Congratulations to this week's winners Hodges_Heroes and Bubbles Blunderers who have now been promoted to Hogg Division III next season. Hodgey had a comfortable win over Big Al who didn't shine in the last few weeks of the season and went out in straight sets after looking a genuine premiership contender for much of the year. In the other Semi 7th ranked Blunderers have proven themselves to be anything but by climbing out of Division IV and into next week's preliminary final. After round 13 the Blunderers weren't even in the top eight and now they have been promoted. Well done Bubbles of Blue.

The Blunderers now face the white hot Ecky's Fevolas in their Prelim with the winner to earn a place in the Champions League next season. Hodgey was the last team not to lose to Ecky and he'll play off against Stazza who has been one of the leading teams all season long.

Hogg Division IV Finals Preview

1st Preliminary Final Stazza FC vs. Hodges_Heroes

Stazza dominated the early weeks of the season in Division IV but as the weeks have progressed he has appeared to be shown as mere mortal as other teams appear to have surpassed them. One of those teams that I speak of is Hodgey whose Heroes are scoring at such a rate that they appear to be the only genuine challenger to Ecky for the Division IV flag. Hodgey has been scoring very big in recent weeks and they made light work of the highly rated Big Al to earn this shot at Stazza. Stazza won’t go away quietly after his solid year but Hodges_Heroes look the better outfit and I reckon they’ll get the job done and challenge Ecky for the premiership next week.

2nd Preliminary Final Ecky’s Fevolas vs. Bubbles Blunderers

A confident Ecky will start a red hot favourite against a plucky Bubbles Blunderers who have been punching above their weight for several weeks. While this commendable effort has earned the Blunderers a promotion into Division III I don’t think they have the class to stop Ecky in his tracks. Ecky has a solid methodology in SuperCoach and he has shown that it works well with his side scoring a lot of points since the bye period in particular. Ecky’s Fevolas will be far too good and Blunders’ bubble is about to burst.

But me having J Selwood to deal with brings it back your way a little.

I really hate prelim-final weeks actually, you can have an outstanding team all year and hardly lose a game, but just one bad week with a few late withdrawals can make you miss the Grand Final.

The Division IV Preliminary Finals went pretty much according to script with Ecky having a reasonably comfortable win against a gallant Bubbles Blunderers and Hodgey edging out Stazza FC in a high quality contest. Ecky and Hodgey will both be invited into the Hogg Champions League next season after a fine debut year in the competition and will appreciate the higher standard on offer. It is a brutal league believe me (not that I'll be there next year!).

The last two times these sides met it was a draw so on paper this Grand Final looks like it might be the closest.

Well it was a plan as far as I wanted to have decent cover in the forward line as I knew Pavlich was a good chance to withdraw, but if I knew Martin was going to score that high, I would have never had him as an emergency! Well played though Bubbles - you gave me a bit of a scare when I checked the scores after the Sat night games.
