Good Ballads

Alright, so I've had my MP3 collection running (a little while shorter than the beers) and whilst I generally have tunes that are grunty or fast, the odd slow balladish one creeps in (the instigator of the thread in this case was ZZ Top's "Rough Boy")

So .. Which are the more favored "ballads" among SAFooty posters? (CK you are exempt because your collection is probably full of them :D )

I prefer higher browed stuff than that as a rule. Was only thinking that Friday night when it was late as I walked home and got down to the gate, when I was dreaming of the night, and would it turn out right. :D

On to the topic at hand - if I'm permitted to post, Supply Boy ;) -

- Us and Them: Pink Floyd
- Similar Features: Melissa Etheridge
- No Son Of Mine: Genesis
- From Now On: Supertramp
- Under The Bridge: Red Hot Chilli Peppers

To throw a bit out there - one ballad that is constantly hailed as a classic, and I used to love once, but reckon nowadays is horribly overrated - "Patience" by Guns 'N' Roses.

You're just trying to show off now, no Little River Band, James Reyne, Sade or Burt Bacharach lol.

Reckon "Don't Cry" and "November Rain" were the better ballads for the gunners.

I find Sade the equivalent of a bad elevator music session. Blergh :? :)

I did forget "Reckless" so thanks for the heads up on James Reyne, though. I've been known to dabble in Little River Band here and there, so will think a bit more about some of their better ballads beyond "Reminiscing", "Seine City", "Always Call Your Name", "Cool Change"... :)

Also forget Hunters and Collectors. "Turn A Blind Eye" is just sublime.

Does "Love Bites" by Def Leppard count as a ballad?

Agree with CK- Patience horribly overrated.

A couple that have popped up in recent days:

"Without You" by Motley Crue

"Since I fell for you" Johnny Diesel and the Injectors
