Songs that are close to perfect

Not necessarily songs you absolutely love, but songs that are either very well written, well constructed musically, are well crafted or stand the test of time very well after much time has passed.

Have always thought that, as an example of a song that is nearly perfect for song construction, style, build, crescendo and catchiness, it's really difficult to go past David Bowie's "China Girl". Hits all of the targets for the way it starts, builds, finishes, and never seems to age.

For a slower one, Don Henley's "End Of The Innocence", from the opening piano of Bruce Hornsby, through to the lyrical style, to its musical styling, really gets me everytime.

Her English is pretty bad; the only lyric that can be understood has something to do with Captain Kirk...

On the China Girl theme from the OP I have always felt Bowie's "Modern Love" is a very well constructed song, if not close to perfect.

I looked it up on YouTube - first time I have heard it and I agree it is a great song

Did I read right that the lead singer is the one and same Feargul Sharkey who had a couple of hit singles in the mid 80s (A Good Heart and You Little Thief)?
