Like many leagues in the Hogg the bye period is usually when the top sides drop matches and Divvy II was no exception in this regard as three of the top four teams were defeated. The Dukes have been flying and Pigs Arsenal hasn’t been far behind but both sides missed out on the choccies as fellow top eight sides Guidance and the Ugly Ducks took advantage. GETOUT must be saying just that to the bye period because they have fallen in a complete heap and losing to also-rans Failed Creation certainly wasn’t in the script for the team that lead the ladder and scoring for the majority of the season before the dreaded byes hit. Unlike the genuine article, the Adelaide Crows have been tracking nicely and they will have one eye on GETOUT’s to four spot as they try to fly back to the Division I nest they were evicted from last season. Cobras and Duromine’s recent good form came to and end as did Cossi’s Carnts but harryshawks and Some Cant kept the heat on the top eight and even Underbelly are starting to win again. Still can’t rule anyone out which is what you want six weeks out from finals.

The Dukes had the weekend off but are still top of the pile after the second and third placed teams on the ladder also got rolled. Big winners of the week included GETOUTOFTHEWAY who ended a poor bye period on a good note and Adelaide Crows who won the Crow derby by 100 points. It would have been a hell of a jumper clash in that one. Dukes’ conqueror Cobras had a good week up to 7th and Ugly Ducklings firmed as finalist as well. Some Cant went ballistic with a massive 2245 with eighteen players…that’s a decent score in a regular week..as they belted Marty McFly all the way back to 1955. Harryshawkers were too good for my Pigs while Cossis Carnts got back on the winners list. Battlers Underbelly and Smashers had some success but for Guidance it was a week he’d rather forget as they went about as well as Port or Geelong with a wafer thin 1504 which gutted their percentage.

The Dukes are in hazard after all of their top four rivals had victories as they slumped to defeat to Cossi’s Carnts who refuse to go away after a slow start this season. Youngster harryshawks are a bit like the real thing, a slow start but coming good lately. We’re just wild about harry as he collected another big scalp, this time Magpie Mafia who missed their chance to go ahead of The Dukes. Can harry boogie his way all the way to the double chance? Ugly Ducklings, Some Can’t and Underbelly all joined the ranks of the indestructibles and you couldn’t rule any of them out of finals calculations. Guidance is in there now but is the most vulnerable candidate and Cobras not out of the race either despite last weekend’s loss to Underbelly. Power Rules cleaned up Creation this weekend to be the likely candidate to avoid relegation but they have to make up a win on Marty and percentage as well to Duromine Dependent. No one down just yet though.

Adelaide Crows have defeated GETOUT in the top of the table clash last weekend to be the third team to top the Division II ladder in the past month. The Crows have been building steadily in recent weeks and have hit top form to once again displace GETOUT from top spot. The Dukes smashed an inept Pigs Arsenal outfit in the other top four clash to move to third while the teams in the bottom half of the eight closed ranks to keep ahead of Underbelly and Cobras who both had excellent wins on the weekend. In the relegation scrap it’s a fond farewell from Divvy II to Failed Creation who will be in Division III after their 14th loss of the year. Professor Crow was the only bottom four side to secure a win and this keeps the heat on Marty McFlys and Duromine who aren’t safe yet.

The Run Home Round 19
There’s just two games to go to finals and this is how I reckon it might turn out in the run home. Looking at the ladder and the remaining matches, I reckon eleven wins are needed to make the finals. Remember folks, it’s the grand finalists here who go up.

1. Adelaide Crows 52 (Ugly Ducklings, harryshawks)
The Crows big win over GETOUT last week has probably sewed up top spot but Raymond has two very tough matches to finish with here. Ugly Ducks is tough but arguably hawkers are even tougher. That last game is really 50-50 but the Crows should win at least one and secure the double chance. I reckon Minor premier from here.

