Initial squads

Postby nuggety goodness » Mon Aug 13, 2012 12:55 am

So I was looking through my trade history and my current side and I noticed I have a few players that have stuck for the whole season... All together I have got 15 players still that I selected from the start... Of which 11 are in my best 22...

Scotland, Goddard, deledio, lake and smedts
Ablett, Mitchell, Boyd and swallow (although I did trade GAJ out and back in again)
Cox and Stephenson
Dangerfield, martin, Hall and Tomlinson.

Does anyone have a much higher number than that or is that around the average mark?
I am not talking to you for 3 minutes because you punched me in the head and it hurt and that was not okay for you to do

DEF: Goddard, Enright, Morris and BEWS on the bench.
MID: Pendles, Gibbs
RUCK: Maric, Giles, Stephenson, Pyke (Yep, kept all)
FWD: Stevie J, Pav, Devon Smith and SMEDTS and FRANKLIN on the bench.

Obviously if I have another game when Franklin is fit, I have an issue:
Danger, Beams, Stevie J, Tex, Pav, Zorko, Devon (gunna be unlucky) one needs to miss.

I had some truly horrible selections in my initial squad a really poor effort.

No Deledio or Goddard. WTF was I thinking??
Yarran. Hoping that he'd go close to Scotland. Exactly one ton in a non league week and then gets hurt ACK.
Hargrave because I couldn't quite afford Lake.
Bringing in Josh Tynan instead of the Sam Shaw I had in there because Tynan got a gig in round 1 - Tynan hasn't played since and Shaw has had a handy first season ACK again.
Dale Thomas. Poofter. Never again.
Nathan Wilson. Saved me a few times but poor overall.
Heath Shaw. Got unlucky with Shaw but he is SC Cancer. Promises plenty but anything can happen with that loose cannon.
Paying overs for Dean Cox and then stupidly trading in Sandilands when I figured the new ruck rules would make him invincible and he'd be an awesome POD. Stupid move number 63!
Sam 'who are you. who who who' Kerridge. Bought into the pre-season hype and the golden MPP. Even that dud Couch would have been a better pick.

Only got my team right over the bye period and had burn so many trades to right those horrible clangers above. Nearly got my sorry arse relegated.

Originals from Round 1:

D:Deledio Goddard H Shaw(traded out then back in)

M:Watson, Thompson, Ablett (out then back in)

R:Redden, Stephenson (both bench)

F: Martin, Porplysia, Franklin, D Smith.

Fair to say, that is why I have no trades left, again.

Picking Malceski over Lake was not my most favourite move, also I bought into the Golby hype. Mumford also turned out to be a rubbish selection.

Looking back at the side now, it was an embarrassment, and is now even worse! I will have to make some more astute selections next season!

Originals:

Def - Scotland, Johnson, Hombsch
Mids - Ablett (Traded out then back in), Brad Ebert, Ward, Mitchell, Wingard (Bench)
Ruck - Stephenson
Forwards - Dangerfield, Porplyzia, Petrie, Dustin Martin, Devon Smith.

Wasted too many trades on my ruckman but was unlucky with Luenberger getting injured straight away. Very happy with how my midfield has held up, Had Judd in there but was able to get rid of him for Kennedy when he got injured and upgraded my GWS for Priddis. Very happy with my midfield and forwards holding together.

13
birchall, suckling, lake, deledio, bugg
ablett, mitchell, boyd
goldstein, redden
martin, lewis, wilson

Happy about the fact my backline has stayed solid all year as in recent years the backs have been my down fall.
Took a risk on Fyfe early on which didn't pay off, also Murphy going down hurt as well (thankfully i picked up priddis dirt cheap)
Followed the majority and had players like ellis, clarke and porplyzia only to be relatively let down by them (I have high standards)
But I was happy with my rookie choices (price range) of bugg, mcdonald, shiel, smith, magner, giles, kennedy, cameron and tomlinson.

Made my greatest trades late in the year.
Bit the bullet and traded out Franklin for Dangerfield (master-stroke as dangerfield is smashing it) and Kreuzer out for Maric (best mullet in the AFL)

Overall pretty happy with the way my year has panned out, hoping to avoid carnage come the next few weeks to enjoy some good results :)

11 from my initial squad of 30

..being in tough leagues forced me to sideways trade injured players to try and make the finals.

Lesson learnt, Next season I will be hanging onto the injured premiums far longer!

D: GODDARD, DELEDIO, H SHAW
M: ABLETT, WATSON, SELWOOD, A KENNEDY
R: STEPHENSON
F: PAVLICH, SIDEBOTTOM, MARTIN, FYFE, A HALL
Fyfe out and back in.

Best
Planning for the byes and organising a spreadsheet. Trading with both byes and long term goals in mind before the byes.
Avoiding injury prone players and mid priced bolters.
Waiting for premiums to bottom out.
Trading out Franklin after the GWS game. 1 week hammy - just didn't sound right.
No sideways trades.
Rookie selections - Zorko, Giles, Magner, Bugg, Horsely, S Shaw n others.

Worst
Broughton
Choosing Martin over Beams preseason on a coin flip. Hurting ever since.
Fyfe out for Dalsanto when could have afforded Pendlebury.

13 DT
DEF:Scotland, Lake, Delidio
MID: Ablett, Boyd, Pendlebury
R: Cox, Giles
FWD: Dangerfield, Pavlich, Chapman, Smedts, Hall

I did trade out and bring back in Goodes & Swan.

12 SC
DEF: Delidio, Lake, Ellis, M.Clarke
MID: Ablett, Boyd, Swan.
R: Giles
FWD: Pavlich, Cloke, Franklin, Hall.

DT Brainfarts.
Got rid of Golby for Hargraves too early.
Got rid of Dempsey for Geary.
Got rid of Swan for Stanton.
Got rid of Kreuzer for Martin.
Getting in Burgoyne after 1 good week in a row.

All turned to shit or got injured immediately after getting them.

SC Brainfarts.
Chapman out for Tippett.
Judd out for Murphy, Murphy dropped 160K & I dropped him after 3 weeks because of injury.
Kreuzer out for Sandi, had Sandi for 4 weeks, dropped 140K & got injured.
Leuenberger out for McIntosh who got injured pretty much straight away.

Winning moves.
Magner for Horsley, +141K.
Horsley for Gibson, +208K.
McDonald for Zorko +116K.
Paine for Elliott +18K.

Smedts for Zorko in a pretty much straight swap.

My Supercoach trades sucked bigtime, injury riddled and no patience.
