanplanner has him listed as a Back but that is only a guide. The 'word' is that he will play in the backline. See above for my comments on Nablett.

Swan is another upgrade target for mine. Horribly overpriced for the start of the season for a player who tends to start slowly. The Pies have both their byes by Round 14 so that would be the time to get him in. I reckon Pendlebury is a better buy than Ablett and Swan.

Ah ok good point. Whats the ruling for sc this year with players in your side when their team has the bye?

SC not open so can't answer that but I reckon you'll get Bubkus. It will be very interesting to see how the comp is tweaked this year.

I assume when your player has the bye it's the same as if he was injured. Zero points.

The change this year that I have heard is that there will be no league games in the rounds when there are multiple byes. So if you only want to win the league then you can leave your team as it is over those rounds.

So this means donuts galore for every coach who is stacking up on Suns players and as an added bonus for safootyites the blackbirds have the bye in the second round.

good point Hondo, this will need to be kept in mind by any coaches hoping to get out of "the pool" and into the higher reaches of the Hogg. i hadnt thought of it until you brought it up! i think the upcoming season is going to throw up some very unique challenges, and possibly help a few surprise upsets along the way.

That will make things interesting, its going to force coaches to spread their teams with players from all sides rather than stacking with players from one club.....can we have season 2012 already

dunno about walker, if anyone from the forward line improves in productivity i rekon it will be tippett. i think walker is more of a secondary target at the moment but when he kicks bags two or three times during the year as he always does he will score well.

dave mckay i rekon could be on the improve, for me hes a bit like van berlo was two years ago, he consistently average about 75-80ish but i rekon your better off taking a punt on a rookie

Is Taylor going to be a star? I almost hope so, for him.
He's been pumped up, told how good he is, had double page spreads on him in the Sunday Mail... BUT long way from being a consistent star.

McKay has All-Australian potential I think. Genuine pacy, skillful wingmen, just no injuries please!

I gambled on McKay last year and it didn't pay off. Still yet to resume full training from groin issues. Gonna steer clear of him this year I think.

Vince and Otten are two Crows in my sights. Tippett an option. Brodie Martin a roughie who could really increase his output this year (got leather poisoning against the Saints in the last round last year).

Vince is a no go in my team until he can prove he can shake a tag. Reminds me too much of pearce from the power, great scoring in his first couple of years so i punted on him in 08 and he killed me as he couldnt shake the tag.

Otten is a player ill watch with interest in the NAB cup, if he is anything like 09 ill have him in my side

Otten could well be a Malceski.............of 2009. What you want is Otten to be the Malceski of 2010. I know Otten didn't do the Lars but sometimes it takes a while to shake this kind of thing off. I reckon Marcus Drum could well be the backline smokey.

It depends what Scotty does with the midfield. I can see a bit of Kel in the midfield and Corey as well. Milburn is getting on so I reckon Drum has an opportunity. The big fly in the ointment for Drum is Taylor Hunt but I reckon that Hunt and Drum can co-exist in the same side because I have a sneaking suspicion that players such as Mackie and Ling might get some time up forward. The more Scott tinkers with the lineup the better bet Drum becomes.
