Very happy to see a couple changes this week for the doggies.

OUT: Smedts, Hall, Donut

IN: Goddard, Martin, Maric

So effectively scored 2301 from 19 then another 57 from those witches hats...

Benji had my measure last week but I reckon I can turn that around, he has broughton and kreuzer out so will need to trade at least once to avoid a donut? He may have the upper hand in the mids but my FWDS and BACKS have him covered...

Get up the doggies!!!
I am not talking to you for 3 minutes because you punched me in the head and it hurt and that was not okay for you to do

And here's the ladder. Interesting to note that the three ex-Premier League teams are not in contention.

Review
Three games went against my predictions with Ron’s Rumcoks taking their mind off the play and going down to Buddy by 41 points. I thought Buddy was ripe for the plucking, but he should now easily qualify for the finals but has a fight to keep a top 4 spot.

As I predicted some time back the Potenza has the ability to shape the 8 even if he does not participate. The Potenza beat the more fancied top 4 opponent The Spuds by 4 points although The Spuds should be able to hold onto a double chance as this was only their third loss.

The Bullies pulled out the top score of the round to snuff out the fast finishing Beasts by 95 points, further hurting their percentage and this was enough now to drop them out of the 8 at the expense of the Lions. The Bullies now have an eye on Buddy’s spot in the top 4 and could get that next week if the wounded Beasts bounce back and defeat Buddy.

The rest of the games went as predicted although the Badgers gave the ManBearPigs a scare and only went down by 53 points

On the relegation front it now looks almost certain that the two teams relegated from Hogg Premier last season are now set to drop to Division 2 next year.

Round 16

Two to go folks and if you were getting desperate looking for that POD that could produce that big score to get that unlikely win don’t go to Higgo he has done his hammy again! Perhaps you could look at Silvia (MPP), Grimes is looking good or Cloke is cheap and shirley could explode any time soon?

The first game is the battle for top spot with Les’s Men and Has Been battling it out. Has Been is threatening to oust Cloke and Giles to try to make up some ground and Les has his own problems in the Ruck with the Kreuze missile and Giles proving a let down in recent times. Has Been has covered Les in every game since the byes so would be unlucky not to win and put one hand on the minor premiership.

FootyLedgens take on Rumcoks and Cobras take on the inconsistent Potenza as 4 of the bottom 5 teams compete for pride in a season that has gone awry for each, for one reason or another.

Buddy Franklin engage BenjisBeasts in a critical game for both. Buddy is trying to keep hold of 4th spot so will be anxious, whereas the Beasts will be chasing a spot in the 8. Buddy has been all conquering this year sitting atop of the Hogg Rankings and Champions league table but has found it a little tougher in Division 1 having lost 5 games so far. The Beasts are in a similar position to last year as far as the number of wins is concerned but find themselves currently out of the 8. On recent form the Beasts should make it 6 losses for Buddy to keep their final hopes alive.

In another important match The Spuds secure in 3rd spot take on the ManBearPigs who will not have the security of a double chance this year but who with superior percentage are assured of a finals berth with an easy opponent next week. There was only 14 points separating them last week so it will be close with a Pigs win expected.

The Bulldogs play against Slim Shady DTC who back in Round 12 were sitting pretty in the 8 on 7 wins after having just beaten the ManbearPigs. Slim has not won a game since despite putting up some competitive scores. The Bulldogs in their quest for the double chance will put Slim to the sword to make it 4 losses in a row.

The Honey Badgers look like they are in strife coming up against the in form Carnts who should cement their spot in the 8 and consign the Badgers to the dungeon where they will need to reflect on what might have been as the equal top ranked Hogg player from 2011 as they will not contest Division 1 or Champions League finals in 2012. Perhaps a change of environment in the off season with some ‘Mexican’ influences could help with his attack on the Division 1 title next year.

The Lions and Heroes should account for the Crows and the Krew who seem to have lost interest with scores below 2000 last round.

The top of the table clash turned into a bit of a fizzer with Has Been handing a 241 point thrashing to Les’s Men showing them the sort of score that will be required to win a match in the finals.

Rumcoks with a massive (Top of the Hogg score?) and the Potenza did what was required to ensure they did pull away from the bottom three teams.

The Beasts were able to topple Buddy from the top 4 but they may have left there run too late for the 8 with that shocking home and away percentage leaving them in 9th spot at the moment, hoping for the Lions or the Pigs to falter.

The Spuds put up another huge score that will win finals and despite the ManBearPigs getting 2525 they were not able to get within 150 points of the third placed team.

The Bullies eased into the top four with an equally impressive score that should be a worry to others in the finals taking care of Slim by 337 points thus extending their losing streak that has seen them dumped out of the 8 in the last 4 games.

In the close game of the round Cossi got up by 30 points over the Badgers. The worry more so for the Carnts is that all the other finals bound teams seem to have caught up and passed them in scoring and infact some by 300 points or more, including next weeks opponent The Spuds. Those laurels he was resting on may need to be tempered with some action to reinvigorate that recent top scores for the Division.

The Lions had a lot of trouble on the weekend with the Crows only surviving by 55 points in the end to an entertaining clash. Honda put up their 8th win for the year by defeating the Krew and winning three in a row but they have left their run too late and will finish out of the 8.

Round 17
The last round of the home and away with some good matches scheduled, the possible ‘General’ afflictions should be kept to a minimum this week with GWS v Port and Melb v GCS. However, questions remain over Ryder, Crameri, Stanton, Sidebottom, Stevie J, Sam Shaw, Drummond, Jacobs, Tippett, Robinson, Daisey, Mohr, Patton, Shiel, Franklin, Hale, Morris Goodes, Mumford, Cox, Kerr and Higgins.
Broughton and Cross are gone, Marty Clarke looks to be dropped and Gilbee and Glass cop one week bans, so some people will have some interesting decisions.

