ARIA winning SA record retailer to close (Krypton)

The owners of Glenelg based record store Krypton Discs announced via Facebook this week that the 2011 ARIA awarded Retailer of the Year is set to close at the end of April.

Adelaide record store numbers have obviously dwindled in recent years as the economic effects of the decline in physical sales becomes more evident. Already the city has lost iconic chains Big Star and The Muses, while Mr V Music in the CBD has also closed. While some of slack has been picked up by specialised stores Clarity Records, Wax Museum and Title, the closure of Krypton represents the demise of the last sizeable independent music store in Adelaide.

Depressing sign of the times - I liked that place for the occasional secondhand find (mostly they were overpriced) and cheap T Shirts.

Make sure you support Record Store Day folks...while we still have a couple left!

I've come across a couple of second-hand gems at Mr V Music at Semaphore for around $5-$10.

Yep ... Sign of the times indeed !!

CDs won't be around by the end if 2013 is what I'm hearing.

They were pretty expensive down there compared to jb's.

I wont buy CDs anymore but I do buy vinyl so MrV @ Semaphore knows me well ;)
