Division II Semi Finals Preview

1st Semi Final 4 - Jims TigerRoos vs. 8 - TEAM_FISH

Two very strong sides will be playing off here to stay in the hunt for Promotion and premiership honors in what looms as a very even contest. FISH might have only just fallen into the eight in the end but all season long they looked like deserved finals and put on the afterburners last week when required. Jims TigerRoos have discovered that winning feeling a bit more this year after previously being a side that scores well but doesn't always win matches. In recent weeks though the TigerRoos' scoring has dropped off a bit. The problem I see for Jim this week is Travis Cloke against Hawthorn, a side that Collingwood hasn't done well against in recent seasons. The omission of Ibbotson means that the TigerRoos will have to play Blayne Wilson in the backline. TEAM_FISH also has Ibbotson (and Clisby) but their starting six defenders are very solid. These two advantages add up to a FISHY win. My tip - TEAM_FISH.

2nd Semi Final 3 - Toolman vs. 7 - Moneybrawl

What a tough match to predict this one is. Both sides have a host of inconsistent players that are key to their teams hopes. Toolman has an issue with that Mid 8 position..does he risk young gun Grigg or does he play safe and go with Tom Mitchell. Surely he can't play Vlastuin who hasn't scored well for some time. In the forward line Toolie has Monfries but he lost last week and Gussie kicked seven. Maybe Boomer will stand up and score well if Gus doesn't? For Moneybrawl Gibbs, Suban, Harbrow and Pittard doesn't exactly represent a roll call of the consistent. In the forward line see above when we talk about what Travis Cloke may or may not do this weekend. I would't be on him to ton up this week. In a real toss of the coin job I'm going to stick with my pre-season premiership pick of Toolman but this could be one of the closest finals in the Hogg this week. My tip - Toolman...just!

Prior to todays games we have:

TEAM_FISH: 254 points + Barlow + Duffield + Terlich
Jims TigerRoos: M Johnson + K Jack + Griffin + Minson

Jim is looking down the barrel with my three all scoring well to 3/4 time. I reckon his three premiums need to make about 400 between them to win it...

With Freo v Melbourne complete Jims TigerRoos now needs Jack + Griffin + Minson to score 467 between them to beat me. That will be difficult particularly as Jack has only 31 at half time...

Pop the corks, you are home.
I should get over the line too as long as Jacobs doesn't get injured.

Semi Finals Review

1st Semi Final

TEAM_FISH 2237
Jims TigerRoos 2037

TEAM_FISH has stormed into the Division II Preliminary Final with a 200 point smashing over Jims TigerRoos. FISHys Heath Shaw spudout was cancelled out by the TigerRoos' Heppell low score but it was the captaincy selection that decided this final. With the FISH already slightly ahead overall, Captain Joel Selwood's massive 94 point advantage over a misfiring Ablett sealed the deal for FISHy. Jims TigerRoos' loss has consigned them to Division II, a league where they seem to do well every season but can't quite escape from. TEAM_FISH meanwhile, is the league's top ranked scorer and now needs to defeat the SCLSU Mud Dogs to get promoted to Division I next season.

2nd Semi Final

Moneybrawl 2228
Toolman 2168

The Toolman's poor late season form dogged him right to the end but he got a bit closer than Jimbo in his Semi Final. Even though Toolman won the captaincy battle with Ablett over Fyfe, they had no answer to a rampant Travis Boak (172!) that proved to be a sensational Point of Difference that helped secure the win for Moneybrawl. Moneybrawl now faces what I believe is the tougher of the two Prelim Finals in Ecky's Fevolas but if he can get past Ecky then he'll be a deserved Hogg Division I coach next season.

Cheers Toolman.
I had a similar run just before the finals. I lost 6/8 to scrape into 7th spot.
Did quite a lot wrong this week including bringing in Heppell.
Not as bad as bringing in Sandilands into my DT last week.
A bit of tweaking to be done this week if I am going to get over Ecky.
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

Division II Prelim Previews

1st Preliminary Final 1 - Ecky's Fevolas vs. 7 - Moneybrawl

With the demise of Toolman my kiss of death will now be placed fairly and squarely on Ecky's Fevolas. The Fevs had a good time of it last year and look set to advance to another league again next year. There is a double prize on offer in these Prelims with winners to not only get promoted to Hogg Division I but they will also be invited to participate in the Hogg Champions League next season. What do the losers get here? Bugger all. Hartlett out for the Fevs is tricky and Pittard can help to cover some but not all of Hartlett's points. It will be interesting to see if a trade is made here. Apart from this minor problem Ecky's Fevolas look pretty flawless. His opponent Moneybrawl has proven to be tough to put away but they could be in real bother here as they have Hartlett and Heppell. The coverage for these two is Pittard again as well as Blayne Wilson for the Eagles who at least has been named. That's twice as much spuddliness as his opponents down back. Moneybrawl has gone for eight players instead of seven guns in midfield with Mitchell Duncan a POD that could either pay off, fail miserably against Sydney or rack up the points as he wastes away on the bench. Perhaps the donut player should have been the go here with the two bites of the cherry that this can provide for the emergency. Both teams are solid up front and are both going to play Jacobs unless trading is factor. With a stronger midfield and backline I reckon it's the Fevs' final to lose. My tip - Ecky's Fevolas.

2nd Preliminary Final 2 - SCLSU Mud Dogs vs. 8 - TEAM_FISH

FISH has been scoring very well during this finals series but second ranked SCLSU Mud Dogs are no slouch in this area either. The Muddies have Hartlett but have Docherty as cover and he would be the best option as they play against the Bulldogs at home as opposed to a youngster Blayne Wilson up against a snarling Pies outfit. The Muddies midfield is pure silk and can cover Cotchin if the General comes to visit with either Viney or O'Meara, I'd be leaning towards the latter with Melbourne having a pukey record at AAMI. Goldstein and Cox is about as good as it gets in ruck with the only question for the Muddies the Hawkins vs. Lewis Johnston option for the last forward so they aren't as strong up front as elsewhere in the side. TEAM_FISH has kept avoiding the hook this month, he's avoided the Hartlett lure but bang here comes Ibbotson and Clisby to remove any potential advantage. FISH's midfield is first class as well plenty of points are heading to both sides in this area.In the ruck we have Goldstein again but FISH has a Roughie in the school instead of Big Cox in what looms as a key match up with those midfields so close. FISH has an advantage in the forward line and this could prove to be decisive. Not having to carry Tom Hawkins or Lewis Johnston up front could be a key battle. Can Roughie beat Cox (who FISH have in the forwards)? Can Steve beat Lewis...I say they can. My tip - TEAM_FISH.

Another great preview REB.

Interesting to see the prelims being played by the top two teams vs teams 7 and 8.

Supercoach predictor puts the Mud Dogs 15 points ahead of TEAM_FISH it's gonna be close!

Once again Captain Joel Selwood comes to my aid, along with Enright and Fyfe, and I'm in with a sniff after looking down the barrel after last night. But it's gonna be close:

TEAM_FISH: 319 points + Martin + Staker
SCLSU Mud Dogs: Ablett + Cotchin + Hanley + Griffen

In the other three games it looks like easy wins to Ecky's Fevolas and Professor Crow whilst the last one is too close to call...

Need a massive game from Ablett to give me a slight chance.
Suban getting injured was a major setback.