2. GETOUTOFTHEWAY 48 (Professor Crow, Some Can’t)
GETOUT is a game short of the Crows so they’ll be hoping Ray slips up on the run in so that he can get back the spot that looked his for the taking not that long ago. Either way this team is one of the big changes to be participating in Division I next season. I reckon they win both of these and push the Crows at the top and stay ahead of the Dukes.

3. The Dukes 48 (Failed Creation, Magpie Mafia)
The Dukes had a little stumble but have righted the ship. The last round against the Mafia is a tough match up but the Dukes should have no problem cleaning up wooden spooner elect Failed Creation this weekend.

4. Pigs Arsenal 48 (Underbelly, Cossi’s Carnts)
My mob are off the ball and put in a shocker last week. I reckon my sister Underbelly will record yet another win over Pigs in this game but I reckon we can recover with a win and secure the double chance with a heap of teams breathing down my neck.

5. Magpie Mafia 44 (SteveFromGuidance,, The Dukes)
Mafia has two tough assignments to finish so his excellent percentage probably won’t be improved upon. Has done enough to make the eight but I can’t see Ross winning both of these games to steal the double chance of Pigs Arsenal.

6. harryshawks 44 (Marty McFlys,, Adelaide Crows)
Harry is the big threat in the bottom half of the eight and would be a deserved top four team if they are good enough to beat the Crows in the last round. If Harry gets that result it makes his season. All of the top four teams will be hoping that the ladder leader does his job and keeps this impetuous youngster out of the double chance.

7. Ugly Ducklings 44 (Adelaide Crows, Professor Crow)
The Ducks have been solid of late but even though they’ve won eleven they need to win again to make the eight. If Underbelly draws level on wins then Steph is out. Can’t see the Ducks rolling the Crows but the Professor is a winnable game so she should get the chocolates there and feature next month.

8. SteveFromGuidance 40 (Magpie Mafia, Duromine Dependent)
Steve has been clinging to eighth spot seemingly all season but a loss to the Mafia this weekend could spell curtains for him. With a surging Underbelly and Cobras behind him, he just can’t afford to lose this week. Beat Mafia and they’ll beat Duromine in the last round and give Underbelly and Cobras a bit of shutout if they are good enough.

9. Underbelly 36 (Pigs Arsenal, Failed Creation)
Underbelly and harryshawks are the form sides of the moment but Underbelly has left her run very late. She has a tough match against Pigs Arsenal followed by a romp against Creation to close. If Kels can get into the eight then she might cause a few issues but Pigs can score big on their day and are capable of the upset….he says.

10. Cobras 36 (Cossi’s Carnts, Smashers FC)
The Snakes are favourites in both and need two handy percentage boosters to make it. Dale needs losses to Underbelly, Steve, and Ducklings to make it. He can catch the percentage of the Ducklings but probably not Steve or Belly so while it is a longshot, it’s still possible for the Snakes.

11. Some Cant 36 ( Smashers FC, GETOUTOFMYWAY)
The Cants gave up a start and have clawed their way back into his competition but last week’s loss to the Cobras has put them on the back foot. I’d expect the Cants to move to ten wins next week but I can’t see them beating GET OUT to qualify.

The top six are through to the finals as they all recorded solid wins in Round 19 with the exception of Pigs Arsenal who fell over the line and all but ended Underbelly’s season. Pigs look vulnerable in the top four with the Mafia and the young hawkers lurking. The Pigs face a tough last round match against Cossi’s Carnts who are fresh off a monster 2500 score but in the Pigs favour, Mafia plays The Dukes while harryshawks face up to the ladder leaders. Ugly Ducklings will need to win their last round match as they have a poor percentage but they will face spirited resistance from Professor Crow who will be hellbent on avoiding relegation. Eighth ranked Steve has a similar kind of match up as they face Marty so It’s looking a tad unlikely that there will be room for Underbelly or Some Cant in the finals. Some Cant has 17th ranked Smashers so if the can reel off a percentage booster they might overhaul Steve but Underbelly lost their chance when they got rolled by the Pigs last week. Two teams have been relegated already in Smashers FC and Failed Creation but Power Rules and especially Professor Crow will like their chances of escaping the drop which puts a bit of heat on out of form Marty McFlys.

