Best and worst trade decisions

Postby nuggety goodness » Fri Aug 03, 2012 9:29 am

Coming to the end of trades and I thought it would be a good place to brag and/or vent about trade decisions you've made

My best trade was Ablett out for Junior McDonald then about 6 weeks later I did the opposite trade to get Ablett back in for a handy profit

My worst trade was to bring in Stanton.... Against all wise judgement and just because he had posted some impressive scores early... I've lost a lot of money but luckily it hasn't cost me games...
I am not talking to you for 3 minutes because you punched me in the head and it hurt and that was not okay for you to do

DT:
Bringing in Stanton, Burgoyne, Geary and most recently Stefan Martin following 3 tons in a row.

SC:
Bringing in Tippett for Chapman after REB told me I was crazy for contemplating it.
I've had a horror run with ruckmen.
Started with Lueunberger, traded him after his injury for McInotsh who I got 2 weeks out of and then upgraded Kreuzer for Sandilands who I got 2 weeks out of.

I got caught by the early Stanton hype. Never again.

Other than that I had a pretty good year. I'm very happy with my strategy of jumping on downgrade rookies when they were available rather than sitting on cash cows and being caught out.

Slow starters like Rioli & Petrie are what cost me this year, they are flying now but it's all too late (for Premier League anyway). Hanley & Rockliff's inconsistency has cost me also, although they have also won me games on occasion with big scores.

Good decisions :D
Getting rid of Martin early saved score and $ degradation.
When Fyfe went down selecting Sidebottom has worked well.
Getting rid of Kreuzer early saved a lot of pain and his replacement Josh Kennedy has been good
Getting Beams in before he took off was good.
Getting rid of Giles before he started to slide was good and his replacement Roughy has been fantastic. 8)
Waiting with Scotland has saved a trade.

Bad decisions :(
Should have had more patience with Dickson.
Getting Scooter Selwood for $557,000 has not been successful.
Crozier’s glandular fever and Sexton’s hip have not been good.
Trading Waters for a one week injury smarts. :?

As usual I was pretty under-prepared, so the only strategy I ran with was to not pick injury prone blokes that have burnt me in previous seasons, so no to Higgins, Waters and Chapman .. Has hurt a little as the opposition has beat up on me with them at times, but overall it's been a reasonable policy.

Heath Shaw was on that list too, but about 2-3 weeks ago I caved and brought him in because my backline really needed someone who could bring in a decent score.

I was keen on Sam Shaw in the pre-season and had him in my starting side. When round 1 began I noted that Josh Tynan had got a gig in the first round for the Dees. I swapped out Shaw for Tynan ACK. Tynan then got hurt and hasn't played since although he's named this week.

Bringing in Judd one week before he copped four weeks was a beauty as well but I had no way of knowing he'd have another famous Judd brain fart.

You got me back though on my Giles to Kruezer trade. That hasn't helped me much in recent weeks as the TEDS have gone off the rails.

Downside:
Golby in for Marty Clarke four weeks ago was shocking. Golby hasn't played since and Clarke's 40's might help me at this end.
Lenny Hayes looked good early, but failed later on and I had to get rid of him.
Holding onto Patton all year, should have traded him in later, had to burn trades early just to keep him on the bench, then he spudded it up.
Nathan Wilson in the first seven or eight weeks I had him. Spud extrodinaire.
Getting on Rockliff too late. Now he's scoring ordinary and I am stuck with 476K on the bench.

Upside.
Maric and Giles all year. In fact, not trading my rucks at all this year. When Giles went crap, I bought Pyke onto the field.
Corey Enright.
Coniglio. Although I had to trade him in the end.
Devon Smith. Solid all year.
Getting on Zorko the week before his price jump.
Finishing with a midfield of Ablett, Kennedy, Pendles, Gibbs, McLean and last place Rockliff/Sherman/Couch.
