Influential alterna-metal iconoclasts Faith No More are set to release their seventh album — their first in 18 years — in April of 2015, bassist Bill Gould tells Rolling Stone. The record will be a totally independent product — produced by Gould, recorded in their Oakland rehearsal space and released on their own imprint, Reclamation Records (which will be distributed by frontman Mike Patton's long-running label, Ipecac Recordings).

I found out at 5am this morning, and I couldn't get back to sleep.

This is undoubtedly the best thing that's happened this year.

I have to admit FC I'm a little apprehensive. How many very good albums have bands done after they've reunited?

FC, I remember getting a bootleg copy of this show at the time from one of the Sydney shows on that '97 tour I saw them and was blown away by Patton's vocals on their cover of This Guy's In Love With You, even now more than 15 years later it still hits me.

My introduction to this song was on the second CD of the Who Cares a Lot? greatest hits album, and I was amazed at how much soul he put into that song. He (and the rest of the band, of course) absolutely nailed it.

Faith No More was the first band I listened to who used keyboards as more than background noise too.

I could talk about this band forever...

That's right I forgot this song (the same recording too I think) is on the second disc of Who Cares A Lot. I've got three of the FNM Best Of albums :lol:

That's right I forgot this song (the same recording too I think) is on the second disc of Who Cares A Lot. I've got three of the FNM Best Of albums

I agree about the keyboards and until you mentioned it I had never thought of that before.

Until I heard Roddy's work, I always thought of keyboards and synths as superfluous. Roddy showed me that you could not only use them for atmosphere, but almost like a second guitar.

Although King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime isn't my favourite FNM album (it's my 2nd or 3rd, depending on my mood), the guitar work was incendiary... INCENDIARY!

Sounds like some interesting material on those re-releases, Gozu.

'King For A Day' is a great album, but 'Album of the Year' didn't really grab me I must admit. A track which doesn't get commented on much is 'Take This Bottle'. It's one of my favorite songs from that album, Patton sings it with a lot of retrained feeling, like you're hearing the struggle of someone whose had a battle with the booze.

Now, permission to indulge a bit, having read some of the earlier posts:

I got hooked on FNM when I heard 'Falling to Pieces' on Triple J back in 1990, but FWIW my favourite FNM album is 'Angel Dust'. IMHO it's their high-water mark, and don't think they ever got close to capturing its feel again - there's a lot to be said for recording an album whilst there is tension within the group (a la Alice in Chains' 'Dirt'). It sounds angry, it rocks hard, can be a bit sensitive (great instrumental of the 'Midnight Cowboy' theme), it's got a sense of humour ('Be Aggressive'), and takes the piss out of American life ('RV', 'Everything's Ruined'). Most of all, it sounds like a f**ked up mix of a whole bunch of styles, but it manages to come out sounding polished, considered, and cohesive.

And my fave gig ever was FNM at Thebby, May 1993 on the 'Angel Dust' tour. You could feel the aggression and tension, it was absolutely palpable. Plus their encore included a swing version of the Dead Kennedy's "Let's Lynch the Landlord'!

That would've been cool seeing them on that Angel Dust tour, a mate of mine saw them at a tiny venue on one of their The Real Thing tours I can't remember if it was Le Rox or Lennies. I blew a chance to see them on their KFAD tour at the Ent Centre a mate asked me if I wanted to go but I was only just starting to get back into FNM again so didn't but regret it to this day. I saw them in '97 on their AOTY tour but KFAD-era is my favourite era of the band when they were at their most 'We don't give a fk" state.

I don't like the studio version of Midlife Crisis but love it live especially KFAD-era like this in Chile when the crowd are all spitting on Patton, supposedly a sign of appreciation over there.

This is a nice version of Take This Bottle from their Download show in '09, it was their second show back after reuniting.
