However with careful use of six trades during the bye rounds I reckon I can win two of the rounds but get absolutely smashed (with nine donuts!) in the other.
If you dont trade at all you could still win two of those games. Its such a waste of trades.
Yep I think you're right PP - doesn't make sense using six trades to try to win two games, particularly as I am 6-1 now and hope to be 7-1 after this week. 8)

Have had another look at my team and I reckon I'll be close to having a full team on the park in one of the bye rounds but might have to kiss the other two goodbye. :(

I reckon there will be quite a few players rested or out with the general during the bye period.
A good opportunity for players to have 2 weeks off and only miss 1 game.
For every one I miss I am closer to a hole in one.

A week off is a week off, I don't think players will be missing two games in a row. Could lose form and come back rusty. A big risk.

Week 3 I will score 400

Expecting 2 donuts this week, happy with that. Too scared to look beyond that though. With a 6-2 start I'll take 1 from 3 out of the bye rounds

These bye rounds are cooked. If I win one of the three games I will be happy.

I actually had a look at this last night.
I will cop two donuts this week in SC, none in DT.

Next week might suck a little bit though.

At least when you cop a couple of zeros during the bye rounds your opponent will be doing the same thing. I hope....

I was looking ok this week til Scott Heathland & Pendle's decided to Barry me up. I'm not going to burn up though, I had a plan a couple of weeks back and I'm going to stick with it.

Well based on the lack of posts on this site this week it appears the bye structure rules have put even the most ardent Fantasy Footy punters offside with donut town ruining otherwise well laid plans. I hope this doesn’t lead to some of our coaches giving up half way through the season. I must admit my strategy of tanking for round 1 and getting through the rest with only 1 trade injury/suspension pending and suffering no more donuts leaves me with little interest this week and I will take advantage and head off bush till Tuesday.

Walesy from TS has suggested that the structure needs to change and has suggested removing a third of the positions on the field as we have lost a third of the players a 5-4-1-5 structure over the byes looks good to me.

Fair call, it is all luck, especially if you are in more than one league. You can analyse your opponents and predict their maximum trades to try and cover them but it can be all in vain.
You could have an even spread of players missing and post 3 competitive scores and still lose all 3, I don't think there's any real correct strategy, just a case of sitting back and hoping.

I'm not gonna turn my side upside down using 9 trades for just 3 weeks. I will continue to upgrade my team to have it peaking for finals as this is what its about, I may tweak my side over the next few weeks, but not gonna lose any sleep over it. Gott think long term. :D

Clearly what needed to happen was that league matches should have started in Round 1 and not Round 3. Then there is only one 'bye' week and and less disruption to the game. Real Captain Obvious stuff that should have been sorted by SC and DT and a chance for a genuine competitive edge was missed by the service providers.

Hopefully next year they work this out.

The AFL says there will likely be two bye rounds next year

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/138097/default.aspx

OPENING the 2013 premiership season at Etihad Stadium is an option that may grant the AFLPA's wish for two byes throughout the year, AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou said.

The players' association wants two breaks in the season, which will require the duration of the home-and-away fixture to extend.

The MCG is unavailable the week before the season usually begins in late March because of state cricket finals.

Demetriou said the League supported the push, and options such as playing the first game of the season at Etihad Stadium and utilising stadiums such as Skoda Stadium in Sydney and Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast, could make it a reality.

"Absolutely we support it. There's a strong likelihood that it will [come in] for next year because of the way the fixture is set up," Demetriou told SEN on Friday morning.

I've got a better than 50/50 chance in 3 of my 4 leagues, phew. Luckily the one that I'm going to be doing it toughest I'm sitting 2nd in a the loss is someone who's a fair way off the pace.
Round 13 looms as very daunting though, plenty of guns amongst Carlton, Richmond, Hawthorn, Gold Coast, Saints and Port.
