I've got two.
Atmosphere by Joy Division (just to make everyone feel more miserable than they already are) and There is a Light that Never Goes Out by the Smiths (to lighten things up a notch).

What about that abomination from Green Day. I reckon I have heard that at every funeral I have been to in the last 5 years.

I would have The Ship Song. Or Into my Arms (incidentally sung by Mr Cave at Michael Hutchence's funeral).

The song you're thinking of Heater is These Days.

It first came to real notice in a fairly emotional scene in Two Hands - Heath Ledger's break out flick. It's anthem status further developed when it was sung in honour of the girl who died in the Limp Bizkitmoshpit at the BDO at all following BDO's that summer.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

'Angel' - Sarah McLachlan. THE funeral song.
'Yellow' - Coldplay
'Never Gonna Leave Your Side' - Daniel Bedingfield
'Everybody Here Wants You' - Jeff Buckley
'Chiquitita' - Abba
Don't laugh at the last one. Listen to the lyrics.
These were played at my workmates funeral back in April.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

'Alive' by Pearl Jam.

So long as it's timed so just as I'm being lowered into the ground, the lyrics "Ooooh I'm still alive" blast out.
