i was at the clipsal500 on firday on a free ticket and decided to stay for the concert. 3 good aussie bands on show and so i was expecting a good night.
spiderbait were awesome with old man sam and calypso
then came you am i who i must admit i havent heard alot of there stuff but had an open mind. well they were dirty stinking crapola of an excuse for a band. they played with no gusto and never treid to get the crowd involved. they looked like they played only to get their money and they definatly would not have won any fans with that effort. eveyone was standing around waiting for them to end so eskimo joe could start and provide some entertainment. then as if there cruddy music and performance wasnt bad enough that tim rogers wankstain decided to tell the crowd they were shit before there last song. well screw you tim rogers you weak as crap excuse for a dole bludger. lucky i didnt pay for my ticket cos after a good day at the track i would've been effed off if i paid to get told i was a bad audience member.
good thing eskimo joe made up for it.
pity ford didn't win anything that mattered either.

As I remember saying on the BDO thread, You Am I were a spent force a long time ago. Mind you I wouldn't place much stock in any band that plays at a silly bloody car race.

Agree. You Am I are the best band I've seen perform live.
PS. Tim Rogers was probably right....

You cant say too much about You Am I as a live act just going on a festival type show at an event where music is just a side attraction. YAI obviously had some bad technical issues. At the start Andy Kent had a fair amount of trouble with his bass amp, and later Tim Rogers had trouble with his amp. He didn't do the last song without his guitar for no reason.
Ive seen YAI four times in the last 8 months. They are the best live band in Australia, and for me to place them above the Living End is saying something.
If you were there to see Eskimo No, then you were never going to like YAI no matter how good they were. If you think Black Fingernails Red Wine is a good song, you were never going to like YAI. Spiderbait were damn good though.
The people who think YAI are past it, go listen to their last CD.

Thats one thing i dont get about You am i. They are one of the best non commercial bands in oz yet they whore themselves out to do any gig that comes theyre way. I think they really are sellin out! Which is a shame, coz i am a fan.

Well what to say about Friday night.
First of all let me say You Am I are without doubt one of the best live acts going around and is no where near past their best as seen with their latest release. I would have seen them more than 20 times over the years and would agree that Friday was probably their worst performance due mainly to technical difficulties and Tim's us against them attitude. The life of a rock star has no doubt taken its toll over the years,
The gig didn't not go down well with the crowd, unfortunately they were probably not the right band to be playing at such an event. They lack the commercial appeal and radio friendly songs that such a crowd were after.
Listening to idiots chant for "Black Betty' during Spiderbait's set, really said it all about the type of crowd. Show some respect to a good Australian band and not chant for a cover song the whole way through. Eskimo Joe followed up with one of their famous bland performances, although I must say they have got better in recent years.
I think what it comes down to is perhaps if You Am I don't want to do what is required at a corporate event such as a Clipsal then perhaps don't play it and stick to the more music orientated festivals and their own gigs. It was a shame as people getting into music could learn a lot from You Am I.
Everyone is able to have one bad gig every 10 years.

Actually agree with you Fonz - first time for everything I know.
YAI were appauling, technical problems aside, they were terrible. I'm not a fan anyway, but they were BAD. A mate who's a massive fan (they're has fav band) was very disappointed, esp with the lead singers comments at the end. What did they expect? The crowd weren't all there to see him, so of course some people were going to be tools and give them grief!
I also went to the Thursday concert and Thirsty Merc were AMAZING. Awesome performance. Evermore were good too as were End of Fashion. Thursday was easily the best concert the Clipsal has had since its begining. The Evermore keyboard player must take some serious acid I rekon - he's all over the place with that keyboard!

I saw You Am I at the Le Mans race on NYE a few years back and they were great at that show.
Enjoyed them more than I enjoyed Spiderbait that night, and I'm a massive fan of the Bait.

I saw you am i at the falls festival this year, and have seen them before that. They would have to be the most overrated band i have ever seen. I would prefer to do a large poo in my own mouth after a night on the piss, than go to another concert by them.

Only if cash is your main motivation...
Most bands with any credibility would surely rather make a bit less to play to its own core audience than sell-out by playing the lucrative festival circuit (which YAI does relentlessly) in front of pissed-up bogans (PUBS) where the music is only incidental to the main event.

no taste at all. you am i have nothing on spiderbait.
the only thing tim rogers could ever be right about was if he took a good hard look at himself and realised he's a poor excuse for a human.
ando sums up you (are gay and so) am i:
I bet u were there chanting for Black Betty werent u and Black fingernails from Eskimos!
U wouldnt know shite about Spiderbaits music except the one single that u hear on SAFM would ya?
True music fans and we know who we are know that You am I are one of the best Australian bands ever and the only thing they did wrong was play a gig with a bunch of redneck wankers with Ford or Holden Shirts on. Spiderbait is a great band but i can name u 20 of their songs that crap all over black Betty. Can u name one other song?

Well this quote is just a pathetic use of the english language. I was embarrassed for your lack of maturity reading this.

"Sunshine on the window, makes me happy"

I like Buy Me a Pony because it depicts exactly what the music industry is like

I like Ol Man Sam, funny, catchy and made me look into Johnny Cash's music.
