These type of lists always start much debate .... as its got nothing to do with the guitarists talent as such it is measured by the success of the band that they are a part of

im not 30 yet and have been going to as many gigs as i can get to since i was 15 and anyone that is familiar with the Australian rock scene wont disagree that Drew Goddard of Karnivool is up there with the best of this era

Similar story to that of Dave Grohl , formerly a drummer. Played the drums in Karnivools debut Album themata. And is the brain behind there material One very VERY talented individual

Orianthi (Orianthi)

She's there #45 mick :)

You really have a few classes here....1. Technical ability ie. Tommy Emmanuel (Tommy Emmanuel)

2. Entertainment value ie. Angus Young (AC/DC)

3. Songwriting abitlty ie. Darren Middleton (Powederfinger)...even I dont rate Powderfinger much and Ian Moss (cold Chisel)

4. Pioneers in how they play ie. Deniz Tek (RadioBirdman) and Rowland S Howard (Boys Next Door, Birthday Party)

Angus is an OK guitar player....probably known the most worldwide but he definately is not the best!! Mostly plays just blues scales and copies Chuck Berry!! He just has THAT sound though that is so reconizable :)

Good point. I was thinking that Rowland S Howard had a documentary done about him last year which talked about (amongst other things) his influence on so many artists, not just here but overseas as well. And the way his style influenced SO many bands. Hard to imagine that would apply to many in that top 10 list.

Also today I was at a mate's record shop and he was playing some of "The Aints" and I reminded what a great guitarist Kent Steedman is. Bit of an oversight there. He was in Deniz Tek's band when Tek toured in 1994 - played Heaven in 94 - What a treat that was to see those two on the same stage together.

Bit of a silly poll in the first place IMO. What defines 'great'?

A few non-Australian born players make Australia's Greatest guitarist list. Angus Young, Kevin Borich, Dutch Tilders, Diesel, Spencer P Jones ...
Most have lived in Aussie for a majority of their life but my Kiwi mate still wants to claim Kevin Borich and Spencer P Jones !!

Manning's work in Chain was really good. Bit of a forgotten name these days unfortunately.

Angus Young is a great guitarist, brilliant maybe, but no genius.
Tommy Emmanuel is by far the best Australia has seen, daylight to the rest.

To have Chris Cheney at No. 4 is a complete joke.
