Greatest Song of All Time

Postby CK » Wed Dec 24, 2008 8:23 am

Have been so many polls taken in magazines such as Rolling Stone, Melody Maker, Billboard etc, as well as radio stations etc over the years as to what fans think is the greatest song ever made, so have taken a selection of some of these winners for everyone to vote on as the greatest from this selection - but then what is your choice from those NOT on the list as the greatest song ever made? All songs on this list, at some stage, were voted the best of all time in a major medium.

Vote away - and don't forget to post your selection from those not on this list.

Good point - have added that one. Remember that one winning a few polls in the early 80's.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen would be one I'd have there, and also love Imagine - John Lennon.

During the year on a radio station over here in Melbourne a panel of music critics were talking about the three greatest songs of all time.
They came up with......

1. Hound Dog - Elvis Presley
2. Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones
3. Complete Control - The Clash

Hard to argue with number 3 ;)

Kiss me Im Sh*tfaced - The Dropkick Murphys ;)

'A Day in the Life' - the Beatles
Better than 'Stairway' and I'm a diehard Zeppelin fan

I went for Patsy and The Eagles just cos I like them.

What songs I like depends very much on what mood I'm in and of course it's common knowledge that I know bugger all about music.

A couple of others I happily listen to over and over and over again

Perfect Day by Lou Reed
Since You've Been Gone by Rainbow
Dream a Little Dream of Me by Mama Cass

But that's just my taste  ;)

JAS

Psyber, are you using Mick's Login again? ;)

I went Stairway from the list above, although it sounds like we could have voted twice so I would have opted for SLTS with the other.

Jabber mentioned Bohemian Rapsody ... I recall hearing once upon a time that it was the only ever song to go No.1 twice, without being remastered or remixed etc ... Fair effort considering it was around 20 years apart.

With the inclusion of Bohemiam Rhapsody and American Pie, I reckon you've nailed the potential list

Me:

Stairway (always 1st) & Hotel California (just, from about 4 others)

Great Thread CK
