Why did I buy....

Finally got around today to clearing out my vinyl (album) collection, a task I have been meaning to do for years. A fair amount in there, and good to get them out again and play a few that I have not yet converted to CD or MP3.

After sorting out a few duplicates, and finding some forgotten gems (a few early to mid 80's Adelaide bands, and a mint copy of the "Brewing" album from 1988 - a very hard one to find nowadays), I found a few that left me wondering - why on earth did I get them??

One, which must have been bought at a secondhand shop, is a fully autographed copy of Kids In The Kitchen 12' single of "Something That You Said", with the whole band scrawling on it (its personalised, so if anyone knows a mad fan of the band called Lina, it's theirs :D ). Apart from the signature aspect, cannot think why I spent anything on this.

What is sitting in your collection that always makes you think..."What WAS I thinking when I bought THIS??"

What do you mean? Pure gold! Who can forget the midget from the clip? Plus since that song was on Glee (apparently) you'll score extra rad points from the Kids!

Safety Dance?

It's a catchy little tune with a memorable riff. A classic 80s song IMO!

Britney's far worse than that surely? :)

Always remember as a kid in the late 70's that every house I went to at least had a record of the "Moogs"

Really?

Sorry, I had never heard of them. I must have just missed the Moog Orchestra train then.

I've lost count of how many times I've seen that Bucks Fizz albums at markets and garage sales over the years. It must have been close to "Hot August Night" for popularity at one point, judging by this.

I also uncovered an autographed Jason Donovan 7" single among it all, which I bought new somewhere. Egad.

When I first starting buying cassettes I had all of the NKOTB albums.
Also the Comedy Company album.

We had Howling for hits on double cassette! Some gems on that. Also had 'Choose 1985' and '1983 Thru the roof'.

Dont have too many other 'embarassing' purchases as such. I have a few such as Billy Joel/Simply Red/Fine Young Cannibals which may cause mirth amongst mates but I still listen to them occasionally.

I bought an album by Warzone called 'Fight for Justice' from Big Star which I returned and sold second hand 2 weeks later- the mix was just terrible, the vocals drowned out the music so much it sounded like the guitars were being played in another room.

The Britney/Jason purchases listed above are DEFINITELY 'what was I thinking' moments.

Zipzap, I've got a funny story with this album (and quite embarrassing too I might add).

I used to have the Bucks Fizz tape in my car, in the centre console, circa 1989/1990. My car got broken into around that time, rear quarter glass smashed and the 'burglars' took about 1.25 in coins and my Bucks Fizz tape.

Still is a laugh amongst my mates to this day that my treasured possession (the $1.25) was stolen. Na, kidding, we still laugh that someone went to the trouble of breaking in, and stealing the Fizz tape.

BTW, my parents have a stack of James Last albums at their place. I wonder why/how and when this was popular?

Gadj, I lived in Elizabeth Downs and most people would assume cars/houses got broken into all the time.
However, we only had one break in at our house and that was when Mrs DW's car targetted. Her little Nissan Pulsar had about the same amount of change in it and, wait for it...a copied tape of Madonna's Greatest Hits which was also stolen.
A taped copy????? Madonna??? What kind of thieves were these?
