Long story mate, but Doc and Buzz never left the Angels. Rick, John and Chris decided to go separate and use the "Angels" name even though it was agreed by all parties in the past not to do this, and they've made Gleeson the lead singer.
Doc and Buzz wanted quality gigs for the Angels where Rick, John and Chris wanted to play any old pub on any old night and that's where the issue lay.
Doc's gone solo but makes it clear as his band is called something like Doc Neeson Solo "The Voice of the Angels" where the Brewsters and Chris and Gleeson are doing a heap of gigs and are promoting those gigs as "The Angels" dispite not having Doc and Buzz.
Some very annoyed people bought tickets to some gigs only to feel duped when they found out Doc wasn't the leader singer of the "Angels" they'd bought tickets too.
I've heard the Bresters do Angels songs without Doc before and they were crap.
Despite being a huge fan of the Angels I wouldn't go see them but I will see Doc Neeson when he comes out with his band as at least it will still sound like the Angels with him up front.
Doc just completed a couple of shows in Sydney and Melbourne with Brett Michaels and Motely Crue, I'm hoping he'll come back to SA later this year.
If you want to keep up with the full story follow the official Angels page on facebook, lot of stuff on there and Buzz puts a lot of things to rest.
One thing that came out was how deceptive that doco of a couple of years ago was in some respects.

Glad I went to the Symphany of Angels gig as it looks like that will be the last chance we ever had of seeing all the original Angels together.

The Angels are playing the "heritage" (washed-up-hasbeen) circuit in outer suburban Melbourne pubs next month.

Doc's not doing too well either.

Its not the Angels, its the Brewster Brothers, Chris Bailey, Dave Gleeson and some unknown drummer.
Doc Neeson, the Brewsters, Bailey and Buzz all agreed they would only perform under the Angels name together but 3 of those that agreed to that have relented on that.
A lot of angry people have gone to "Angels" gigs only to find its not the Angels and sounds more like the Screaming Jets.
If Doc ain't singing, it ain't the Angels!
Doc and Buzz wanted a higher quality of gigs for the band where the Brewsters and Bailey were just happy to play in any old sh!t heap.
It's gotten quite nasty, but the worst part of it is it looks like the true Angels will never be back together and I saw their last gig in Adelaide with a symphony orchestra which was sensational and I'll remember to the day I die.

How is Doc looking these days Wedgie? The last time I saw him he looked like death warmed up.

Dunno, the pic in the Sunday Herald wasn't great but IMHO he was at his worst in the early 2000s not long after his car accident and steadily improved.
Worst I saw him live was around 2003 when he first started doing gigs again, and he looked gradually better through to when I last saw him early last year.
Might hvae taken a turn for the worse since then, not sure.
He's got a loyal fans out there though and we're all right behind him.
He really is a lovely bloke who has done a hell of a lot of stuff for charities, I'm hoping things turn around a bit for him.
Its my favourite band of all time, so its all a bit disheartening.
I won't be going to the Dave Gleeson gig but when Doc Neeson comes out with his band I'll be there with bells on.

Agree with Wedgie's statement.

No Doc = No Angels.
