Greatest Australian Songs Of All Time

Another poster and I have discussed this one for a while, so thought it was time to put it out there finally, and start a poll on the topic.

Firstly - yes, I know there are plenty that aren't listed, but there are only so many songs that can be listed. I've tried to cover as wide a genre as possible with it, and as wide an era with the number of choices we can have in a poll. For example, Pub With No Beer probably should be listed, but have listed a couple of other songs that are not pop/rock at all. There is probably plenty of scope to cover those that were missed out in a "Next 20 Best Songs" poll at a future time.

Secondly - some bands have been left out. After a lot of thought, left Crowded House in, although many term them as being New Zealand, but the majority of the band, in their heyday, were Australian. Have left The Seekers out by intention, as most of their hits weren't written by the band.

The list is partially based on the Australasian Performing Rights Association Top 30 of all time released some years back, and partially on my own lists, but by all means, list your own choices that could be in there for discussion. There is next to no way that everyone's thoughts will be covered, its only a fun discussion.

From that list though, my vote goes to The Triffids.

No vote from me, two of Australia's best artists and bands aren't represented in Johnny O'Keefe and The Angels!

Under The Milky Way - The Church

....is my favorite all time song so that would have been my vote. :D

Very hard to debate this as it is such a personal taste thing.

DC - Died Pretty is also another criminally underated song too!!!

You can cross out Throw your arms around me....and anything by Powderfinger for me. :vom:

As I said, the poll only allows for 20 options. I could have named 50 and plenty of good ones would be missed out. Also tried to avoid having solely from 80's back as selections.

Yeah but not having the king of Australian rock and roll is unforgivable.
It'd be like a US list without Elvis, a Sweden list without ABBA or a UK list without the Beatles!
Or a Greek list without Nana Mouskouri!

The great Frank Ifield was born in England , 74 years old today, later shifted to Australia
Frank sang one of the greatest Australian songs of all time called I Remember You in the early 1960s
That high yodelling voice is distinctive
One of my favorite singers
Ive bought 3 of his albums, Portrait in Song, Frank Ifields 18 Greatest Hits, Frank Ifields Greatest hits
A measure of the great mans greatness is that I bought all three albums from Thrift Shops at a buck each !