It was harryshawks and Some Cant who where the big winners in the last round of minor round matches as they snaffled a double chance and finals place respectively at the eleventh hour. Some Cant gave up a fair start early doors and even looked a relegation chance but they’ve barnstormed home in the final weeks of the regular season and racked up a massive 2623 to defeat GETOUT, one of the best teams in the competition. I’d hate to be the side that faces them in the finals….oh shit. FFS. Another side coming in with some hot form is the youngster wycbloods jnr who will be keen to join his old man and his uncle in Division I provided they can get the two wins required from fourth. Harry made light work of the Adelaide Crows who had been the most consistent side over the entire year until falling over at the last minute. Poor old Steve missed out on the finals by 18 points as they were defeated by non-contender Duromine while McGovern’s non-attendance meant that Pigs Arsenal could not defeat Cossi’s Carnts even though I nailed the captaincy call with Sheezel. In the end McFly finished two games clear of the bottom four who are now stuck in the middle of the Hogg and no longer amongst the big boys. We wave a fond farewell to (surprisingly) Professor Crow, while Power Rules, Creation and Smashers all looked likely for the drop. Looking to the finals I can’t see Pigs rolling Some Cant and I reckon the Mafia should account for the Ducklings. The two teams who will earn the week off I believe are The Dukes and GETOUTOFTHEWAY but those top four teams are very close.

The finals are underway and the Dukes and GETOUT were the big winners as they are now one win away from promotion to Division I next season. Seven of the top eight sides scored over 2400 so it’s going to be a pretty tight flag race so you’d be loving the week off about now. The Dukes had a very tight win over the inform harry while the Crows also put in a decent shift despite not getting the job done. Pigs Arsenal put the kibosh on Some Cant’s season with a ten-point squeaker while the Mafia was a hit as they had Ducklings l’Hogg in their elimination final as they racked up a 261-point victory. Harryshawks have been in much better recent form than Pigs Arsenal so they should bounce back to eliminate my boys while the Adelaide Crows could be facing a double barrel of high scoring opponents as Magpie Mafia looks poised to swoop.

It was a flogging and a close one in the Division II semi finals as Magpie Mafia murdered the Crows and harryshawks snuck over the line by 22 points to eliminate Pigs Arsenal from the premiership race. It’s been a great come back by wycbloods jnr who looked like missing the finals at one stage. Now we are just wild about harry as he is now just one game away from joining his father and uncle in Division I. Magpie Mafia are a side that has been in Division I before and it showed as they put the Crows to the sword. The Crows have had a solid season but were a flop in August. This weeks Prelims feature some very strong sides indeed as you’d expect from this competitive league. GETOUTOFTHEWAY has been very good all season long and he appears to have the scoring power to stop harryshawks’ run. In the other Prelim I expect Magpie Mafia to join GETOUT in Division I next year as I expect the Magpie to fly high over The Dukes this week.

Preliminary Finals

The Mafia may have qualified but the big statement of the Prelims was the massive win by GETOUT as they disposed of the youngster harryshawks easily in their prelim. Magpie Mafia put in a solid stint was challenged by the Dukes but Roscoe got the job done comfortably to advance. Good news for all of these teams is that we have to put in an extra two teams to turn Prelim and Division I into 18 teams again so this means that all over the Preliminary Finalists are promoted to Division I next season. Seeing as I’ve been calling GETOUTOFMYWAY GETOUTOFTHEWAY all year I’m tipping no one in this comp reads these things so there are going to be a couple confused coaches when the promotions come out next February. As for this week’s Grand Final it’s hard to go past GETOUT who are rising in the top forty rankings and posting some solid scores at the pointy end of the comp. I’m tipping GETOUTOFMYWAY will say just that to the Mafia and on and record a Division II premiership.