The rampaging Rumcoks fresh from a Hogg high score last weekend take on second placed Les’s Men who earlier in the season were unbeatable but do not look to have the guns to go with the Rumcoks so should see their 4th loss but still stay safely in the top 4.

The top team Has Been once again seems to be hitting his best form in time for the finals should hold off the fast finishing Potenza who have been an enigma this season with no consistency in scoring and have won the last two to ensure they were not relegated but have only chalked up 5 wins for the year.

The FootyLedgens who have not been able to recover from an early season injury malaise and will need to look at replacing their conditioning staff in the off season will be relegated for a second season in a row, will be keen to put up a fight against the Beast’s but should be crushed. If BenjisBeasts win they can only wait for an upset loss to the Lions or the Pigs to make the final 8.

The ManBearPigs take on the Cobras and the Lions meet DunkzKrew and despite Benjis prayers I cannot see the Krew and the Cobras getting up thus shutting the door on the 8 to the Beasts.

Buddy plays against Slim in the next match and while Buddy has slid out of the top 4 and only 10 points separates him and Slim last week he should make a recovery and keep the 5th spot.

The Spuds who are looking a real threat to make the Grand Final take on Johnny come lately Cossi who has risen up the ladder in the later part of the season and was looking invincible until a hiccup last week, in scoring that was not up to the top tier put out by our ladder leaders. Both teams have plenty of uniques and so should be an interesting game but will not impact on the makeup of the 8.

The Bullies who seem to be warming up nicely for the finals should not drop a match against the Denver Crows who after a very promising start seem to be suffering from the tyranny of distance and are not quite in tune with the AFL machinations this year.

The final game is the Honey Badgers v Hondas Heroes both evenly matched and should provide a good close contest. I expect the Heroes to win but both unfortunately are not in contention for the 8.

Divvy I ladder. Benji a bit stiff to miss the eight with a 10-7 ratio.

Les’s Men seem to have freshened up just in time for the finals and beat the Rumcoks who could not keep up the scoring from the previous week this has give Les the home ground advantage in the 2nd Qualifying final versus The Spuds next week.

Has Been did enough this week to keep top spot by beating the Potenza, but will be nervously watching the scoring and ground that the Bullies have made up in the last few weeks as they will face off in the other Qualifying final. Will the Thunder Park home ground advantage be enough?

The Beasts trying to force there way into the 8 upheld there end by winning and gaining a 10 7 record but unfortunately the Pigs and the Lions also won so they finished in 9th spot. This has set up an Elimination final between the ManBearPigs and the Lions for next week

Buddy fortunately returned to form with a good score but only just beat Slim by 18 points he will take on Cossi in a seemingly an even match up in the other Elimination final after the Carnts were beaten by The Spuds, which dropped them to 8th spot just percentage ahead of the Beasts like the Lions and Pigs.

The Heroes beat up the Badgers and finished the season on 9 wins which sees them in 10th spot at the end of the home and away.

My tip is a Has Been v The Spuds grand final

1st Qualifying Final
Has Been v Boongas Bulldogs
Has Been have been travelling nicely and finished in the top spot, they now have to decide what they are going to do about Swan and Franklin, while Porpoise could also be a problem in the forward line. The Bullies need to get more from their backs to pull out a winning score and also will have to worry about Franklin and Porpoise coming into this match. The Bulldogs appear in Ecky’s ladder ahead of all other Div 1 teams for improvement since the byes so will be hard to beat, but I think Has Been will just succeed.

2nd Qualifying Final
Les’s Men v The Spuds
Les’s Men have stalled up until last week and are having issues with the current form of Rockliff, Hurn and Lake. They were unbeatable early in the season and rightfully earn the double chance but they may need it as The Spuds are in top current form averaging over 90 ppg more than Les since the byes. With only Franklin to worry about The Spuds should move directly into a preliminary final.

1st Elimination Final
Buddy Franklin v Cossi’s Carnts
Buddy is another that has dropped off later in the season although doing well enough in the Champions League, they dropped out of the top 4 to play a cutthroat final this week. He has some issues with his team he needs to address in that Drummond, Rockliff, Cloke and Porpoise need to perform to be a chance and of course will be riding the Franklin decision. Cossi meanwhile only has to worry about Franklin but looks comfortable averaging over 55ppg more than Buddy since the byes and should triumph.

2nd Elimination Final
Marion ManBearPigs v Longwood Lions
The creatures from Marion once again have built up for a finals campaign and are in their best form, they have a few problems with Broughton, Franklin and Porpoise, so it will be interesting to see what Milky does at the selection table. The Lions have somewhat plateaued in the last couple of weeks and need more out of Scooter Selwood, Hanley and Porpoise whilst having the Franklin issue to deal with as well. I hope the Lions can conquer and turn the table on the Marion creatures to advance another week.

Winners in the Minor Finals should see BenjisBeasts too good for SlimShady DTC. Hondas Heroes to repeat last weeks win against the Honey Badgers. Rumcoks to trounce the Cobras by over 350 points based on Eckys ladder. The Puopolo Potenza once again take on their sister city in the Denver Crows in the close one with the Potenza predicted to just prevail.

Things are lookin good for the bulldogs right now. Has been will be missing Swan in the mids so Baguely gets a run and Franklin, Chapman, Porps and Adams in the FWDS.

Get on the dogs, hopefully 1 game away from premier league!!!
