Top 10 Most Influential Songs All Time

Thought this one may set the cat among the pigeons - it is NOT necessarily the ten BEST songs of all time, but the songs that have had the most influence on modern music, its trends and lifestyles.
In no particular order:
- Dancing In The Street; Martha and the Vandellas - set the tone for female groups to break the ceiling, as well as being a major soul influence
- Its Too Late: Carole King - similar reasons, but for female solo singers; also a huge song on AM radio in the 70's, a major force in breaking so many acts
- Hotel California: The Eagles - could have named a few of their songs, but this song really laid the groundwork for West Coast US rock of the 70's.
- Smells Like Teen Spirit: Nirvana - need you say more? While there were many grunge bands, this song was one of the major ones that kicked off the genre
- Heartbreak Hotel: Elvis Presley - the first major performance by a rock musician on US TV, while giving a nod to "Rock Around The Clock" also, this paved the way for TV playing a role in music
- The Message; Grandfather Flash and The Furious 5 - the forerunner of the rap movement
- Love Me Do: The Beatles - the first hit for a band that would dominate music, even today.
- Horror Movie: Skyhooks - Did for Australian TV and music, what Elvis did some 17 years prior. A massive boost for Countdown and colour TV in Australia
- Daydream Believer: The Monkees - sounds a strange choice but don't forget - these guys were the original American Idols - created bands for TV and the bubblegum era
- God Save The Queen - Sex Pistols; while some may say The Clash played a bigger role in the punk era, this was the most well known of the earlier songs, and really helped break the barrier in the UK.
