This Tuesday October 19 is the 23rd anniversary of the release of "Kick", while last Thursday October 14 was the 25th anniversary of "Listen Like Thieves". Quite incredible to think how fast time has passed since the release of two albums that were so pivotal to my music tastes. Even today, there is still something about the opening bars to "Kiss The Dirt", "Listen Like Thieves", "New Sensation", "Guns In The Sky" or "Devil Inside" that still get me turning up the radio each time.

Have many people here seen them live? One of my great musical regrets that I haven't - and has anyone seen the tribute act "INXSive"? They are starting a national tour at the Cavern Club on Nov 26 and thinking of going, but want to know whether they are close to the real thing or not.

INXS were a pivotal band from my youth and close to my favourite band through The Swing, Listen Like Thieves and Kick. Standout songs for me were Burn for You, What You Need, Listen Like Thieves, Kiss the Dirt, New Sensation & Never Tear us Apart. Never Tear us Apart in fact is the song that I now rate as my favourite. It always takes me back 20 years when they play it on Foxtel. A memorable video clip too.

The music may not rate up there for the musical experts on here but for me as a high school student at the time it made a big impression on me.

I felt they lost there way after Kick (or they lost me) leading up to Michael Hutchence's death and since then at times I have been embarrased for them as they struggled to find a new singer and a new following.

Saw INXS at the Old Lion as part of their back to the pubs tour. It was around the "Full moon...Dirty hearts" era. (1993??)
Hutchence was totally out of it.......very thin and not really with it at all on stage. It was sad to see.

To me, my favorite INXS album is Shabooh Shoobah from 1982. Amazing songs. Dont Change, One Thing, To Look at You....love the darkness of the keyboards on this one. Great Aussie Pub rock
2nd is The Swing and 3rd Listen Like Theives....that era from 1981 to 1985 was just fantastic.

KICK ...well personally I saw this as a bit of a sell out. It lost the Aussie Rock edge I once loved and sold their souls to the funk of the USA.
Great it did well for them over in the states but after this record it seemed to all go down hill with some average music.

Like I said. each to their own.....its just my opinion anyway.

Liked pretty much everything up until Kick, then it all got exceedingly safe and predictable for the US palate. Like so many meat & potatoes rock bands of the time, they failed to evolve in the early 90s as indie-rawk began to render bands like that kinda irrelevant. In fact as soon as Kirk Pengilly started sporting a goatee it all went downhill from there

Always rated Hutchence as a frontman and never could understand why he couldn't break free from the Farriss brothers after a time. He almost did it with Max Q, which as discussed elsewhere was an incredible project - still relatively commercial pop tunes but just weird enough to ensure it didn't sell. He went back to the INXS safety net soonafter sadly.

Shabooh Shoobah and The Swing definitely my favourites. I picked up INXSive on vinyl the other week - I forgot how much I liked some of their early stuff as they were finding their feet.

I saw INXS at Wayville of all places. Were very ordinary but it was a shocking place to have a concert (old showbags pavilion). Angels and Skyhooks a million times better live.

Tuesday November 2 will be the 17th anniversary of "Full Moon, Dirty Hearts", which is still a somewhat underrated album of theirs. More of a funk edge than some of their previous albums.

Wedgie - were INXS the only act there, or was that part of a music festival?

I think it was her birthday too.

INXS were known to me as a young boy (I'm 29) and knew of a few songs that I liked.

However it wasn't until Rockstar INXS before I realized how many of their songs I already knew & loved.
What you need, Never tear us apart & By my side up there with my favorites songs.

Just googled this concert, and it was in 1986. That'd be right as I just turned 13, and got the tickets as a Birthday present from Mum & Dad IIRC.

Max put on Max Masters- INXS for the anniversary of Kick, which I thought was nice of them. It was very imfortmative and made me really appreciate what they've done for the Australian music industry. INXS really were F**king massive! The shots of their concert at Wembley Stadium are simply amazing.

I am an INXS fan and shudder every time I hear of them performing with a new singer.
The Doors didn't try and go on without Morrison and Nirvana didn't try without Cobain.
It just doesn't work.
I reckon the Farris Brothers and Pengilly must feel like they don't have any other choice but to stick with this band that they've known all through their lives...

Anyway, INXS were definitely part of my childhood.
Their early singles stand out to me from other Australian groups in the charts at the time.
Kick was my first cassette.
I had a Suicide Blonde t-shirt and really did love the X album (I wish I still had it, along with my Hunters River Runs Dry tee).

Is that Ian Bell? He was at Rip It Up when I worked there from around 1994 to 1996. Indeed a great bloke. His one fault was misplacing a signed Supertramp LP I had on lay-by from him when he moved shops from Gawler Place to Rundle Street. Never found it.

Ummm... you've not heard Ian Astbury fronting the Doors (forced by Densmore to change name to Doors of the 21st Century but pretty much The Doors nonetheless)?

I had not.

I know Manzerak toured a lot, and performed Doors songs, but wasn't sure if they billed themselves as the Doors.
