Get a USB DAC. The difference is chalk and cheese.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is it?

Digital to Analogue converter. A USB DAC allows you to bypass the soundcard DAC (which is very average) in your pc, creating audio the way it is supposed to be heard. Not compressed rubbish. Even makes YouTube videos sound great.

Heard they retail for $385 in Aust. About the same from the UK. I got one from Singapore for $300.

Couple of other options.

http://www.audioquest.com/usb_digital_analog_converter/dragonfly-dac - Cheaper and easier to obtain. Amazon etc.

http://highresolutiontechnologies.com/microstreamer

The difference is extremely noticeable. Can pick out individual instruments in Devin's wall of sound.
